Hello, my dearest Tutu Tribe! It’s Monday morning, and you know what that means? It’s time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Blog NYC! The sun is shining brightly here in New York City, and even the concrete feels vibrant this morning. The city that never sleeps is bustling with energy, and I, your resident Pink Tutu Princess, am ready to take it all in!
A Derby Girl in the City
As many of you know, I'm a Derbyshire girl at heart. We all have our own special little corner of the world, don’t we? Derbyshire holds a special place in my heart, but NYC has definitely stolen a bit of it too. Every time I step onto the platform at Penn Station and inhale that heady mix of freshly-baked pastries, the scent of blooming flowers from street vendors, and that signature New York whiff of exhaust, my heart skips a beat! It’s intoxicating.
From The Underground to the Big Screen!
Last week was jam-packed! As always, I started my week with some ballet class. A little twirl never hurt anyone, right? My instructor's been teaching us a new piece, and it's quite challenging but I love the rhythm and how it builds the choreography.
Speaking of rhythm, I was completely captivated by La Boheme at the Metropolitan Opera on Tuesday. The music was beautiful, the staging absolutely stunning. I even managed to sneak in a little twirl myself during the standing ovation! And can we talk about the costumes? Simply divine! The details, the fabrics, the colours… chef's kiss The performance was a true feast for the senses!
My Fashion Finds
A day trip to SoHo for some serious window shopping on Wednesday, was another highlight. New York’s streets are a walking runway for all sorts of exciting fashion, don’t you agree? I saw so many unique styles – from classic trench coats with bold pops of colour, to whimsical floral patterns, and a few cheeky Pink Tutu appearances here and there! I even discovered a new shop on Mott Street that specialises in upcycled clothing - all those fabulous vintage fabrics transformed into one-of-a-kind designs! Needless to say, I indulged in a little retail therapy (with a pink tutu, of course!), and I'll be sharing my new wardrobe additions on Instagram later.
Let's Go to the Theatre!
Thursday night was all about theatre, with an absolutely brilliant show on Broadway. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was simply hysterical! The comedic timing was spot-on, the music had me tapping my feet, and the costumes were gorgeous. It was so uplifting and brought a smile to my face.
And after all that laughter, I treated myself to a delicious dinner at an Italian restaurant. The aroma of freshly baked bread alone is enough to make anyone happy, but the lasagna? Oh my, I’m still thinking about it! Paired with a crisp Italian red wine, it was simply heavenly.
Friday's Ballet Bliss
Friday, however, was back to my ballet roots! I took a Masterclass in ballet at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and wow! The instructors were exceptional. We tackled some incredibly demanding exercises, but I felt so energised after class! The other dancers were such an inspiration, their passion for movement is contagious! And the sheer joy of dancing together? It makes my soul sing!
My Metro Journey
A journey on the New York subway can be quite a chaotic adventure at times! It's a world unto itself, teeming with diverse personalities and hidden gems! Last weekend, I was heading from my dance studio in Harlem down to SoHo to try a new smoothie spot. There’s nothing quite like discovering hidden treasures in the city! I even managed to get a coveted window seat!
Pink Tutu Power!
One of the greatest joys of being in NYC, though, is encountering fellow pink tutu enthusiasts. On my way back from the ballet, I stumbled upon a small gathering in a park! It was like a Pink Tutu picnic! There were little girls, grown-up girls, even some brave gents, all decked out in tutus. It was so much fun to see how this simple garment, the pink tutu, unites people of all ages! That's the magic of it, wouldn't you say? It’s more than just an item of clothing; it's a symbol of freedom, expression, and joy. It's about celebrating the little girl in all of us, the one who loves to spin, twirl, and dream.
A Little About Today...
Today, I'm heading out for a stroll through Central Park. There’s nothing quite like a peaceful walk amidst the vibrant greenery of this iconic space. Perhaps I'll find inspiration for a new Pink Tutu outfit while soaking up the sun! Maybe I'll even join a flash mob... One can dream! Of course, no visit to the Big Apple is complete without catching a few more Broadway shows this week. There are so many fascinating productions lined up that I just can't resist!
And on Wednesday, I have a special appointment: a photoshoot! I'm finally getting professional photos of all my favourite pink tutu ensembles! Can't wait to share those with you soon.
But for now, it's time to head out and conquer this magnificent city! This week, I challenge you all to embrace the playful, fearless, and imaginative side of you! Go for a twirl, try something new, and remember to wear a pink tutu at every opportunity!
Stay tuned, my tutu-loving darlings! More fun and adventure to come, and as always, happy twirling!
With all my love,
Emma
