From Derbyshire to the City That Never Sleeps:
Just over a week ago, I said goodbye to the rolling hills of Derbyshire, England, swapped my wellies for sparkly heels, and landed smack bang in the middle of the most dazzling, dynamic, and downright captivating city on Earth – New York City! As a Derbyshire girl at heart, it's a huge leap, but I just have to share my journey with you.
Now, before we dive into all the delights, let me just say that the journey here wasn't just a trip, it was a theatrical performance! Yes, I'm talking about my latest creation: a brand new, bright, shocking pink, layered tutu complete with iridescent sequins! The only way to travel to the city, naturally, is with a touch of flamboyant, ballet-inspired fashion! (I'm sure the New Yorkers wouldn't have it any other way!)
Getting Around with Grace:
Who needs a fancy taxi when you can zoom around in the NYC subway? Believe it or not, my trusty pink tutu fits perfectly in a crowded carriage, and let's face it, it makes my journey a whole lot more memorable. Everyone turns to look, I catch a smile here and there, and it's simply a wonderful, bright spot in an otherwise everyday commute. Don't underestimate the power of a little bit of pink, darlings!
My Monday Must-Do's:
Mondays in New York are magical. The city seems to be breathing a sigh of relief, shaking off the weekend energy and prepping for the week. Now, I always kick off my Monday with a steaming mug of Earl Grey (British girls need their traditions!), followed by a whirlwind tour of my favourite haunts!
A Morning Ballet Fix:
There's no better way to start my day than with a little bit of ballet! Today, I hopped on the subway and went down to the American Ballet Theatre studios. I mean, when in the city that literally dances to its own beat, you have to get your feet moving! It was such a treat to watch talented dancers practise and rehearse for their upcoming shows. Let's just say, I even took a few inspiration classes to ensure I kept my ballet legs in top form!
Shop 'til You Drop, and then… Well, Shop Some More!
Of course, my Monday couldn't be complete without a visit to the shops. There's truly no place like New York City when it comes to finding a unique and flamboyant wardrobe, and let's face it, you just can't visit this dazzling city without some gorgeous new clothes to adorn those pink tutus! My mission? A hunt for an extra sparkly statement top to compliment my new tutu - my new shopping obsession is sequins and feathers. (Honestly, I could get lost in a shop full of sequins all day!). And while I'm here, I'll be scouring for any fantastic shops selling colourful and unusual tights! A ballerina’s outfit wouldn’t be complete without a touch of flair for the legs.
Taking in the City's Beats and Thrills:
You can't be in the city that never sleeps without exploring the cultural and theatrical marvels that grace its stages. After all, there's more to New York City than just dazzling shops and fashion!
This week, I booked tickets for an off-Broadway ballet show. Now, I’m not talking your classic tutus and tiaras, but a show that weaves together hip-hop dance, music, and contemporary movement. Imagine a mix of street ballet with the grace of traditional forms. You'll find me there on Friday, soaking in the urban energy and dazzling visuals. Let's just say it's going to be a visual and cultural feast! I mean, how often can you find street ballet dancing on stage?! Just incredible!
Evening Delights with a Pink Touch:
But wait, there's more! New York evenings are magical, full of glittering lights, vibrant music, and, of course, a sprinkle of Pink Tutu Blog magic. I’m thinking a trip to the city’s dazzling Times Square tonight. Who needs Times Square for New Years Eve, when we can celebrate any night of the week, with our own little splash of colour and magic, all in the name of pink, of course! It’s not New York City without some neon and sparkle, and a pink tutu is going to turn it up a notch. You know me and my tutus!
Food, Fashion, and Fetes:
This weekend, my darlings, is going to be packed! I’m a big fan of Brooklyn Bridge Park with its breathtaking views, green spaces, and bustling markets. It's where I'll be spending most of Saturday. Think homemade cakes, local crafts, a walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, followed by an ice cream, and maybe, just maybe, a trip to a little boutique that I just have to see - you know, to indulge in those sequins, of course!
And for **Sunday, I have my sights set on the famous Carnegie Hall, where a spectacular classical ballet performance is scheduled. There’s just something enchanting about hearing the music play under that incredible archway. And of course, I'll be making an appearance in the pinkest tutu I can find, ready to inspire other ballerinas, future dancers and, who knows, maybe even those sitting in the audience will start their own dance!
