Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing blogger, back with another whirlwind of a week in the most fabulous city on earth – New York City!
This week, the Big Apple really did feel like a gigantic pink tutu, swirling me around in a dizzying dance of excitement.
A Week of Ballet Bliss:
My week kicked off with a most magical trip to the iconic Lincoln Center. The Met Opera House, decked out in its glorious pink-tinged grandeur, hosted the most breathtaking production of Swan Lake I've ever seen. It was like a dream! The grace and artistry of the dancers, the soaring music, the sheer spectacle of it all - I was spellbound. And, of course, I couldn't resist a bit of "tutu-licious" fashion fun with my own pale pink tutu layered over a flowy black maxi dress, adding a touch of whimsical charm to the occasion.
Speaking of tutus, did you know that May is actually "Tutu Awareness Month"?! Well, it's definitely "Tutu Appreciation Month" here at Pink Tutu Blog NYC. I was absolutely thrilled to be part of a lovely little "pink tutu" flash mob at Times Square last week! It was a giggle-inducing experience to watch everyone, from tourists to commuters, come to a standstill and burst into laughter as we pirouetted our way through the crowds. Let's face it, who wouldn't want to see a flash mob of people dressed in pink tutus?!
Of course, a trip to the Big Apple isn't complete without a ballet class, and I was beyond excited to join a class at the illustrious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Harlem! The studio, bustling with energy and a joyful spirit, felt like a haven for passionate dancers like me. My heart soared as I pirouetted and stretched, feeling the music coursing through my veins and the warmth of my tutu surrounding me like a comforting hug. It was pure bliss, darlings.
From Ballet to Broadway:
My passion for dance isn't limited to just ballet, you see. I’m an avid theatre-goer and last night was an absolute dream! I got to see Hamilton – the production, the music, the story – it was all so utterly brilliant! I have to admit, I did shed a few tears of joy at the finale! My trusty pink tutu, a delightful blush shade this time, added a touch of ballerina magic to my Broadway adventure.
The Pinkest Place in the City:
My exploration of New York wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a certain fabulous boutique – a treasure trove of all things pink! “The Pink Flamingo” is truly a haven for girly-girls like me, boasting the most exquisite collection of shoes, dresses, and accessories in shades that would make even a flamingo blush. I just had to try on a bewitching pink sequined dress, and I confess, I practically skipped back to my hotel with a heart overflowing with girly glee!
A Bite of Brooklyn:
And no journey to the Big Apple would be complete without a trip to the charming borough of Brooklyn. I spent a gloriously sunny afternoon exploring the colourful streets of Williamsburg, browsing local boutiques, and devouring the most delicious lobster roll I’ve ever tasted!
The Magic of Metro Travel:
You might think a tutu wouldn’t be practical in the bustling New York subway, but oh, how wrong you’d be! I actually found it quite amusing. The look of surprise on people’s faces as they realised it wasn’t a costume, but simply me in my everyday “get-up,” was priceless! And it’s truly an adventure: squeezing onto the train with your fellow passengers, watching the world whizz by, and maybe even striking up a conversation with a friendly local. Remember, darlings, it’s all about embracing the unexpected!
Pink is the New Black:
And as for my mission – to get the entire world to wear pink tutus – well, I'd say progress is definitely being made! Every time I step out in my tutu, I receive a flurry of compliments and curious glances. It's becoming less of a novelty and more of a fashion statement. People are starting to understand the joy, the freedom, and the playful spirit of a good old pink tutu!
Coming up in next week's Pink Tutu Blog NYC:
The city that never sleeps is brimming with exciting new things, and next week is going to be full of fun. I’m off to see a spectacular aerial dance performance, get lost in a bustling flea market, and, of course, indulge in more delicious New York City food. So, tune in next Monday for all the glitzy pink-filled shenanigans!
Until then, keep those tutus twirling and don’t forget to let your inner ballerina shine, darlings! Remember, life’s too short for boring outfits!
With love and pink kisses,
Emma
