Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1750 - A Tutuful December in the City that Never Sleeps ?✨

Hello darlings! Emma here, and I'm writing to you from the heart of the Big Apple, a city brimming with more sparkle than a sequined tutu! I'm finally here, my feet tingling with excitement, for a week-long adventure that I know will be filled with glamour, good food, and a sprinkle of pink tutu magic, of course.

You might wonder, what's a ballerina doing in the Big Apple in the middle of December, amidst all the holiday hustle and bustle? Well, this little bird, despite her predilection for sunshine and summer, simply cannot resist the siren call of the New York theatre scene this time of year!

The stage is about to light up with holiday shows that would make even the most jaded soul hum a carol. The ballet world, in particular, has an array of treats lined up, and I wouldn't miss it for all the gingerbread cookies in the world (though, let's be honest, I might still try to squeeze a few in between performances!).

And it’s not just the ballet, darlings! Every corner of New York shimmers with holiday magic – dazzling decorations adorning each street, the tantalising scent of cinnamon and gingerbread swirling in the air, and, of course, the spirit of giving making everyone's heart a little lighter. But don’t think for a minute that I'm sacrificing style for the holiday spirit! There are some absolutely sensational Christmas displays and shop windows I can't wait to snap pictures of for you – I think my new pink faux fur coat, purchased on a spontaneous jaunt to Harrods last week, might be just the thing for the occasion!

So, let's dive into what’s making my little ballerina heart sing this week…

The Great White Way of Ballet:

This week, I'm all about soaking up the dazzling array of theatrical delights in New York City! Here are the absolute highlights I plan to catch, my darling readers, each a gem on the glittering crown of the Big Apple's theatre scene:

- New York City Ballet’s Nutcracker: It’s simply unmissable. The exquisite costumes, the twinkling set design, and of course, the exquisite dancers. I hear the sugarplum fairy is looking particularly ethereal this year! Let's be honest, who can resist a good ballet production of the beloved Tchaikovsky masterpiece?

- "The Greatest Showman" On Ice: Imagine, darling, an unforgettable theatrical experience featuring the unforgettable tunes of "The Greatest Showman", set to a dazzling display of ice-skating and performance art! Who could resist such an enticing spectacle? I am especially excited to see the spectacular ice skating – I’m dreaming of taking some skating lessons once I get back to Derbyshire!

- American Ballet Theatre: "Giselle" - The Final Encore

There’s simply nothing more magical than a farewell performance, particularly one with such enduring magic as "Giselle". It’s like saying goodbye to an old friend, the air electric with both melancholy and exhilaration! It's a performance I’ll remember for a long time – I may even squeeze in another dance class at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre to soak up the ambiance and marvel at their renowned dancers.

Speaking of ambiance… oh, New York! This city simply pulses with energy and life! The streets are buzzing, and I simply can't get enough of the infectious optimism and spirit that permeates this city. Each morning, I’m ready to start the day with the bustling crowds boarding the subway. Yes, dear readers, my trusty underground transport - the subway – remains a favorite method for exploring! There’s simply nothing like it – you could be in a swanky boutique moments ago, and then the next, you are surrounded by everyday New Yorkers navigating their bustling morning routines. And for the ballerina in me, it's quite a bit of entertainment all its own – imagine watching people waltz their way across the train, holding their shopping bags, clutching their coffee mugs. It’s like a live action ballet production set in motion! It’s like you have a chance to be a fly on the wall, to get a little sneak peek into a microcosm of the lives of everyday New Yorkers. It’s fascinating. Of course, I can’t help but sneakily make notes in my notebook, dreaming of how to incorporate these spontaneous vignettes into my own routines - or, more likely, create a whole ballet about the underground experience, a veritable ode to the hustle and bustle!

Speaking of ballet inspiration, my darling readers, let me share a little secret: my mission in life is to spread the pink tutu joy and to get everyone, everywhere, twirling in a pink tutu. And what better place to sow the seeds of tutu-ful fun than New York City, with its neverending energy, endless possibilities, and boundless spirit?
And if that happens to include stopping by some of the city’s best stores – well, that's simply part of my dedication to spreading joy and tutu-full cheer!

And as it happens, this trip has brought me right to the heart of a glorious display of tutus – in fact, it’s an actual Tutu Shop, right on the famed Fifth Avenue! As soon as I saw its gorgeous storefront display, I felt the tingle of inspiration! This shop was filled with gorgeous tulle gowns, tutus, and leotards, as far as the eye could see. My pink heart was about to burst.

While I couldn’t exactly drag myself away from the shop, the promise of delicious and truly exquisite fare (and I really do mean that) in the form of a "High Tea" experience at one of the city’s finest tea rooms beckoned. After all, what would be a New York City trip without a luxurious high tea experience?

There was so much to explore – the elaborate sandwiches, the delicate pastries, the rich teas, all laid out in beautiful porcelain plates, were like an artistic masterpiece. I confess I indulged in two pieces of cake and an éclair!

But enough of me, darling. I promise you, the best stories are coming from my week-long New York City adventures.

From the Ballet Studio to the Shopping Streets:

So, what else can you expect to see this week? A new blog post with behind-the-scenes glimpses of the ballet studios, some must-visit locations and maybe even some tips on surviving the subway chaos while wearing a tutu! Stay tuned. But promise me, my lovelies, you'll make this week all the more fun – you'll join me in my tutu mission and wear a pink tutu sometime this week? Tag #PinkTutuNYC for a chance to have your tutu look featured.

Until next time, I leave you with a reminder: Life is a performance. Make every step a graceful pirouette. And don't forget to smile, it's the best accessory of all!

Stay glamorous,
Emma x
