Good morning, darlings! It's a brand new week and, as always, I'm so thrilled to be back with you for another adventure in my beloved New York City. This time, I'm sporting my brand new, shimmering pink tulle tutu, hand-crafted by the amazing Miss Dolly down in Soho. It's the perfect shade of blush, and the sparkle is utterly divine - it’s like a mini explosion of glitter every time I twirl!
I'm just back from the most breathtaking performance at the Metropolitan Opera, and let me tell you, my darling readers, I was absolutely smitten with every single second of it. It was a modern interpretation of Swan Lake, and the choreography was truly out of this world! There were moments where the dancers were so perfectly synchronised, it was like they were all moving as one, a beautiful ballet symphony of elegance and grace. I felt utterly inspired – almost enough to give it all up and join the ballet myself! Almost… ?
And then, of course, there were the costumes! Each ballerina had her own unique dress, all in those rich, luxurious fabrics, each more magnificent than the last. I have a bit of a costume weakness, you see… I can't help but be utterly mesmerized by beautiful pieces of clothing, and a ballet performance, with its beautiful costumes, always hits the spot.
Speaking of clothes, I absolutely had to head to Fifth Avenue after the performance for a little shopping spree. New York City truly is a haven for the fashion-conscious - the boutiques here are a dream. And did I mention Fifth Avenue is overflowing with pink? ?
Speaking of pink, have you all spotted my brand new collection of pink feather boas? I think they’re a bit special, don’t you? They’re featherlight and make the most fabulous swishing sound as I strut down the street, and are perfect for adding a touch of pink (and, dare I say it, a hint of whimsical) to any outfit. They look fabulous draped around my neck for a touch of whimsy, and are also fantastic for throwing a pink party with some close friends.
The best bit? I managed to pick up a gorgeous pink feathered fascinator to wear to a cocktail party tonight! Imagine my excitement!
While we’re on the subject of fabulous events, can you believe it’s already that time of year – the cherry blossoms are finally out on the Upper West Side! The air smells divine, the sun is warm and the vibrant pink petals look almost otherworldly against the lush green trees. The whole experience was just magical! I spent the afternoon enjoying the blossoms with a lovely pot of afternoon tea and a slice of cherry blossom cake (you simply must try this amazing treat when you’re in NYC). I had to pick up some blossom themed floral decor for my apartment in Williamsburg – it looks divine next to my ballet photos.
Of course, what's a trip to New York without a journey on the Metro? My day always feels a little bit more complete once I've taken a ride on those iconic subway cars – they are an integral part of the city’s heartbeat! Today, my ride took me to Times Square for some pre-show pizza. I tried this wonderful little joint tucked away in a side street - oh, my, the food! And the atmosphere! They were showing an amazing new dance production on the big screen, and it totally made me want to hit up a new dance class. Maybe this week will be a Ballet Barre day. It’s been a while since I really focused on ballet fitness – gotta keep my dancing skills honed!
There is such a vibrant and electric energy buzzing around Times Square. I couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement – a little bit of my Derbyshire heart beat a little faster too! It was so good to soak in the atmosphere. And I even found a new vintage store on 42nd street – can you believe my luck!
Now, don't you worry, darling readers, I’m not going to be just relaxing at home for the rest of the week. I’m actually meeting some new designers at a charity event at The Plaza Hotel tonight. The dress code is ‘Glamour’ – think sparkly and pink, obviously! It's all in support of ‘Dancers for Hope’, a lovely charity which provides ballet shoes and lessons for young girls in underserved communities. I am delighted to be an ambassador for them - helping to bring ballet to everyone is truly what life is all about!
Of course, before all the glitz and glamour begins, I have a date with my sewing machine. It's time to design a few new costumes and accessories for my next show, because when it comes to sequins, feather boas and dancing, my imagination is really running wild these days! And I know you are, too, darlings, you fabulous tutu-wearing crew!
Keep those pink tutu-wearing dreams alive, and remember: if you ever dream of twirling in the streets of New York, don't just dream about it – come and make it happen!
Lots of love and happy twirls,
Emma ?✨?
