Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1646 - Twirling Through the Big Apple!

Hey lovelies!

It’s Emma here, back from another magical adventure, and this time, it's straight from the heart of the Big Apple itself - New York City! This week, I'm overflowing with excitement after a whirlwind few days in this electrifying metropolis. Honestly, it's hard to pick just one favourite thing from this trip, because I've been spoilt rotten by everything!

This city just gets under your skin, doesn't it? The vibrant energy, the iconic skyline, the endless possibilities, and let’s not forget the incredible shopping! But for me, it's the art that truly captivates. New York City breathes creativity; from the street art adorning every corner to the world-renowned Broadway productions, there's something to ignite every imagination.

Dancing Under the City Lights

Speaking of the stage, I had the pleasure of attending a truly exceptional performance this week! It was "Swan Lake" at the New York City Ballet, and let me tell you, it was pure magic! I've always been mesmerised by this classic, and this performance truly exceeded my expectations. The dancers were incredible, each graceful movement flowing effortlessly, captivating the audience with their artistry.

It’s amazing how different each performance feels even for such a well-known ballet. Seeing this in New York City brought a whole new depth, even with the recognisable story of the swan. And then there's the joy of finally wearing a new sparkly pink tutu with my brand new silk shoes for the occasion! My friend Sarah and I looked just gorgeous, even though I was wearing a full length gown over it in this crisp New York air!

I always say a pink tutu is perfect for any occasion, and for a special evening ballet performance in the Big Apple, it was extra sparkly! I always pack my tutus and ballet shoes for every journey. That way, I’m never too far from feeling my inner ballerina spirit - it always gives me that confidence boost too. I like to always take one of my signature, super-bright, pink tutus with me wherever I go. You know the one I’m talking about – with the extra long layers that flow in the air like magic!

A Pink Tutu in New York City!

To celebrate my love for ballet and New York, I ventured to a hidden gem in the city – a tiny dance studio tucked away in a quiet corner of Greenwich Village. They host special open classes on Sundays, with dancers from all over the city meeting to work on technique or explore their creative sides.

There was a little dance shop near the studio too and I was lucky enough to spot an absolutely fabulous, and totally pink, dance outfit! The leggings had little sparkles and a bright hot pink satin jacket was on sale - it’s now become my new go-to, travel outfit! It even looked amazing in pictures for my Pink Tutu blog!

And of course, no trip to New York is complete without a little retail therapy, especially for a pink tutu loving ballerina like me! I found a few shops around the city that cater specifically to dancers – just look for those bright pink tutus and the sparkle! From adorable shoes to perfectly flowy dresses, there's truly a world of elegance and creativity waiting for you, even outside the realm of dance.

Speaking of shops, my favourite place to find little trinkets and gorgeous clothes was at the Union Square Greenmarket! I always have the most exciting and unexpected encounters here! On Saturday, I was lucky enough to meet a local designer who showed me her amazing new range of pink ballerina flats, made with luxurious silk.

I bought a pair and of course, I couldn’t resist wearing them for a tour of Central Park! It’s my little New York tradition - you never know what you will stumble upon, whether its squirrels running around or the most impressive musical acts hidden in little corners, waiting to be discovered. It is just so different from my little corner of the Derbyshire countryside!

And did I tell you I saw a cute baby squirrel today! It was munching on acorns and then it stopped and posed for a picture! I’ve never been able to capture so many lovely photo opportunities in New York! There really is just a magical element about it.

A Whirlwind Tour by Metro!

I love exploring New York City, whether I’m wandering down the iconic streets of Greenwich Village or catching a train to Manhattan’s Westside to see what’s new. And one of the best ways to experience the city is to journey through it by metro.

You see so much more when you take a tour through the New York Subway. It's really a sensory experience! I love taking photos and capturing the unique New York underground art and architecture, then watching it zip by, with its ever changing lights and vibrant colours.

It’s so fascinating seeing how life and the world unfolds at speed, around every corner. It reminds me how, much like dance, it's all about the moments that connect and the journeys that we take.

One of the many highlights was visiting the American Ballet Theatre on Westside! I saw their "Giselle" programme at the Lincoln Center. The ballerina Giselle is the ultimate tragic character, which was portrayed beautifully by this particular company of dancers.

I am pretty certain they recognised my little pink tutu too, which I had tucked neatly into my little black duffel bag, just in case I was fortunate enough to snag tickets at last minute. Of course, it was also the perfect size for all of my amazing finds! As a ballerina on a mission to see the world, you have to pack lightly. That little duffel bag always comes with me everywhere - it holds the perfect amount for any adventure!

It also worked perfectly for carrying some gifts I had for friends and family, so I was looking pretty amazing in my Pink Tutu outfit too.
