This week, I was absolutely bursting with excitement. Not only was it a gorgeous summer's day in New York City (and that glorious sunshine, just swoon!), but it was also the anniversary of the iconic “New York, New York” song! I just had to get that feeling into my heart, and honestly, what better way to do it than by dancing in Times Square? ?
That’s right, my dear tutu-tastic readers, yours truly went and twirled in the heart of it all, rocking my iridescent, powder pink tutu (naturally!). It was everything I imagined and more - a fusion of neon lights, honking taxis, and a dash of magic. Just me, my pink tulle, and the glorious chaos of this amazing city. ✨
Adventures in Ballet, Broadway & Beyond
Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without immersing myself in its incredible arts scene. My week started off with a bang, a whirlwind tour of the renowned New York City Ballet!
You just can’t beat the sheer talent, the precision, and the story those dancers bring to life. The atmosphere was absolutely electric – the hush as the music started, the collective gasp during the dramatic finale… pure magic, really. Honestly, every time I witness a performance like this, my heart just sings! ?
Following that magnificent evening, I hit up Broadway - and what a sight to behold! Glittering theatres, buzzing crowds, and just this feeling of raw excitement. And that’s before you even get to the performances themselves!
You wouldn’t believe the show I saw – Wicked! Now, I know you're all thinking, “Emma, surely you’ve seen it before?!” And you'd be right… but there’s just something special about seeing it in the Big Apple! The whole atmosphere just felt so charged, with so much vibrant energy and sheer brilliance. I was spellbound, absolutely mesmerized by the talent on stage. ?
A Whirlwind of Fashion and Fun
Speaking of “charged energy,” I must tell you about my shopping expedition to Fifth Avenue! ? This week, I discovered a must-visit designer boutique. Imagine, my dears, rows and rows of beautifully-designed handbags – all in stunning shades of pink! (Honestly, I'm telling you, a girl can never have enough pink, can she? ?)
You might say I went a little crazy in there, because frankly, I did! A few purchases were definitely in order - after all, I had to add a touch of New York glamour to my ever-growing tutu wardrobe. And, let’s be real, every dancer needs a beautiful pink clutch to keep all their important accessories close at hand! ?
Subway Adventures & Culinary Delights
To balance all those high-fashion escapades, I decided to immerse myself in the true New York experience. What does that mean? Well, it’s definitely about taking the subway – the real, buzzing, pulsating heart of this city. ?
Honestly, even navigating those iconic underground stations was a mini adventure for me. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it can be a bit crowded (even in a pink tutu!), but the sense of excitement is palpable, just like the smell of fresh pastries in those fantastic bakeries tucked away on side streets. ?
And oh, my dear readers, New York food is unforgettable. It’s definitely a symphony for the senses. Spicy delights from bustling street food vendors, gourmet burgers oozing with flavours, and endless streams of fresh, seasonal fruit. Every bite was a sensory adventure. ?
But nothing, I tell you, nothing, could match the feeling of eating a perfectly-baked slice of New York cheesecake under the glow of the city lights – the true essence of a blissful night in New York. ?
