Hello my darling dears! ? Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in New York City, where, of course, I twirled my way through the streets in my beloved pink tutu! You know me, always on a mission to spread the joy of ballet and bring a touch of sparkle to every corner of the globe. ✨ This week's blog is all about my New York adventure, filled with fashion, fabulous ballet shows, and enough sparkle to rival a Times Square Christmas tree.
New York, New York, It's a Wonderful Town!
From the moment I stepped off the plane, I felt the magic of New York City washing over me. It was the first time I had been back since 2022, and even though the city has a constant hum of activity and excitement, it always manages to feel like a home away from home. The city pulsates with a kinetic energy, buzzing with creativity and endless possibility - everything felt fresh, exhilarating, and endlessly exciting.
As I checked into my little bijou hotel in Greenwich Village, I couldn't help but squeal with delight at the pink frilled lampshade in the room! It was the perfect finishing touch to my own little pink haven in this vibrant city. I know some people might find it a bit excessive, but I honestly think the world could do with a little more pink!
A Dance Marathon:
I was in New York on a very special mission this time - to experience the ultimate dance marathon. The program involved four glorious days of non-stop dancing, attending three spectacular ballet shows a day - an experience I'll cherish forever! It was exhilarating to witness so much talent and raw artistry on stage, especially with the iconic city backdrop as a bonus. I even found time for a few ballet classes with some fabulous teachers. They have a way of making you feel so inspired, you almost want to pirouette down Fifth Avenue!
New York by Metro:
Getting around was an adventure in itself. What else could I have used but the New York subway? I think it's the most efficient way to see a city - especially if you are on a mission to shop and visit as many ballet schools as possible. You see a whole different side to the city below ground - bustling and full of life with interesting personalities popping in and out of every corner!
One thing I learned during my adventures on the metro? If you wear a tutu, you automatically become a walking art exhibit! Everyone stops and smiles - I honestly think it might be the perfect antidote for any gloomy days in the Big Apple! The ladies loved my bright pink tutu, and it made every commute a mini ballet performance!
Shopping Spree, NYC Style
Oh, the shopping! The streets of New York are a retail heaven! From the boutiques of Soho to the legendary department stores of Fifth Avenue, my debit card took a pounding. You'd think my tutus would be a little understated considering the rest of my wardrobe, but they weren't! I picked up the most beautiful tutu, embroidered with gold sequins and adorned with tiny sparkling crystal butterflies, at the quaintest shop in Greenwich Village.
This one will definitely make an appearance in a future blog post, but if you need me, I'll be busy twirling with the sparkle!
My Favourite Moment
Of all the amazing things I experienced during my time in New York, my most magical moment came on a Wednesday evening. I wandered into the Lincoln Center for a performance of "The Nutcracker". As the orchestra started playing, the lights dimmed, and the curtain rose - I found myself in a realm of pure magic. There were dancers, glittering costumes, a gorgeous orchestra playing, and an air of wonder so intense, you could almost hear a pin drop!
As the music swelled and the dancers twirled with elegance, I felt a familiar emotion sweep over me, a sense of overwhelming joy and absolute bliss! This was it! The feeling that inspired me to take that leap, to chase my dream of ballet. The feeling I've wanted to share with the whole world since I was a little girl watching the ballet on TV in Derbyshire.
Pink Tutus: A Vision for the World
Don't worry, darlings, my passion for all things pink and fluffy continues! I truly believe wearing a pink tutu is not just a fashion statement but a statement of joy. A tutu is a reminder that life is a beautiful dance, an opportunity to celebrate all the good things. So if you're feeling brave enough to wear a pink tutu, do it! You won't regret it.
Looking forward to next week!
That’s all for this week, my loves! I’m off to the ballet studios to get back into my regular schedule. I will leave you with this: Life’s a dance, embrace it, embrace the beauty of pink! I'm looking forward to seeing you back here next Monday for another instalment of Pink Tutu Blog NYC! Until then, keep dancing! ?
Love always,
Emma ?
Emma’s NYC Diary:
Fashion Finds: I finally managed to get my hands on those fabulous rose-gold-sequined ballet shoes I had been lusting after. I managed to find a pair hidden away at a little shoe shop in the Lower East Side, a true gem. I also picked up the most beautiful pair of lavender-coloured tights - it’s important to be prepared for those spontaneous performances!
Food Fun: I couldn’t go to New York without stopping by Magnolia Bakery for a slice of their famous red velvet cupcake, It was absolutely heaven!
Must See Show: The New York City Ballet put on an incredible performance of "Romeo & Juliet" this week. It was beautifully danced and incredibly moving, I highly recommend it if you’re visiting!
Best Shop in the Village: The Little Shop of Pink. This adorable little store is brimming with all things pink - tutus, ribbons, feathers, you name it!
Next Week: Next week I’m planning to take a tour of Radio City Music Hall and maybe get my portrait taken with the Rockette's - Stay tuned to hear how it all goes.
