Hello, darlings! Welcome back to another week of Pink Tutu adventures! Today I’m bursting with excitement, ready to whisk you away on a whirlwind tour of New York City. This week’s escapades were nothing short of magical, a mix of twirling, shopping, and some of the most dazzling performances I've ever witnessed.
A Derbyshire Girl's Big Apple Dream ?
As you know, I’m a girl who dreams big, and there’s nothing I love more than dancing my way through the world. So, when the opportunity arose to bring my pink tutu to the bustling streets of New York City, my heart skipped a beat. This is my 11th trip to New York City since starting this blog. It never gets old, every visit is unique and feels fresh. There is such an amazing buzz in this city and the streets are always full of interesting sights and people!
It’s always a thrill to trade the rolling hills and charming villages of my Derbyshire home for the concrete jungle of New York. You wouldn't believe the amount of tutus I pack! I’ve got a rainbow selection to suit every occasion, and of course, my trusty, oh-so-sparkly, pink tulle number is always in tow!
Finding My New York Groove ?
After landing at JFK and taking a taxi to my favourite little pink hotel in the Upper East Side, the first thing I did was put on my pink tutu and twirl down Fifth Avenue. Honestly, just feeling the wind through the tulle was enough to fill me with pure joy. I spent the day wandering around Central Park, the sunlight reflecting beautifully off my tutu as I twirled under the iconic skyline. I couldn't help but wonder how many ballerinas before me had danced these same streets. It felt incredibly inspiring, just being in the presence of such iconic history and artistic energy. It just makes you want to move and dance, doesn’t it?
A Night of Broadway Bliss ?
Of course, a trip to New York City wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Broadway. On Wednesday, I went to see ‘Wicked’ which was beyond spectacular. I adore musicals, they always leave me feeling inspired, uplifted, and slightly dizzy from the beautiful movement and emotion that shines through each performance. The music was phenomenal and the dancing was incredible - seriously, if I hadn't been in a pink tutu I might have jumped up on stage with them!
Fashion Finds & Delicious Delights ?️
I must confess, no trip to New York is complete without a visit to the most fantastic designer shops, from Fifth Avenue to Soho and Bloomingdales, the city is a haven for stylish souls. I even found the most divine pair of fuchsia patent leather shoes with little sparkling bows. I just knew they’d be perfect for twirling. You can never have too many tutus or sparkly shoes, can you?
And let’s be honest, no blog post is complete without a little mention of food! The city truly spoils you with amazing eats. One of my favourite places is a quaint little French bistro called Le Petite Madeleine tucked away in a cobblestone alley in Greenwich Village. The escargot was exquisite, followed by a perfect croque monsieur. They even brought me a pink macaron with a little ballerina doll on it for dessert – I was practically levitating!
The Magic of Ballet Under the Big Apple Lights ?
As you all know, ballet is my passion. So, when I saw the announcement that the New York City Ballet would be performing ‘The Nutcracker’ in their new theatre on the Lower East Side, I knew I had to see it. This wasn't just any production, it was a stunning collaboration with a world-famous artist to create sets and costumes, it was mind blowing, and it's not to be missed if you're a ballet lover! The performance was so captivating; the delicate footwork, the breathtaking leaps, the incredible costumes, I found myself completely enthralled from start to finish.
As a seasoned New York City traveller, I find new places all the time! I managed to stumble upon a beautiful ballet class in a converted loft in Williamsburg, tucked away above a cool new coffee shop. The space was warm and inviting, perfect for practicing my pirouettes and pliés, and the instructors were amazing – real experts! I always find the most brilliant dance classes in New York. It’s an absolute ballet paradise, and you really can't beat a good, old fashioned ballet session.
Living Life in Pink Tutu Paradise ?
There's just something so liberating about being in New York City. It feels like anything is possible, and I am reminded every time I visit that dreams can indeed come true if you follow your heart. I’ve never felt more empowered to follow my passion for dancing, sharing my love for tutus, and spreading a little bit of magic wherever I go. It’s truly a beautiful life I live – travelling the world with a pink tutu on my back!
If there’s anything you love about New York, feel free to let me know in the comments.
