Hello my dearest Tutu Twirlers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad blogger, and guess what? I'm in New York City! Yep, this little ballerina has finally touched down in the Big Apple, and let me tell you, it's everything I dreamed it would be.
First off, I've got to tell you about the journey. Now, I’ve never actually travelled by subway before, not like this. Usually, it’s a hop and a skip on the local Derbyshire bus. But this was a different kettle of fish! You know, all the screeching, the lights, the rush, and the constant "Mind the gap." The noise of New York never stops. It’s definitely an experience, and I feel like I've seen more of the city in my short time here than some people do in their lifetime!
Oh, but let’s talk about my arrival. The station… a kaleidoscope of smells, sights, and sounds! Then I catch my first glimpse of New York City - towering buildings touching the clouds, and those yellow cabs speeding past. You know, the city never sleeps!
Right now, I'm sat in a cute little café with a huge window overlooking Times Square. The sheer number of people just blowing my mind! But this little ballerina didn’t just arrive and land in a fancy hotel with all the trimmings. No, I’m all about a little adventure! My hotel room? You guessed it… a quirky little attic room on the 6th floor of a brownstone building! Tiny, cosy, but with a killer view.
I've been here two days now, and you’d think with all the sightseeing and exploring I’ve done, I’d be absolutely shattered. But honestly, I’ve never felt so alive!
Now, here's what’s on the menu for this week’s Pink Tutu adventure:
Monday 8th March 2027: It's International Women's Day! Today, I'm planning a big, bold statement! I've been researching vintage clothing shops, and I think I’ll start the day by searching for the perfect pink tutu for a bit of a photoshoot. Then, after lunch at that famous “Shake Shack” place everyone’s talking about, I'll head over to Central Park and put on a little impromptu performance. Because, why not? We all deserve a bit of magic on International Women’s Day, right?
Tuesday 9th March 2027: This little ballerina has some important shopping to do! A little research on the fabulous shops and department stores in NYC, and it’s going to be a full day of fashion and shopping. Maybe a quick dance lesson at the nearby studio afterwards? It's never too late to learn new moves!
Wednesday 10th March 2027: Today is all about Broadway! I’m so excited. It's like, the very core of what New York represents - its history, its energy. The city that never sleeps. So, this is the day I will embrace everything about New York theater. Tickets to a big show (a friend of a friend, a fabulous dancer who was on a Broadway production of Swan Lake, gave me the hot tip). And then, a performance at a little more intimate theater space, something independent, something new and exciting.
Thursday 11th March 2027: I’ve booked a ballet class! You know I can't travel anywhere and not go to at least one ballet class. But, I’ve got my eyes set on this fabulous studio run by an actual prima ballerina. The classes are renowned for their style and artistry - she's known for the emphasis on storytelling and feeling your movement, not just the technical side of things. And after all the sightseeing, I'm sure I could do with a bit of a ballet workout!
Friday 12th March 2027: New York's always abuzz with amazing food stalls. And since we’re talking about International Women's Day this week, I’ve got this great idea for my Friday - an afternoon market adventure. It's time to connect with some local food and discover new treats. Then, in the evening, it's a late-night show!
Saturday 13th March 2027: What better way to spend a Saturday than exploring more of the city and discovering some cool places? I might go to the Met (The Metropolitan Museum of Art). Maybe I'll check out a famous New York City landmark or a fabulous little museum dedicated to a specific art form. I always say, inspiration is around every corner!
Sunday 14th March 2027: The week in New York winds down, but there's still time for a little fun! Perhaps a "Breakfast at Tiffany's"-themed morning in Central Park? Or maybe a morning dance in the park. After all, nothing says New York quite like a little tutu and a twirl!
Oh, before I forget, the biggest reason why I've travelled all this way… It’s about the show I’ve been rehearsing for, in New York's heart - "Pink Tutu & The City." Yep, you read that right. I've been choreographing my very own ballet for a special performance. It’s going to be all about the city, the magic, the hustle and bustle, the beauty, and, of course, it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu Blog show if it didn't have a whole lot of pink! I’m so nervous! The opening is next week, but this weekend is all about finalising the show, tweaking a few routines, getting my costume just right. Oh, I’ve got so much going on, I could burst!
The whole reason I decided to come to New York City - my vision was about performing on its legendary streets, embracing its magic, and showing the world, well, maybe just New York City for now, that ballet can truly be about anyone, anywhere. About finding joy, about expressing yourself freely, and that everyone, and I do mean everyone deserves to wear a pink tutu and dance in their own little corner of the world.
Don’t forget, check back here next Monday for another update. Oh, and I have something extra special coming for all of you next week. You're not going to want to miss it!
Love,
Emma
