Hello, darlings! It's Monday morning, the sun is shining through my window (and, let's be honest, it's always shining a bit brighter when you're in the Big Apple, isn't it?), and I'm positively buzzing with excitement after a whirlwind weekend in New York City. Now, you all know my mantra: "Live, love, and wear a pink tutu!" And let me tell you, NYC is the perfect place to do just that.
As a lifelong lover of all things glitzy, glam, and utterly fabulous, the thought of spending a weekend in New York has been dancing around in my head for years. The city that never sleeps, the fashion capital of the world, a stage for dreamers and doers, a place where even the pigeons look like they're ready for a runway show – well, you can see why it’s a place that captured my imagination. And this past weekend, that dream finally became reality.
Oh, and let me not forget to mention that it was a particularly magical weekend – April 19th, 2027. That's right, darlings, a date etched in the pinkest ink on my calendar, because on that date I witnessed an absolute masterpiece of ballet, the New York City Ballet's performance of "Giselle". This, my dear friends, was an evening I will cherish forever!
But before we delve into that, let's rewind the clock a little. After all, the journey itself was as exciting as the destination.
Getting There, Tutu-Style:
A plane journey from England is never short, but when you’re travelling to the magical city that is New York, it seems to melt away in an instant. Stepping out of the airport and breathing in that intoxicating city air - a symphony of exhaust fumes, popcorn, and street vendors' cries – it truly felt like I was home.
The real adventure started when I hopped onto the subway. Now, for you lot who live in London, the tube might be old hat. But in New York, it's a whole other story. There are endless lines, bustling stations that feel like they’re about to burst, and of course, the legendary rattlesnake warning! But even those elements add to the excitement. I was riding those metal rails to my destination – a hotel with views overlooking Central Park. Oh, the views! Just the perfect place to unwind and take in the incredible panorama. It's almost impossible to describe just how inspiring the skyline is at sunset, shimmering in the fading light. It felt like a city just waiting to be explored.
Friday Fun: Exploring Times Square and The Little Shop of Horrors
Once settled in, I was ready to hit the streets! First stop – Times Square, the very epicentre of the New York experience. The sheer brightness of it all is dazzling – lights, billboards, and screens, it's sensory overload, but the best kind. I’m not going to lie, there was a little part of me that thought it was all a bit much, even for a tutu-wearing enthusiast, but the sheer energy was exhilarating.
Feeling a bit more grounded, we popped over to see "The Little Shop of Horrors," on Broadway, a real treat! The theatre is beautiful and the cast were fantastic! Seeing those actors singing and dancing their hearts out right there, in front of hundreds of people, truly reignited my passion for the performing arts.
Shopping Heaven:
There was absolutely no way I could resist the call of Fifth Avenue. And darling, you know I had to wear my favourite pink tutu – you don’t just get to walk down Fifth Avenue, you have to stomp down Fifth Avenue. The windows of the luxury stores were practically begging me to admire their collections – Dior, Gucci, Chanel. It was everything I'd ever dreamed of and more. I may not have been able to afford a whole lot, but the sheer visual indulgence was enough to put a smile on my face.
After a morning spent browsing, and resisting the urge to empty my wallet entirely, we decided to indulge in a classic New York pizza. That creamy mozzarella, tangy tomato sauce, and the crispy, thin base – utter perfection! The perfect fuel for another dose of NYC wonder.
The Dream Come True: Giselle at The New York City Ballet
Saturday night brought the ultimate ballet experience. The New York City Ballet – the name alone evokes a certain mystique! I'd always imagined watching a show there, feeling the excitement in the air as the curtain rose, and listening to the music of a thousand strings as the dancers twirled and leapt across the stage. And finally, my dreams became reality.
Wearing a tulle-soft, delicate blush-pink tutu (perfectly matching the romanticism of the ballet) I took my seat in the opulent auditorium. From the moment the lights dimmed and the music started, I was transported. "Giselle" – the story of a young peasant girl who falls in love with a nobleman, only to discover his betrayal. It was an evening of passionate dancing, heartbreaking sorrow, and powerful storytelling. I was spellbound, and the goosebumps had my skin tingling with awe!
Each dancer moved with such elegance and grace. Their passion poured into every movement, they embodied every emotion – love, deceit, pain, loss. The whole performance was a testament to their dedication to the art.
As I watched, my mind was flooded with inspiration. Every time I see a performance like this, it reignites that fire in my belly. You all know I strive to bring a bit of that magical, fantastical world into my daily life. The pink tutu is my way of embracing the inner dancer in every single person.
And yes, I even bought a little piece of the magic for myself – a beautiful porcelain ballerina figurine. She's going to grace my dresser in Derbyshire, and I'm sure you'll see her in a photo on my social media. She reminds me of the power of a single, beautiful moment in time.
The Return:
The end of a weekend is always bittersweet. But as I boarded my flight back to the UK, a bittersweet ache turned into excitement. The city's magic lingered, and a part of me knew that it wasn't "goodbye" but "until next time". I returned home to my family in Derbyshire a changed girl, with a renewed appreciation for my own little corner of the world. It's been amazing to share my travels and passions with you – you truly are the best audience. And I'm already looking forward to the next chapter!
Until next Monday, darlings. Remember – life is meant to be danced, so keep twirling and stay radiant.

P.S. If you’re heading to New York any time soon, make sure to visit the American Ballet Theatre. And let’s be honest, it goes without saying, wear a pink tutu.
Extra Thoughts:As I sit here, my head swirling with memories of my weekend in NYC, I'm realising just how many experiences can fit into a short space of time. From the dazzling spectacle of Times Square to the elegant ballet of "Giselle," from the smell of freshly baked pretzels in the street to the warmth of my hotel room looking over Central Park, I’m realizing just how much the city gives you, how much inspiration is there waiting for anyone who wants to soak it up.
I think this is one of the key things that makes New York such a captivating place. It’s an infinite source of inspiration, a city where anyone can feel like they belong. It’s full of dreams, energy, and creativity.
But also, in amongst the big city hustle, I saw beauty everywhere. The street vendors, selling their wares with genuine warmth, the local cafes where people came together, and of course, the majestic skyline with its promise of countless possibilities.
As you all know, I love ballet. And I'm convinced that ballet's elegance and grace can teach us all something about how to live. When you watch those dancers spin, jump, and glide across the stage, you’re not just watching a performance, you’re watching an art form that has the ability to transform hearts.
My biggest takeaway from the trip? Don’t be afraid to dream big, embrace your own style, and always, always, wear your pink tutu with confidence. That’s my secret weapon to turning any experience, any place, any moment into something truly magical. And that, darlings, is the secret ingredient to finding your own happiness and inspiration in a big, beautiful, pink-tutu-friendly world.
