Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 1689 - A Tutu Twirl Through the City That Never Sleeps!

Hello, my gorgeous darlings!

It's Monday again, and you know what that means? It's time for another fabulous Pink Tutu Blog NYC post! I'm still in the Big Apple, and let me tell you, it's been a whirlwind of tutus and twinkling lights.

This week, I'm overflowing with inspiration – it's truly the city that never sleeps, and that includes my ballet-loving heart! The energy here is electric, and every corner I turn, there's a new story waiting to be told. So grab your favourite pink beverage (a pink iced tea for me, of course!), get comfy, and let's dive into the pink tutu world of New York City!

The Ballet Beat:

My weekend was all about celebrating the beautiful art of dance! I started with a delightful Saturday evening performance at the Lincoln Center, where I witnessed the grace and passion of the New York City Ballet. I was captivated by the way their movements flowed effortlessly, their stories conveyed with a flick of the wrist, and the sheer brilliance of the stagecraft.

Afterward, I indulged in a celebratory "ballet-inspired" dinner at one of the city's top-rated restaurants. It had a whimsical decor, pink fairy lights twinkling among the tables, and my dinner was even garnished with edible butterflies. It was a perfect touch!

Then, on Sunday, I took myself to the city's oldest ballet school - it's housed in a beautifully preserved building with the most stunning stained glass windows - and booked myself onto their Beginner's Ballet class! The students were incredibly friendly, and even though I was quite nervous (remember, even though I've danced since I was little, I'm mostly a performance ballerina, not a classroom one!), the teacher was so welcoming and supportive. She made sure we all understood each move and felt comfortable, and it was wonderful to get my own dancing muscles moving again.

The Fashion Fiesta:

You know I can't come to a city like New York without a bit of a shopping spree! Now, you can't be a true pink tutu queen without a fabulous outfit to match, so I had to make a stop at Bergdorf Goodman – a shopping paradise! I've never seen so much fashion inspiration crammed into one space! They have everything from chic hats to exquisite jewellery and my favourite – tutus for the everyday ballerina – think flowing, full skirts, in every colour of the rainbow – including, naturally, my beloved pink. The best part is, I can even dress the girls back in Derbyshire, with the fab mail order section - you really could lose yourself in that space, it's like Alice going down the rabbit hole!

Of course, no New York shopping trip is complete without a visit to the fabulous Garment District – home to the largest concentration of apparel retailers in the entire country. And let's be honest, a ballerina in the city just needs another tutu (or 10!), don't you think?

The Metro Madness

Getting around New York is so easy on the Metro. You can go to almost any location, get to meet all kinds of people (I always find it such fun to watch and try and guess their story!) and the whole vibe of the train is always so full of life and energy! This time I discovered this amazing coffee shop just off the Times Square Station – you wouldn’t think it was there, hidden away as it is - they have this adorable coffee truck which actually parks in the little side alley just by the exit from the station - it’s the most fantastic little hideaway to find for a latte and a little break.

A Day In New York:

Okay, so let’s talk a little about my “average day” here! Let’s say it’s Thursday…I love starting the day with a hearty, traditional breakfast at one of those New York-style delis – always a great combination of scrambled eggs, bacon and bagels - with a glass of iced pink lemonade of course! I then make my way through Central Park to my Ballet classes – always makes a change from my usual Derbyshire green and is very inspirational to dance right near all those historical sights. It is also amazing just how many dancers are out and about in Central Park. I love seeing everyone warming up and practising, even with so many distractions going on around them – the joggers, the squirrels…sometimes I can’t help but stop and join in - if only for a moment or two – everyone smiles at you and welcomes you in. You know it is truly a community of people, these dancers of the City.

From there I often go into the city – always take the Metro of course! I love to try new restaurants and enjoy all the cultural treats NYC offers, and you really get the city vibe down there, everyone seems to have their own unique sense of style – it really gives me inspiration. I might get some new shoes or have a coffee and do a little people watching – New York truly is a kaleidoscope of humanity. I think what I love most about NYC is how accepting and kind people are; it’s truly inspiring, and as you know, being a “Pink Tutu Girl” isn’t always easy! Sometimes you just have to embrace being different.

Then of course, I take a long stroll to see what’s new on the street – I do love to explore and always find something inspiring! - whether that is the street performers, a cute new shop, an exciting exhibition or a fabulous new dance troupe practising for a show, I always make time for exploration. I always feel refreshed by seeing all the inspiring things the city has to offer and to then end the day with a relaxing drink by the fountain at Lincoln Center – it is so calm there and the twinkling fairy lights above make the atmosphere almost magical!

A Word From the Tutu-Wearing Traveler

It's amazing how much life there is here in New York, in each and every one of its inhabitants and all those who come to experience it, and each day just gets better! The city has got a really special vibe – it’s one of those places you just fall in love with. The hustle and bustle of life, and the determination and self-belief people radiate are so inspiring - something that definitely inspires my pink tutu passion!

It's Always Pink Tutu Time

And guess what? The pink tutu trend continues to bloom! This week, I’ve seen people wearing pink tutus in the most unexpected places – walking their dogs in Central Park, grabbing coffee on their way to work, and even strutting down Broadway. That’s my aim: to show the world the magic that happens when you put on a pink tutu and dance like no one's watching – you bring out a joyful side to people, you see the smiles on their faces, you see their hearts dance alongside your own, you become a ray of sunshine in their day - even if only for a few fleeting seconds.

Until next time, my lovely darlings, stay twirling and never forget that every day is a pink tutu day!

Love, Emma
