Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 1731 – A Ballerina's Whirl Through the Big Apple! ??

Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends!

It’s Monday, and that means a brand-new Pink Tutu Blog post is fluttering its way to your screens! Today, I'm buzzing with excitement to share my latest adventures in the dazzling metropolis of New York City. My journey here, as always, was made possible by my favourite pastime - performing ballet! It’s just as much a passion as twirling around in a vibrant pink tutu, and the funds I raise from these shows enable me to chase my dreams in the most wonderful way imaginable!

As you know, I’m from Derbyshire, England, where the green rolling hills are beautiful, but nothing quite compares to the vibrancy of the Big Apple! I always say, if you’re feeling the need for a little magic, New York is the place to be. It's a city where dreams are chased, sequins sparkle, and every street corner promises a new adventure.

This week’s schedule has been jam-packed with a fabulous mix of balletic beauty, dazzling fashion, and some much-needed metro rides (because honestly, navigating the underground here is a whirlwind in itself!).

Let me fill you in on every glorious detail, darling!

Monday:

The week started with a visit to The School of American Ballet. My day was filled with learning new routines and enjoying the wonderful community vibe of this esteemed institution. The school is known for its prestigious reputation, training countless professional dancers, so it was truly a privilege to learn amongst such talent! Oh, and I even spotted a little dancer wearing a blush pink tutu (a promising start to the week, wouldn't you agree?)

After class, I couldn't resist indulging in a spot of retail therapy at Bloomingdale's! The clothes were to die for, and I ended up adding a beautiful dusky rose pink cashmere cardigan and a sequined silver clutch to my wardrobe.

In the evening, I took in a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake at Lincoln Center. The artistry was simply magnificent - the dancers’ grace, the costumes’ elegance, the story's poignant drama… chef's kiss!

Tuesday:

On Tuesday, I found myself immersed in a delightful ballet class at Steps on Broadway with the incredibly talented dancer, Sarah Lane. I’m not sure if my heart was doing cartwheels or pirouettes by the time the session finished, it was that wonderful! This incredible experience allowed me to soak up some inspiring technique from one of the greats – something I’ll certainly be taking back to my Derbyshire studio!

For my lunchtime break, I indulged in a delicious New York-style slice of pizza. Oh, that melting mozzarella! Pure comfort food!

In the afternoon, I took a little detour to The Met (the Metropolitan Museum of Art). They have a superb collection of impressionist paintings. But most importantly, there was this delightful exhibition of Parisian fashion - Oh la la! – where the designs of the 19th century brought to life with intricate fabric and exquisite detailing… oh, if only I could wear them! (Except I might be a tad short for the elaborate gowns!)

Wednesday:

Wednesday's highlight was, hands down, visiting Baryshnikov Arts Center. If you've ever been captivated by dance, you know the name Mikhail Baryshnikov. To think this man has made such a profound contribution to ballet - well, let's just say I'm officially fangirling! I saw the most exquisite ballet showcase - "Echoes of a Dream" - featuring a talented cast and a modern yet haunting choreography.

Later, to celebrate the brilliant performances I witnessed, I enjoyed a late-night cocktail at The Rainbow Room. A top floor bar with breath-taking panoramic city views. I can assure you, nothing feels quite like raising a glass to life whilst the city twinkles below you.

Thursday:

It wouldn’t be a New York trip without a quintessential Broadway experience! Thursday saw me witnessing Wicked on Broadway - and believe me, every single moment was a delightful spectacle! The music, the sets, the costumes...and of course, those magical shoes. A girl can dream!

My favourite part? The beautiful ballad "Defying Gravity" - I swear my hair stood on end and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Afterwards, I indulged in a delectable meal at Atera, where the plates are a masterpiece of flavours and aesthetics. Honestly, even the napkins were pretty! The culinary world of New York certainly does not disappoint.

Friday:

Friday dawned bright and breezy! Today, I treated myself to a tour of Radio City Music Hall. What a venue! Just imagining the world-class performers, the glitzy sets, the elaborate shows… oh, it’s such an iconic part of New York! And, of course, a highlight was meeting the Rockettes – so much talent and joy radiating from these wonderful ladies. Their performance was pure magic – those synchronized routines were incredible!

Later in the day, I joined the Fashion Week crowd at the Brooklyn Museum for a fashion exhibit called "Reimagining the Body: Black Fashion Designers of New York". The collection was beautifully curated - celebrating creativity, body positivity, and highlighting Black artists' talent. You could tell it was a passion project that deeply resonated with everyone there.

In the evening, I made my way to Central Park for a leisurely stroll. Even on a busy Friday night, the park is still so serene and peaceful!

Saturday:

Saturday marked the perfect excuse to indulge my love of New York City style. I did a bit of exploring, starting with the Guggenheim Museum. Their modern art displays really got me thinking outside the box - quite an experience!

Then, a short hop over to The Strand - a haven for all things literature. I just have to admit - it’s easy to spend a whole afternoon wandering through its endless bookshelves! I managed to pick up a beautifully illustrated volume on the history of ballet and a fun new novel for my upcoming journey.

To end the day on a sweet note, I savoured a delicious strawberry cheesecake at Junior’s Restaurant on Broadway - what better way to soak in the city atmosphere?

Sunday:

Sunday's all about indulging in a leisurely breakfast - I recommend the blueberry pancakes at Clinton Street Bakery, oh my goodness, so delicious! - followed by a wander around Soho for a little dose of trendy boutique inspiration. The vintage finds here are always a delight to discover. I picked up a quirky scarf, a pastel-toned bag, and a chic pink ribbon for my tutu!

The perfect ending to a whirlwind weekend!

Travel tip for the week: The subway can be daunting, but remember it's part of the adventure! If you're ever feeling a little overwhelmed, pop some earphones in, find your favourite upbeat music and picture yourself twirling in a tutu - you'll be able to conquer the New York City metro in no time!

A Message from my Pink Tutu Corner:

And, before I go, let's all remember: Pink tutus are more than just a fashion statement. They’re a symbol of joy, a reminder to embrace life with a graceful swirl, and an invitation to tap into the inner dancer that lives within us all. Whether it’s on the streets of New York City or right in your own home, let's continue to spread the tutu-love and inspire each other to dance, twirl, and be fabulous.

Until next Monday, keep shining!

Love always, Emma ?
