Pink Tutu Blog Paris - Post #183 - Saturday 2003-06-28: Paris in Pink!

Bonjour, darlings!

It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, reporting live from the City of Lights! This week, I’m swapping Derbyshire cobbled streets for Parisian charm, and it’s more magical than I could have ever imagined.

The journey on the Eurostar was pure bliss. Honestly, there’s something so luxurious about hurtling through the countryside at 300km/h! The plush seating, the onboard wifi, the fact I could slip into my comfy tutu without judgement… I was in my happy place.

First stop? Le Louvre, of course!

Stepping into this majestic building felt like stepping into a fairytale. Those magnificent statues, the vast echoing halls, and the sheer history oozing from every stone…it’s truly awe-inspiring! The most impressive piece, however? Hands down, the Venus de Milo. Now, this is a sculpture that could give any prima ballerina a run for their money – pure grace and elegance. I mean, just look at those curves! (Cue the Pink Tutu fangirl squeal).

And speaking of grace, it wouldn't be a true Parisian day without a little ballet! Luckily for me, this weekend’s performance at the Palais Garnier was a must-see. I snagged myself a ticket for "La Sylphide," a masterpiece by August Bournonville.

From graceful sylphs to extravagant costumes, it was simply divine!

Watching those ballerinas gliding across the stage in their billowing tutus – yes, darling, billowing tutus – made me want to don my pink and twirl right along with them. I’m not talking about those frumpy, drab ones, either! The sheer scale and elegance of the tutus were a feast for the eyes. And the story? A bittersweet romance with a supernatural twist. What's not to love?!

Of course, no Parisian adventure would be complete without a dose of retail therapy.

Shopping on the Champs-Élysées is literally a dream come true.

The atmosphere here is pure energy - everyone is stylish and vibrant, and there's a tangible excitement in the air. You just know something wonderful is about to happen. I confess, I picked up a few adorable Parisian hats, a sparkly pink scarf to complement my latest tutu, and a beautiful little ballet book with breathtaking illustrations of ballerinas.

Today's adventure brought me to Montmartre!

Climbing those charming steps, admiring the colourful buildings, breathing in the artistic energy of this iconic hill – this is the Paris I envisioned.

The views from the Sacré-Coeur Basilica were simply breathtaking – all of Paris stretched out beneath me like a breathtaking watercolour painting. It’s a feeling that's hard to explain, really, that sense of being at the very heart of something magical, surrounded by the energy and beauty of this incredible city.

So what's on the menu for the rest of my trip?

  • A romantic picnic by the Seine with a good book and a glass of French wine (and yes, darling, I'll be wearing a pink tutu!)
  • A tour of the magnificent Musée Rodin – you can't deny the timeless beauty of his work!
  • Exploring hidden Parisian corners and soaking up the magic of the City of Lights.

The one thing I love about travelling is that it inspires me.

From the stunning architecture and history, to the fashionable locals, and the incredible energy of this city – it’s fuel for the soul! My brain is bursting with ideas for my next tutu designs and my upcoming performance pieces. It truly feeds my passion!

Don't forget, darlings, the aim is to spread the pink tutu love far and wide! So let's all be like those Parisian swans, gracefully and effortlessly embodying all things chic and stylish. And remember, it’s never too late to embrace your inner ballerina!

Until next week, darling,

Emma x
