Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, and oh my, what a weekend I've had in New York City! Honestly, this trip has been absolutely spectacular – everything a pink-loving tutu-wearing ballerina could ever dream of. I swear, New York really is the city that never sleeps, and trust me, neither did I! ?
This weekend kicked off with a delicious brunch at my favourite spot in the city, The Smith. The Eggs Benedict was a work of art, and I couldn't resist pairing it with a pink mimosa. Don't worry, I haven't been indulging too much – a tutu requires a certain level of finesse, and a tight, flexible waistline!
After brunch, it was time for some retail therapy, because let's face it, no trip to New York is complete without a shopping spree! ?️ I've got a major weakness for vintage finds, and this weekend I struck gold in SoHo. Picture this: a divine vintage dress with a Peter Pan collar and a skirt that would make any tutu blush, all for a steal! Let's just say, my suitcase is already bursting with potential outfit ideas.
Now, as much as I love shopping, my true passion is ballet! And let me tell you, the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center is an experience you simply have to see for yourself. It's like magic! I swear, these dancers can make you forget about the everyday stresses of life, simply by the way they move their bodies with such grace and precision. It was absolutely awe-inspiring.
Speaking of inspiration, the whole city was buzzing this weekend! This Saturday marked the opening of the "Ballet and the Body" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. Now, I know what you’re thinking: Ballet? In a modern art museum? Hear me out! This show is seriously captivating! They've brought together photography, sculpture, painting, and performance pieces, all exploring the body's role in dance and how it's transformed and interpreted in art. It's been such a joy to see how this timeless art form transcends centuries and mediums.
I also stumbled upon a gorgeous new pink tulle shop in Brooklyn – I just had to pop in for a browse. Needless to say, I came out with enough fabric to make my whole family pink tutu dresses, if they’ll have me. (We're still working on that one!)
Evenings in New York City were a whirlwind of excitement. One evening I caught the amazing "Hamilton" musical! Let’s just say, the hip-hop version of the founding fathers certainly had a lot more pizazz than the boring old history lessons I had to sit through in Derbyshire! It’s so fun to see all the different types of art and entertainment the city offers, and they even have shows that are tutu-themed! I actually saw a hilarious comedy called "Tutu's and Tantrums" at the 78th Street Theatre that sent the whole audience into hysterics.
Of course, I couldn't possibly be in New York and not indulge in some fabulous street performances! Just imagine: bustling city streets filled with the sounds of live music, colourful performers showcasing their talents, and the delicious smell of food vendors – the quintessential New York experience!
As for getting around, I love taking the subway. Seriously, where else in the world can you hop on a train, jam out to music with people from all walks of life, and arrive at your destination in no time at all? The hustle and bustle is what makes New York so exciting. And let me tell you, travelling with my signature pink tutu doesn't go unnoticed! Everywhere I went, I turned heads, and people even offered compliments about how chic I looked. Who knew the subway could be a fashion runway? I just can't help myself; wearing a tutu makes me feel confident and beautiful!
Speaking of confidence, one thing I’ve realized during this trip is that every girl is a ballerina at heart. Whether you're waltzing down the streets of SoHo, or pirouetting around a museum exhibition, everyone has a little bit of inner ballerina waiting to break free. I am living proof! When I twirl through New York City, wearing my favourite pink tutu, I feel free, strong and most importantly, inspired. You can too, I’m confident of it! So go on, find your own inner ballerina!
