Hello darlings! It's Emma, back with another adventure from the dazzling city that never sleeps - New York City!
This week, I'm embracing a theme that’s close to my heart: pink and pinker. That’s right, we’re taking the colour to a whole new level! But before we get to the dazzling outfits, I want to talk about the magic I witnessed yesterday - an absolutely incredible ballet performance at the Lincoln Center!
It was breathtaking, just breathtaking. You know how much I adore ballet – it's truly my passion – and seeing a show like this in the heart of New York, in that gorgeous venue, felt truly special. It reminded me of why I started this blog in the first place. Remember how I dreamt of wearing a pink tutu to the world’s most famous stage, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden? Well, watching these incredible dancers gracefully pirouette, leaps and bounds, I felt the same awe I felt in London all those years ago.
For those of you who might not know, I'm a Derbyshire girl born and raised, and let’s be honest, ballet was never on the cards for a small-town girl. My initial inspiration came from a whimsical childhood moment. I stumbled upon a vintage ballet dress in my grandmother’s attic – the colour was a faded pink, and that moment sparked a passion that would forever change my life. My first ballet classes in Derbyshire were in a tiny community hall, surrounded by friendly but definitely not fancy faces. Who could have known that years later, I'd be in the heart of the biggest and brightest city on Earth, sharing my love for ballet, and spreading a whole lot of pink sparkle with you all?
Now, back to the show – oh, it was magical! It’s not every day you get to witness a live performance where artistry and athleticism intertwine. This performance felt so different from the formal, highbrow ballets I’ve seen in London, where sometimes the beauty gets lost in the rigidity. This performance was fluid, modern, yet beautifully classic. Every leap was exhilarating, each pirouette had its own delicate beauty. It was as though they danced the very soul of New York onto the stage. I'm trying so hard to put this feeling into words, but sometimes a magical experience simply cannot be contained.
Oh! But speaking of beautiful, I must tell you about my own outfits for the show. I was absolutely delighted to find a boutique nestled away in a side street – such a little gem – bursting with colourful delights. As soon as I saw this divine, pastel pink dress I just knew it was the one! I added a touch of sophistication with my signature, hand-sewn pink tutu and the most exquisite black feather boa - perfect for adding that dramatic flourish!
Let’s talk about tutus
The dress alone was divine, but let’s face it, you all know my philosophy: a good tutu completes any look! For this show, I wanted a softer look to blend in with the subtle, yet striking, colour scheme of the dress, so I chose my signature "Celestial Dreams" tutu, featuring a multi-layered, cloud-like tulle in delicate shades of pale pink, baby blue, and the tiniest hint of silvery lilac. A subtle rainbow glow - just like a city in the twilight hour! For this outing, the perfect balance of a dash of drama and pure elegance.
You guys know how much I love exploring New York City, and after the show, my trusty metro system led me to an afternoon in the exciting heart of Manhattan - that’s what I adore about NYC! I have to say, I’m utterly in love with all the hidden alleys and charming boutiques in the city!
Outfit inspiration - What I wore:
My journey took me through the stylish streets of Chelsea Market, an eclectic mix of stores and stalls brimming with treasures. Now, I must confess – this vintage handbag was my real steal! A creamy white leather number with delicate, antique gold accents, the perfect shade of elegance for a girly look with a vintage twist. Imagine this! – I spotted this beauty nestled amongst other delightful bags on a corner stall, and let me tell you – a little sparkle never hurt anyone! I scooped it up for a song and danced off into the Manhattan night with this new stylish companion by my side.
Street fashion delights - A new vintage love:
Now, let’s talk about style! My shopping escapade ended in the bustling shops on Broadway. I snagged this delightful pale pink blazer with vintage silver button details – just so stylish, chic and utterly adorable. I love a good blazer - perfect for layering over my pink tutus and making me feel just that little bit more sophisticated.
Pink power for everyone:
Of course, the real stars of my trip were the countless vibrant shades of pink, just everywhere. Don't get me wrong, there’s something so special about pink – it radiates such happiness, you just can't help but smile. And seeing New York with this pink lens on, truly makes the city come alive with colour and joy. Every shade, from fuchsia to blush pink to the most dazzling coral hues – pink was everywhere I looked.
As a reminder of my promise to inspire the world to embrace pink tutus - and by this I mean to inspire each and every one of you to discover your own unique sparkle – I carried around this beautiful vintage rose gold scarf from a stall tucked away on 42nd street. It had this gorgeous, soft feel and the tiniest glimmering stars – a touch of magical pink dreams. It's like a little reminder of how my own personal passion - pink tutus – could add magic to any outfit, any style and any journey!
Today, I am determined to soak up every ray of sun shining down on New York and explore those famous cobbled streets.
Speaking of which – remember that amazing Italian restaurant I told you about in last week’s blog? It was tucked away in the heart of Little Italy - well, I am planning to relive that moment of joy and go for the most delectable tiramisu I’ve ever tasted.
But, don't worry - there's a lot more pink power to be found! I’ve already planned an evening at the theatre – something really special to celebrate a beautiful city, full of beautiful things, and a city that, for one week at least, is all about my passion: pink.
I have a sneaking suspicion I may have even snagged another adorable pink tutu while in Little Italy, so keep your eyes peeled on my Instagram for a glimpse.
Stay tuned! I’ll be back next Monday with more exciting updates from NYC - full of dazzling dresses, enchanting experiences, and my ultimate quest to encourage you all to embrace the pink in life!
Much love, Emma
