Pink Tutu Blog - Paris: Post 263 - Saturday 8th January 2005 - Exploring the City of Lights!

Bonjour mes amis! It's Emma here, reporting live from the most enchanting city in the world... Paris!

This week, my journey took me aboard the magnificent Eurostar. A carriage fit for a ballerina queen! It's like gliding on a cloud - even the announcements have a touch of Parisian charm. I mean, who wouldn't be mesmerized by a robotic voice proclaiming, "Please remain seated during the descent... until the doors have opened?" The sheer romanticism!

It feels as if I've stepped into one of my favourite books! Cobbled streets, cute cafes spilling out onto the pavement, and the aroma of freshly baked bread... My inner Francophile is absolutely giddy!

I spent yesterday in a blissful daze, taking in the city sights. We all know a good ballerina is never truly off-duty! So, even my exploring came with a side of ballet. You won't believe it, but the iconic Eiffel Tower played host to a performance by the amazing Ballet National de Marseille! They danced right on the structure! Imagine my delight - the stunning cityscape behind them, the beautiful dancers, the music floating through the air... perfection! It truly felt like a scene from a magical ballet film.

But of course, a trip to Paris would be incomplete without a little bit of shopping therapy. As I was swanning around the Galeries Lafayette, the world's largest department store, I couldn't help but wonder... would the Parisian shoppers think my tutu was too outlandish for a trip to the luxury fashion department? As you know, I never shy away from an outfit with a bold statement, and I couldn't resist donning my pink tulle for this little fashion escapade. And you know what? Not a single raised eyebrow! Every stylish Parisian I saw on my little journey was beautifully dressed - I must say I particularly adored the effortless chic, oh so French! My inner fashionista was in a pure state of joy, admiring the stunning creations and dreaming of twirling my way through the city, clad in something spectacular.

Today's plans include a little indulgence. After all, Parisian indulgence is an art form! The city is overflowing with delicious boulangeries, so Iā€™m on a quest to find the most exquisite pain au chocolat - there will definitely be pictures for the Pink Tutu Instagram, of course! Then, this evening, I have tickets to a ballet at the Palais Garnier. This breathtaking masterpiece of architectural grandeur was immortalized in the Phantom of the Opera (and was, rumour has it, the inspiration for the stunning Moulin Rouge)!

Paris is alive with the energy of theatre, and I can feel the excitement for the performance tonight buzzing around me. The Palais Garnier, oh, itā€™s almost like stepping back in time - all that ornate gold detailing and plush velvet, perfect for channeling that Victorian, "itā€™s all about the dress" aesthetic! I think it goes without saying that my pink tutu will be the perfect statement for this evening. After all, the theatre is the ultimate stage for ballet, and there's no better way to feel like a star than twirling under the magnificent chandeliers, basking in the warmth of the theatre. I can already see myself in the reflection of one of those majestic gold mirrors... the epitome of feminine charm, sparkling with a smile and the twinkle of a dancerā€™s spirit!

This whole Parisian adventure is already a fairytale! And my dear readers, you know what makes it even more enchanting? The people. From the smiling baker in the boulangerie to the friendly barista, everyone seems to embrace the Parisian spirit of ā€œjoie de vivreā€. Perhaps it's the romance, perhaps it's the beauty of the architecture, or maybe it's just the sheer amount of cheese (cheese is pretty darn magical!), but there's a certain je ne sais quoi to this city that makes you want to twirl in your most extravagant tutu, just for the joy of it!

Iā€™ve promised myself that, this evening, when the final curtain falls, I will stand in the Place des Vosges, and raise my arms towards the sky. Just like a ballerina taking her final bow. I can feel the passion for the arts surging through my veins, the sheer excitement, the endless possibilitiesā€¦ A Parisian adventure for the ages! I shall be back next Saturday, and hopefully youā€™ll join me for another peek into my Paris diary.

Au revoir!

Love,

Emma

# Fashion Tip from Emma

Speaking of outfits, today's outfit for a morning stroll through Paris (which ended up in the famous Galleries Lafayette, no less!) is one of my absolute favourites! It's a crisp, white cotton button-down shirt, a silky blush pink skirt and of course, a pink tutu - a simple yet classic combination, perfect for walking those Parisian cobbled streets. If I feel the chill, a cozy black cardigan comes to the rescue, and to top it off, a delicate chain necklace and simple pearl earrings finish off the look with Parisian charm. Remember, darling, when in doubt, a bit of pink goes a long way!

### Pink Tutu Inspiration of the Week: Ballet National de Marseille at the Eiffel Tower. Can you imagine performing ballet on such an iconic structure? I absolutely adore the way this company integrated the beautiful Parisian backdrop into their performance. Talk about an inspiration for dancers around the world!

### The Week's Playlist:

  • "Paris" - Ɖdith Piaf - A timeless Parisian classic! This iconic tune will transport you to the heart of Paris with every note.
  • "Je t'aime" - Serge Gainsbourg - Every girl loves a little Parisian romance, and Serge Gainsbourg brings that sweet feeling to life!
  • "Cā€™est si bon" - Henri Salvador - A feel-good classic that makes you want to twirl around the Seine River!

I am already planning next week's Parisian escapades. And let me tell you, they involve more stunning ballet shows, enchanting sights, delectable treats and, of course, plenty of pink tutu-tastic outfits! See you next week, darlings!
