#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2029-05-21: Twirling through the Big Apple! ??

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, and it's Monday which means it's time for another #PinkTutuBlogNYC post!

This week I'm bubbling with excitement after a whirlwind weekend in the most dazzling city in the world, New York City! This was my first trip to the Big Apple and, honestly, it lived up to every single expectation – and then some. You know me, I always say that life is a performance and what better stage than the iconic streets of New York City?

A Pink Tutu Princess's New York City Adventures

So, let's rewind to Friday morning, shall we? As I boarded the plane at East Midlands Airport, I had a pink feather boa wrapped around my neck, my trusty pink tutu under my blazer (because one must always be prepared for a impromptu performance), and an unashamedly giddy smile on my face. My dream of conquering New York City, tutu and all, was finally becoming a reality!

A Stylish Start at the Grand Central Terminal

Once we landed, the first thing I had to do was get to my hotel. You see, the journey is half the fun, isn't it? I chose the Metro as my mode of transportation - let's be honest, the underground is basically a ballet stage. The hustle and bustle of New Yorkers rushing to and fro is a captivating choreography in itself! I'd dressed for the occasion in my most glamorous pink-themed ensemble. My statement tutu was, of course, a shade of shimmering magenta. It was layered over a fluffy pink and silver sweater and finished with my trusty knee-high pink leather boots. This was a look made for the metro - picture the twirls! I found it utterly charming that everyone, from bankers to fashionistas, was staring and smiling at my vibrant entrance.

A Royal Treat at The Pierre

As we emerged from the subterranean realm into the bustling cityscape, we finally arrived at my destination, the magnificent Pierre Hotel. Now, this is a hotel fit for a ballerina princess! I just loved its vintage charm and old Hollywood glamour. I immediately felt a wave of excitement surge through me, ready for the weekend ahead!

Ballet Bliss: The Stars Shine Bright at The Metropolitan Opera

My main reason for coming to New York City, besides my love affair with pink tutus, of course, was to experience the ballet. Friday night was dedicated to a magical performance at the Metropolitan Opera. I have to confess, this was an actual bucket-list moment! You could feel the anticipation in the air as the audience took their seats. I had found the perfect outfit - a white, fluted tulle skirt, with a tiny touch of sparkle. Over this I had worn a simple black tank top, accented with my iconic pink tulle shrug! For footwear? Black sparkly pumps that shimmered under the theatre lights, of course! The ballet that night was a sublime spectacle! The dancers moved with effortless grace, their bodies telling stories of love and loss, triumph and despair. Every twirl, every leap, left me breathless with admiration. Seeing this performance in such a prestigious venue was something I will cherish forever.

The Big Apple Bites: Culinary Delights and Pink Parfaits

Being a Derbyshire girl at heart, my stomach wouldn’t allow me to be all 'work and no play', so we went in search of the culinary treasures that New York City is famed for. Saturday morning kicked off with a breakfast fit for a queen, complete with pancakes that were almost too pretty to eat - they were decorated with swirls of pink berry compote, and a touch of whipped cream! Then it was time for a delicious and pink lunch. We found a charming Parisian bistro called “The Pink Teacup” where we indulged in the most beautiful pink-hued plates of afternoon tea. From pink teacups filled with floral tea to delicate pink finger sandwiches, everything was an absolute dream. I'm dreaming of their decadent pink parfait, even as I type. And I know you want to know, yes, it involved an abundance of fresh strawberries! It’s certainly hard to stay fit when there are so many delicious temptations around, but a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do.

Fashion Fables: Bloomingdale's and a Dash of Pink Sparkle

As a ballet-loving girl, you'd never guess what was my favourite shopping spot in the Big Apple. It was a pink ballerina's dream come true – Bloomingdale's! The sheer vastness of the store is something I can still barely comprehend. I mean, I've never seen so many clothes in one place before in my life! I found everything in every colour under the rainbow - the place was a wonderland! There was a particularly amazing pink, fluffy dressing gown with sequins, I thought long and hard about buying it! Luckily, it was a little too flamboyant even for me! The best bit of my visit? The dress shop! Oh my heavens! My imagination went into overdrive – from elegant tulle skirts to sparkling sequined tops – I felt like Cinderella in a ballroom full of beautiful gowns! After a few hours (and let’s just say an overdraft I’m yet to explain to my bank manager!), I had picked out a new pink tulle tutu. I’ve always been one for adding to my tutu collection, haven't I? This new addition was made with shimmering lavender and turquoise lace – absolutely dreamy!

A Night of Ballet Street: Broadway with a Twist

And because life’s about more than ballet shows (even if it is the best bit!), I thought a show on Broadway would add a different flavour to the trip. We went to see “Steps to Nowhere,” an innovative dance theatre performance featuring elements of hip hop, breakdance, contemporary and street jazz. I was really blown away! I don't know if you've seen the show, darlings, but the sheer power and raw emotion they channelled through dance was just incredible. Afterward, we wandered the brightly lit streets. Broadway is so captivating at night, a vibrant melting pot of theatre-goers and tourists. It just felt electric! I felt I had truly absorbed the energy of New York City and I was absolutely giddy! I couldn't wait to take everything in and share my stories back home in Derbyshire.

A Farewell to the Big Apple

Sunday morning arrived far too quickly, as they always do, and my trip to New York City was nearing its end. Before leaving my room, I made sure I looked fabulous. This was no ordinary “going home” look. My new tutu became the focus, draped around my waist, and paired with a floaty floral top. I slipped into a pink-sequined vest and put on a new, brightly patterned silk scarf I’d found at the market, tied loosely around my head. That little extra dash of glitter never goes amiss does it, dears? As we took the metro back to JFK airport for the long journey back to England, I couldn’t help but smile. This had been a wonderful weekend, and it left me wanting more!

Pink Tutu Lessons from the City that Never Sleeps

My little heart is full. As I reflect on my journey through New York City, it's clear to me that there’s more to a pink tutu than just dancing and frills, although it’s certainly not missing any of that. There’s a playful and daring element of it, that allows me to see the world from a joyful, magical perspective. My trips are about finding the little pockets of fairytale beauty in the everyday hustle and bustle of life. It’s a reminder that a bit of twirling can bring magic into anyone’s life!

So there you have it, darlings, my #PinkTutuBlogNYC adventures for this week. New York City will always hold a special place in my heart, a city that inspires both ballet dreams and pink tulle visions!

Love and twirls,

Emma

P.S. Today is the 182nd birthday of American composer Stephen Foster! I've been a bit obsessed with his music all weekend, especially the catchy tunes like "Oh Susanna" and "Camptown Races". You’ve gotta give him props for such lovely tunes that bring back happy memories from my youth, even as a sophisticated ballerina with my head in the clouds!
