Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #1746 - Monday 2028-11-20 - She Danced in New York City!

Hello darlings!

It's Monday, which means it's time for another New York City adventure from your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger! This week I'm brimming with excitement – I've just returned from a whirlwind weekend of ballet, Broadway, and endless New York sparkle. Let me tell you, my dear readers, New York truly lives up to its nickname, The Big Apple!

But before I share all the juicy details of my weekend escapades, I wanted to start with a confession. Sometimes, I get so caught up in the vibrant, pulsating energy of this magnificent city that I almost forget about the magic that exists outside of the city limits. So, for a bit of a change of pace this week, I thought I’d take you all on a little journey back to my roots.

Derbyshire Dreamin’

I recently had a weekend visit back to my home county of Derbyshire, England, and oh my goodness, it was simply delightful! I was welcomed back with open arms by my family, and it was so wonderful to spend time with them. But what truly took my breath away was the countryside itself.

The rolling hills painted in vibrant autumnal colours, the quaint little villages with their thatched roofs and cozy pubs, and the crisp, fresh air - it was a true escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. I even indulged in a spot of traditional Derbyshire oatcake, a simple yet utterly delicious treat, that I haven't tasted since childhood.

This visit made me appreciate even more the incredible world of ballet and performing arts. Seeing young children twirling with delight during their dance classes, taking pride in their craft, reminds me of why I started my journey with pink tutus all those years ago. I mean, what’s better than watching the twinkle in a little girl's eyes when she steps into her first pair of ballet shoes?

But back to New York, darling!

Back to the Big Apple

After my countryside sojourn, I returned to New York feeling invigorated and ready to take on the week with my usual dose of pink tutu-inspired energy! I was buzzing for my packed weekend agenda – and as usual, ballet played a pivotal role!

Dancing Under the Stars

The weekend kicked off with an incredible outdoor ballet performance in Central Park! It was a breath of fresh air to enjoy a stunning evening of classical ballet, surrounded by twinkling lights and the vast, beautiful park backdrop. The dancers moved with such grace and elegance, their tutus billowing like clouds in the soft evening breeze. It was truly an unforgettable experience!

You might be wondering, how can one even begin to think about venturing out into a bustling city park, especially during those first cold nights of the New York autumn? It was a brave move, I know.

However, it wasn't all chilly breeze and stars, my dear friends. Luckily, the performance was on a beautiful, almost balmy night – that perfect time in New York when the summer humidity has finally passed and the autumn chill hasn't fully set in yet. The perfect time for an outdoor ballet adventure, of course!

Let's not forget the most magical touch to this particular evening: a sprinkling of fluffy white snowflakes started falling from the sky during the final act, catching the light like glittering diamonds. It was a sight I'll cherish forever, making me think, ‘well, it doesn’t get much better than this!'

Broadway Bound

And of course, no trip to New York City is complete without a dose of Broadway magic! I was lucky enough to get tickets to see the smash hit musical, ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ at the Majestic Theatre, a true Broadway legend! The set design was exquisite, the costumes spectacular, and the performance absolutely electrifying! I’ll admit it was a touch difficult for me to sit still, though, my legs were positively twitching to join the cast onstage in my pink tutu!

The Power of Pink (and Plenty of Coffee!)

You'll be pleased to know my friends that my love for pink continued to flourish in New York! I spent an entire afternoon indulging in a delightful pink tea party at a charming tearoom in the West Village, complete with dainty pink cakes and delicious Earl Grey tea. And what's a pink tutu blogger's ultimate indulgence? A visit to the Tiffany's flagship store, of course! (But you didn't hear that from me.)

Speaking of indulgence, the amount of coffee I managed to consume this weekend was rather extraordinary. But in fairness, I'm talking about high quality coffee shops, and I'm a strong believer that a bit of caffeine can be a truly essential fuel for a ballerina on the go. The power of pink is definitely boosted with a shot of espresso. I know all my ballerina fans agree.

Metro Madness

You’re probably thinking that my weekend adventure in New York had to include some fabulous outfits, darling! Absolutely, I had to showcase my pink tutu flair! However, this being New York, the true test of my ballerina fashion sense lies in the art of mastering metro travel!

Navigating the subway with a twirling skirt? No problem, I've mastered the art of strategic outfit choices! I wear my tutus with a delicate but comfortable pair of ballet flats – I think pink ballerina shoes definitely complement any look in the city. Plus, it means I can flit about like a graceful, elegant dancer, even when amidst a rush hour crowd.

To be completely honest, travelling by metro, even in New York, can be somewhat nerve-wracking for someone who loves dancing. But then I see a glimmer of excitement in someone's eyes when they see a pink tutu on the metro, and then it's all worthwhile.

I must confess though, even though I navigate the subway like a true New Yorker, I still occasionally feel the urge to burst into a spontaneous pirouette on the platform! Luckily, I keep that urge firmly under control, but there are moments, like those bright neon lights of the subway stations, or the rhythm of the arriving trains, that really do call to the dancer in me.

Final Thoughts, Fashion & Next Week’s Blog Post

This past weekend has truly recharged my creativity and inspired me to keep spreading my pink tutu magic. Oh my dear friends, it’s not easy being a pink tutu ballerina. There's definitely a challenge in being able to adapt your life for travel, shopping, eating and the constant quest for inspiration in the fashion and performing arts world, and I don’t shy away from the hard work.

As a new week dawns, I'm already looking forward to new adventures. This week’s blog is set to be about the city’s magical winter illuminations – I simply can’t wait! You can be sure I will be taking you along for the ride.

Keep those tutu dreams flowing!

Love, Emma xx
