Pink Tutu Paris: Post #375 - Ooh La La!
Bonjour mes chéries!
It's Saturday, the 3rd of March 2007, and your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller is back from a whirlwind Parisian adventure!
Let me tell you, the journey down from Derbyshire was positively magical. I chose to hop on the Eurostar, a fancy train that whisks you across the Channel in a flash. The plush seats, the on-board cafe, and the breathtaking scenery whizzing by outside made the journey just as delightful as the destination. And, of course, I had my trusty pink tutu bag overflowing with everything a fashionista needs in Paris: a matching pink scarf, my trusty ballet shoes, and enough blusher for a Parisian parade!
I stepped onto the Gare du Nord, practically buzzing with excitement! This was my fifth trip to the City of Lights, and I still get giddy every time I see the Eiffel Tower, all sparkly and shimmering against the grey Parisian sky.
Now, as you all know, I have an unshakeable rule: No tutu-less adventures! So, after a quick change into a fabulous pink, feathered number, I was ready to explore.
My first stop? The magical Palais Garnier, home to the Paris Opera Ballet. This grand, gilded masterpiece takes your breath away, and I simply couldn’t resist slipping inside for a quick peek at the rehearsal schedule. Can you believe it? I almost caught a glimpse of the legendary Étoile Sylvie Guillem herself! Luckily, I snapped a cheeky picture of the magnificent entrance for you lovely lot.
And of course, no Parisian escapade would be complete without some haute couture! Shopping, shopping, shopping is the name of the game, my dears! From the swanky boutiques on the Champs-Élysées to the independent vintage stores tucked away in charming side streets, Paris has a shop for everyone. I managed to snaffle up a pair of exquisitely embroidered ballet pumps, perfect for a romantic evening promenade, and a shimmering silver clutch that could double as a moon-beam catcher.
Speaking of evenings, Paris came alive as night fell. My pink tutu and I headed to the Théâtre de la Ville to see "Les Noces," a modern interpretation of the traditional Russian ballet with a fabulously bold and theatrical vibe. I’ll let you in on a little secret - my favourite scene was when a group of dancers burst onto the stage, dressed in vibrant scarlet tutus! That, my darlings, is how you truly make a statement.
Sunday morning arrived in a flash of golden sunshine. To say I wanted to embrace every minute of Parisian bliss would be an understatement! After a quick coffee at the delightful "Le Petit Poucet" (you simply must try their croissants!) , we strolled through the Louvre. It was a beautiful day, the air filled with the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread and the music of street performers.
I saw so much amazing artwork, but the piece that truly stopped me in my tracks was Michelangelo’s "Victory" statue. It truly captures the energy of movement and grace - just like my pink tutu! I'm even considering a Parisian photoshoot for www.pink-tutu.com, don't you think that's a fab idea?
And then, just when I thought my Parisian adventure couldn't get any better, I happened to stumble upon the most magical thing! A beautiful street performance by a troupe of young ballerinas - right outside the Gare de Lyon. Dressed in vibrant blue tutus, they spun and twirled with such energy and passion, they inspired me to pull out my own tutu and join in for a spontaneous twirl.
The crowd went wild, the sunshine glinted off the pink tutu, and I felt utterly happy and full of Parisian magic.
As I'm sitting here writing this, back in my Derbyshire cottage, surrounded by all the lovely photos and souvenirs I collected on my trip, I can’t help but smile.
Paris, my dear Paris, you always manage to steal my heart!
Until next week, mes chéri es,
Emma xx
P.S. Don’t forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com every Saturday for my next Paris blog post! And keep on twirling!
