Helloooo gorgeous! It's your girl Emma, back from another dazzling adventure in the city that never sleeps, New York! As always, I've been living life to the fullest, dancing my heart out, embracing the pink, and spreading the joy of the tutu (even if the weather's decided to throw a few spring showers my way - rain or shine, a pink tutu always shines through!). This week's post, number 1660 on the www.pink-tutu.com journey, is bursting with bright colours, beautiful ballet, and the thrilling energy that only New York can provide. Buckle up, darlings, because you're about to join me on a whirlwind trip through my New York adventures!
From Derbyshire to the Big Apple - With a Stop in Brooklyn!
Let's rewind the tape a little bit. Last week, I left the charming green hills of Derbyshire for the vibrant buzz of the Big Apple. There's nothing like arriving in New York, especially when you get to step onto the platform of Grand Central Terminal in a swirly, pink tutu. The sheer magnitude of the place, the relentless rhythm of the city, always fills me with such a sense of awe! It feels like the whole world is rushing past you, but at the same time, you’re the only one on the planet, you’re the centre of it all, because you’re Emma and you’ve come to make it happen! You just need a little pink tutu to let everyone know it!
As much as I love the pulse of Manhattan, my first stop this week was across the East River in the effortlessly cool Brooklyn. A quick hop on the metro - it really is the easiest way to get around - brought me to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. You can always find me gravitating towards the beautiful dance halls of New York.
Brooklyn Academy of Music: A Symphony of Movement and Grace
BAM is more than just a performing arts centre, it's an entire creative universe brimming with artistic energy! And I, naturally, couldn't miss the chance to see the exquisite performance of the Ballet Russe. Oh, it was pure ballet bliss! The dancers moved with such grace, power and emotion - a feast for the eyes, ears and soul. The intricate footwork, the effortless leaps, the passion pouring out in each pirouette... my heart simply soared. It was pure inspiration, reminding me why I love dance, why I love tutus, why I love pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas.
The Power of Pink: Finding the Perfect Outfit!
After such a beautiful performance, there's only one place for a ballerina to go: The Shops at Columbus Circle!
That’s right, I've got a major love affair with New York’s shopping scene, and the Shops at Columbus Circle never disappoint. What's a girl to do after a ballet performance in the crisp autumn air of New York but get wrapped up in the colours and styles of some of the best fashion retailers around! I knew what I needed to wear, it had to have that gorgeous, sophisticated, yet still delightfully flirty New York edge! I think I achieved the look with this stunning black skirt with a shimmery, almost-holographic finish. A simple, classic look but with a futuristic flair. This skirt called to me with it’s elegance, simplicity and chic-ness - oh and I just had to have it! I paired it with a flowing cream silk blouse. That’s the thing with fashion, there’s always something out there to tempt you! This ensemble was just begging to have a touch of colour, and well, what colour can brighten any look but Pink?! Of course! I topped it off with my favourite, sparkling, candy floss pink cashmere cardigan – a reminder of my love for a little sweetness in my life. And as a final flourish, what else could it be, but the show stopper – a classic tutu! A ballerina never goes without one, and I’m no exception! I opted for a delicate pale pink tutu in a lovely, soft silk – the kind you’d imagine a fairytale princess twirling in.
The final outfit was absolute magic! You have no idea, my darlings, the number of “Oh wow, that’s stunning, love the skirt, LOVE THE TUTU!” that followed me on my walk back to my apartment, I can’t believe that my beloved pink tutu turned heads, got people’s hearts thumping, and started a real fashion conversation in New York!
Sunday Brunch at the Bistro du Sommelier
I like to mix up the city, so this past Sunday morning, I had brunch at the Bistro du Sommelier, a Parisian style cafe tucked away on a cobblestone side street. Such an enchanting spot! As soon as I walked in, I knew I had discovered something very special - the charming ambiance, the soft jazz playing in the background, the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and most importantly, the menu of culinary delights! The menu looked amazing! The choices were like works of art! You’d expect a Bistro of this class to produce dishes that were not just food but a feast for your senses and it delivered! From the creamy homemade granola with fresh berries and whipped coconut yoghurt, to perfectly crafted pastries, it was deliciousness all the way through! They also had a range of coffees from the best roasting houses - you see, there are many details I appreciate about these little hidden gem restaurants! I finished off my feast with the divine lavender and chamomile tea - it truly is my all-time favourite, the perfect way to start a day!
I find that it’s these little side street eateries that show off New York’s hidden treasures - sometimes the most gorgeous, surprising places aren’t right out in the limelight!
Manhattan Adventures: The Great White Way and a Whirlwind of Style
New York, naturally, is for showing off, so as the weekend was drawing to a close, I ventured into the theatre district for a truly spectacular Broadway show. I love seeing all of the posters for the famous Broadway plays - all those beautiful bright posters are just amazing! Of course, nothing gets you pumped for a show like a pink tutu and some sparkle! It's all about that confident, yet still playful, energy - ready to immerse yourself in the magic of theatre!
Oh my word, the show itself was truly breath-taking! There was everything – vibrant costumes, exhilarating dancing, powerful acting. It was an emotional rollercoaster and the audience was totally captivated! What is more exhilarating than live theatre - there’s that raw energy, that magic that connects the performance and the audience. After a brilliant performance, you feel rejuvenated and energized. There’s something deeply moving and profound about theatre, a great play can leave a mark on you.
That said, I couldn’t just walk past all those amazing clothes stores around Times Square. No way! After a night at the theatre, shopping is the best way to spend an evening! My new tutu called out for an outfit that was as fabulous as the show, something that had both grace and glam, elegance and playfulness! I know this outfit will be an instant favourite!
This week's haul from Zara has already gotten so many compliments - it has that gorgeous minimalist style. What’s better than an outfit that goes perfectly with your newest pink tutu? It’s this classic white dress with a beautiful, flowing design that hugs your waist and flutters around you as you move. To keep the white sleek, I’ll pair it with simple but impactful jewellery, just to add a touch of personality to the overall look. The “Pink Paradise” bangle perfectly sets off my favourite colour in gorgeous rose gold. A little sprinkle of pink to remind everyone that tutus and pink belong together – and of course, it all finishes with my stunning ballet pumps! That's the thing, pink goes with everything – the magic is endless, pink really does add a little sprinkle of sparkle to even the most elegant looks!
Back to the Metro: A Farewell for Now… But Only For Now!
It's always a bit bittersweet saying goodbye to New York, but with another week of amazing experiences packed in my suitcase, it's time to head back home. I can already feel the excitement for next week, because I'm sure the magic of the city will be waiting for me once again. But until then, I'm already planning my next adventure - a quick trip to LA - with an important ballet performance - you just can’t get away from those tutus! Maybe the next time you hear from me I will be wearing something totally new – an outfit to show off my LA style! But even with new cities to explore and new places to dance, the pink tutu remains a constant companion.
A Big Thank You!
As always, a huge thank you for joining me on this week’s adventures!
