Good morning, darlings! The crisp autumn air nipped at my cheeks as I skipped out of my tiny Upper West Side flat this morning, a flurry of pink tulle swirling around me. The Big Apple was calling, and you know I just had to answer. My trusty pink tutu felt especially fabulous this morning, sparkling in the early morning sunlight – the perfect accompaniment to my favourite pair of cherry-red knee-high boots and a silk blouse the colour of a juicy strawberry. As I always say, when in doubt, more pink!
And let me tell you, today was filled with so many delicious delights that even I, a notorious pink-tutu enthusiast, was positively overwhelmed. After all, this wasn't just any ordinary Monday – no, my dears, today was Ballet Week in New York!
It’s the biggest dance event in the city, a whirlwind of workshops, performances, and discussions featuring some of the world’s most renowned choreographers and dancers. The air was buzzing with anticipation as I navigated the city via my trusty metro companion (thank you, MTA!) on my way to a whirlwind tour of all the exciting happenings.
First stop? A free ballet workshop in the heart of Times Square. I practically bounced in my seat with excitement as a troupe of dancers from the City Ballet demonstrated an excerpt from their upcoming performance of “Giselle”. The steps were intricate, their grace and strength inspiring.
Afterwards, I couldn’t resist dipping into a nearby store for a little fashion therapy. I’m quite sure I spent a good hour perusing the racks at that lovely little boutique on 5th Avenue, the one with all the delicious raspberry-coloured knitwear. Imagine my delight when I found a little pink sweater with delicate silver snowflakes! The perfect touch to complement a rather fabulously over-sized pink knit beanie - simply perfect for this delightfully crisp weather, don’t you think?
But no trip to New York would be complete without experiencing a real treat from the Broadway scene! So, with a happy heart and a few additional souvenirs in tow, I hurried towards the Music Box Theatre, where the acclaimed Royal Ballet of London was performing Tchaikovsky’s timeless classic "Swan Lake" that evening.
From the first sweeping chords of the overture to the final poignant gesture of Odette’s swan song, the entire experience was nothing short of breathtaking. My jaw actually dropped as the prima ballerina performed the infamous "White Swan" sequence, her body a blur of elegance and power. You just wouldn’t believe how my tutu felt a little more majestic just from the pure artistry of that performance. It really is something else. The artistry on stage just brought a sense of pure magic to life.
A ballet performance is more than just an evening of entertainment, it’s a celebration of art, music, and pure beauty. And it reminded me once again of the wonderful power of ballet, a truly magical art form capable of transporting audiences to another world.
Oh, and my friends at the London Ballet have assured me they'll bring back their phenomenal interpretation of "Romeo and Juliet" for another week long run during Ballet Week next year! Just imagine, an entire week devoted to ballet... heaven!
This city just has such a powerful aura of artistic energy that it truly inspires you to keep pushing your limits and achieving those dreams you have in your heart. The spirit of New York City is truly something to behold!
So as I finished up my delicious, but slightly belated, dinner of spaghetti carbonara (one must always embrace the good carb options while on vacation!), I pondered on what made this journey so special, and it wasn’t just the ballets, oh no. It was all about the moments, the chance encounters, the whispers of exciting chatter coming from every corner and the joyful bursts of laughter echoing through the subway station.
There’s truly nothing quite like the unique atmosphere of this magical metropolis! The lights of Broadway twinkle with the excitement of another vibrant show, the sidewalks hum with the energy of a thousand different stories being lived out. It is in these moments that I realize just how magical life truly is! And with that thought, I retreat to my comfy, fluffy pink bedspread, happy and utterly fulfilled. Tomorrow, I will start a new week in my little corner of the world with a smile and, of course, a twirl!
But for now, I’ll just leave you with this thought: A touch of pink, a sprinkle of sparkle, and a whole lot of magic. That's what it means to be a pink tutu girl in New York!

See you next week, dearies! And please don’t forget, Live. Love. Twirl!
