Hello lovelies! It's Monday, February 22nd, 2027, and I'm writing to you from the heart of the Big Apple, New York City! ? As you know, my travels are fueled by a passion for the performing arts, and this week, I've been waltzing through the streets of Manhattan with a heart full of joy and a pink tutu to match. ?
I’ve been a true tutu advocate since childhood. Growing up in Derbyshire, England, the only tutus I knew were worn at ballet classes. That was until the age of twelve, I won first prize at a school talent contest dancing in a glorious bright pink, full-length tulle tutu with matching butterfly wings. The roar of the crowd was deafening, and it was then I knew what my life’s calling would be. Ever since, my love of pink and tutus have only grown stronger. Now, it's my mission to spread the joy of the tutu, one whimsical twirl at a time! ?
A Whirlwind of Fashion & Culture in New York City
I arrived in New York a couple of days ago, and my schedule has been packed to the brim with all the incredible sights, sounds, and experiences that only this city can offer.
From the Metro to the Ballet Theatre
This morning, I began my day with a stylish adventure. As I usually do on these adventures, I started with a ride on the New York Metro. I must confess, I couldn't help but feel a bit silly with my pink tutu as I negotiated the packed carriages, but hey, you know what? It brightened up the commuters' days! Every time I boarded a train, I’d give a little twirl, a little curtsy, and maybe even a cheeky shimmy or two. What's life without a little flair, right? ?
Then, I dashed off to the grand Lincoln Center, where I was lucky enough to see a magnificent performance at the New York City Ballet Theatre. This was my real reason for being in New York, a preview performance of their Spring repertoire. It was a truly unforgettable performance - a dazzling kaleidoscope of beauty, power, and emotion. The dancers were incredible, and the artistry and technical precision blew me away. The beauty and artistry of it all took my breath away. It just reinforced that there's nothing quite like a live ballet performance - the energy, the artistry, the costumes. Honestly, just writing about it now makes my toes tingle! ?
The Sweet Taste of the Big Apple
No trip to New York City is complete without a bite of that iconic New York City pizza, followed by some gooey cheesecake from Junior’s. So, after my ballet experience, I wandered the streets and, much to my delight, stumbled upon a cute little cafe serving the most amazing lemon and poppy seed cheesecake I've ever tasted. Oh my gosh, it was pure bliss! ? I even bought a whole box of slices for my friend Lily (you all know how much she adores cheesecakes), so now she can enjoy the sweet flavours of New York City too.
The Perfect Ballet Look
And speaking of flair and my beloved pink tutus, my outfit for the day was as whimsical as my adventures.
Let's talk tutu. My choice was a vintage, ballet-pink tulle tutu, a classic for me. A delicate wisp of sheer fabric cascading in delicate waves to just above my knee. Of course, it came with the perfect sparkle - this time, a sprinkling of shimmery sequins for some extra sparkle on the New York pavements.
My shoes were a statement in themselves. I opted for my signature ballet pumps, these time, a beautiful, pale-pink shade that harmonised perfectly with the tutu. I love ballet pumps! They are versatile and go with anything. They’re classic, comfortable and effortlessly stylish. I can easily walk for hours in them. They're my "go-to" footwear for any city escapade.
And let’s not forget my accessories! A dainty silver ballet slipper necklace adorned my neck. This beautiful piece, a timeless treasure that perfectly captured my love of ballet. I had to, of course, include my trademark pink satin ribbons tied in graceful bows, as well as a statement-making sparkly pink butterfly pin to give my outfit a playful touch.
To top it off, I had a cute little black tote bag (a necessity for every ballet fan - there’s so much memorabilia that needs taking home) with a dazzling silver sparkly ballet slipper embellishment! To be honest, there's something about twirling around the city in a tulle tutu that just makes me feel fantastic!
Retail Therapy: Shopping Like a Ballerina
It’s a fashion truth, shopping in New York is always exciting!
Later on in the afternoon, I found myself getting lost in the streets of Soho, exploring its eclectic boutiques. Soho is known for its avant-garde fashion and its street style. There are boutiques to suit all tastes - luxury to vintage to vintage-inspired - you can always find what you’re looking for, or find something unexpected.
I popped into a couple of my favourite vintage boutiques – where I unearthed a stunning scarlet red feather boa, perfect for adding a touch of red to a black ensemble for the Broadway show I’ll be going to tomorrow night, and some stunning, silver jewellery that will really set off my vintage silver ballet slipper necklace.
There are also, some incredible contemporary fashion houses in Soho. I’m excited to see the trends coming in the next couple of years, and there’s so much that is “ballet inspired” from these high-end designers - it’s lovely to be able to pick out the little details. I feel like, through my pink tutu, I’m leading a whole ballet movement. Who knew that pink tulle could inspire so much, right?
The Enchanting Sounds of Broadway
After a whirlwind of shopping, it was time for a delicious dinner at one of the famous Italian restaurants near my hotel, followed by a visit to the legendary Broadway theatre. I’m an absolute sucker for a good show.
Oh my, I have to share the excitement with you! Tonight, I went to see a smash-hit musical, the ever-popular “Hamilton,” which has captured the hearts of many, including mine!
If you haven't heard of it, "Hamilton" is a groundbreaking musical that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. It’s about political intrigue, love and sacrifice. But it is so much more, it's a musical sensation packed with hip-hop, rap, R&B, and traditional musical theatre, and it really brings this extraordinary man and historical events to life!
The performance, it was electrifying, moving, and utterly immersive, I couldn’t have imagined a better way to experience a live performance. Every detail was impeccable - from the choreography to the costumes to the performances, this really was a show stopping Broadway experience!
Living My Best Tutu Life
It’s hard to imagine what the next couple of days will hold in New York, but I’m sure it will be a glamorous whirlwind of experiences. But whatever happens, I’m so excited for this adventure, it’s incredible to be in the greatest city in the world.
It’s time for me to catch some shut eye. It has been a long and exciting day in the big city, and my aching legs need some TLC.
But one thing’s for sure – I’ll be hitting the ground running in the morning! With another day full of ballet and, hopefully, lots more tutus, fashion, and fabulous experiences! ? ?
So stay tuned to the www.pink-tutu.com website next Monday for all the updates from my next New York adventures. You won't want to miss what this tutu has up its sleeve next.
