Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1717 - A New York City Fairy Tale!

Hello my gorgeous little ballerinas! It's Monday morning and you know what that means? It's time for another fabulous Pink Tutu Blog NYC post! This week I'm bursting with excitement about my latest trip to the Big Apple! I arrived on Thursday afternoon and it's been a whirlwind of glitter, grace, and yes, of course, plenty of pink!

This trip, I'm embracing a true New York spirit – the one that pulsates with energy and adventure. So far, it’s been all about finding hidden gems in the city that never sleeps.

Now, my dearest lovelies, you know me - I'm always up for a challenge! My goal this trip is to see if I can make all of New York embrace a touch of pink tutu magic. Let’s just say that getting everyone from Broadway dancers to Wall Street suits into a twirling pink tutu might just be my biggest mission yet!

Thursday: Touching Down in New York

You wouldn’t believe the chaos I encountered at JFK. Honestly, my lovely tutu was squished in my bag, and the only pink in sight was the flamingo print on the back of a rather stressed-out woman's carry-on. I had a tiny pink panic moment. Would it ever stop raining pink? (My thoughts run a bit dramatic when I’m travelling, can you tell?)

But then, there he was - a sweet old chap in a crisp suit, a dapper pink bowtie (my heart soared!). “Excuse me, ma’am,” he said, “perhaps this will make you smile.” And with that, he presented me with a freshly-picked pink carnation. My heart skipped a beat. This was New York already pulling at my pink-tinted strings.

After a delicious (pink, naturally) smoothie in the airport and a breezy taxi ride (they don't call it the Big Apple for nothing, eh?), I was in my beautiful hotel room overlooking the city! This time I chose a stylish and vibrant hotel in the East Village. The perfect launchpad for my adventures, wouldn’t you agree?

Friday: The Ballet Buzz!

My first full day in New York? Of course it was about the ballet! The city buzzed with excitement as I prepared for my first class at The School of American Ballet. My nerves were jangling with a delicious blend of anticipation and wonder! You see, even a pink tutu princess needs to brush up on her pliés every now and then. I can’t let the skills get rusty!

The school was everything I hoped it would be - a haven for ballerinas and a symphony of grace. I felt like a little kid again, but a pink-loving grown-up with a pink-frosted donut in hand. The lesson was so inspiring and challenging! I found myself stretching and swirling, getting back in the swing of things. The teachers were wonderful, they even commented on my bright pink tutu (and my equally dazzling pink lipstick, of course!) You just can’t avoid a splash of pink in a pink tutu world.

Later that afternoon, I treated myself to a delicious meal of pink grapefruit salad and a decadent slice of pink frosted cake at a quaint cafe. And you guessed it – it wasn't even intentional! It’s my new rule - the world conspires to offer me pink delights.

The evening was spent soaking up the magic of Broadway. Imagine, a glittering pink dress in a sea of shimmering sequins – swoon! The energy of a live theatre performance is electrifying. Even though I wasn't performing this time, the dance steps still sang within me, and I felt an irresistible urge to leap onto the stage.

Saturday: Exploring the Metropolis

It was Saturday morning in New York City and my plan? To soak up the beauty of this incredible city – a true feast for the eyes! You know, even a little ballerina needs to walk around sometimes! I spent the morning wandering through Central Park, marveling at the lush greenery and spotting my favourite shade of pink in the cherry blossoms that were still blooming. They are the colour of dreams, darling!

A highlight of the day was discovering this hidden vintage store just off the beaten track, in Chelsea. It's called “Pretty in Pink”, and I swear, they were waiting for my arrival with an array of frills, tulle, and, oh, the sparkle! A blush pink vintage gown made its way into my bag - I simply couldn’t resist!

And you wouldn't believe the delicious meal I had for lunch. I've had an afternoon tea experience that included finger sandwiches, homemade scones and the most beautiful selection of pink-coloured cakes and petit fours I’ve ever seen. The pastries were crafted by the most incredible patissier. Even the sugar plums were pink! And this time, it wasn’t by accident!

That evening I explored the vibrant arts scene of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, stumbling upon a fabulous street performance of hip-hop and ballet fusion! Honestly, the world has truly gone pink-tutu mad – even in New York! The dancers’ moves were so fluid, and, let's be honest, everyone was captivated.

The vibrant art and the pulsating beat of the city combined to create a dazzling symphony of pink tutu vibes. It was exhilarating! And a little bit overwhelming. You've probably guessed by now, New York doesn’t let you sleep.

Sunday: The Magic of the Met

What better way to end my New York adventure than by a visit to the majestic Metropolitan Museum of Art! There is something truly special about this grand old place, so much history, art, beauty. But even the most venerable of institutions couldn’t avoid a pink tutu. There was even a sculpture by a famous artist who used a pink tutu in a controversial yet fascinating work. The museum had clearly absorbed my passion!

I explored each floor with childlike curiosity, but a pink tutu girl always wants more, doesn’t she? There was the exhibit on fashion – oh, the pink feathers, silk gowns, and daring outfits that filled me with inspiration. I simply had to get a photo of the stunning pink-hued gown on display. There's something special about the Met – it's as though it’s filled with magic waiting to be discovered. And even though I only found one pink tutu sculpture, I'm confident I planted a pink seed for the future.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, I decided to take a relaxing boat ride around the city. You wouldn't believe it, darling – the entire sky was ablaze with fiery orange and pinks, almost as though it was designed to celebrate my time here. And to celebrate me!

The views were truly stunning! The reflection of the city lights shimmering across the water was quite mesmerizing. I spent the rest of the evening reflecting on all the fun I had over the weekend and enjoying the vibrant, bustling nightlife of New York City. I am reminded why this city is the melting pot of cultures, where all colours come together, where individuality blossoms.

A New York City Pink Tutu Fairy Tale

Oh, I could tell you more - more about the hidden alleys, the street art, the delightful cafés, and the endless stores that seemed to beckon me to step inside. It was simply overwhelming.

My dearest ballerina lovelies, I hope you enjoyed following my little adventure. What an incredible week it has been! My journey, my quest, and a sprinkle of magic in this extraordinary city. There's so much pink around us, isn't there? In every colour, every sound, and even in the smallest of moments. This trip has just reinforced that feeling for me. The pinkness of life. It's waiting to be discovered – whether you are in Derbyshire or New York.

So keep twirling and spreading the pink! This city certainly embraced the idea, and I'll bet your city will too.

Until next Monday, darling ballerinas! Keep twirling!

Much love, Emma xo
