Pink Tutu Blog Paris: Post Number 374 - 24th February 2007

Bonjour from Paris, mes chères amies! It's Emma, and oh my, you won't believe the week I've had! I feel like I've lived a lifetime in the last seven days. I travelled all the way to Paris - by Eurostar, of course! That silver bullet whizzes you across the Channel faster than a ballerina pirouettes. I had the most darling compartment, and the view was just dreamy.

Paris! My favourite city! It's bursting with inspiration - like a sugarplum in the springtime. The air smells of croissants and jasmine, the cobblestones are glistening under a romantic grey sky, and the only sounds are the pitter-patter of tiny hooves and the cheerful chitter-chatter of Parisians.

Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of Lights

I can already feel the creative energy coursing through my veins, the rhythm of Paris getting under my skin! The Parisian style is so chic, but they could use a little bit of pink and a whole lot of tutu! My mission? To bring the tutus! One sparkly, pink tulle layer at a time, I intend to revolutionize Parisian fashion. And what better place to start than the fashion mecca itself: Galeries Lafayette.

I arrived just as the lights were twinkling on, turning the whole department store into a twinkling fairytale castle. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming! And, honestly, who doesn't love a department store with a magnificent glass dome, filled with light and life? It’s like a symphony of fashion, whispering ideas of fabulous new outfits to me. I did manage to resist buying a whole new wardrobe, but I couldn't leave without a divine, emerald green cardigan with a big pink flower. Perfect for Paris!

Speaking of divine, I made a beeline for Ladurée on the Rue Royale for some of the most divine macarons you could possibly imagine. Oh, the colours, the textures, the taste! Every macaron was an explosion of happiness, each little bite taking me on a Parisian adventure of sweetness. The pistachio, the lavender, the caramel - the flavour possibilities were endless!

Ballet Bliss: The "Sleeping Beauty" Soirée

Now, no trip to Paris would be complete without a little ballet. Today, it was the much anticipated "Sleeping Beauty" at the Opéra Garnier. Let me just tell you - breathtaking. Every pirouette was precise, every arabesque so elegant. I can’t tell you how much the grandeur of the Opéra, combined with the magic of the story and the sheer brilliance of the performance, made my heart sing. My tears fell down my face. What is more inspiring, more powerful, more graceful than the language of ballet?

But let’s get back to that dazzling, pink-and-gold tutu worn by Aurora. It was literally the icing on the cake! Every move was magnified by that incredible, fluffy, beautiful masterpiece of a tutu, and every little girl in the audience gasped. I practically choked back a scream! Such a vision!

I met the sweetest woman after the performance, Madame Jacqueline, a Parisian grande dame. She’s over 80 and she has such a twinkle in her eye! She gave me the biggest hug and told me she admired my pink tutu - what an honour! You know what, Madame Jacqueline, you are inspiring to me too! This incredible Parisian, she reminded me of why I’m so passionate about ballet, why it moves me and inspires me to wear my own pink tutu everywhere. I believe you're never too old, or too young, to be graceful and wear a tutu with pride.

My Ballet Street Dream:

Now, let me tell you a secret: my dream isn't just to twirl across grand stages in Paris; it's to inspire people on the street! Imagine seeing ballet shoes tap-tap-tapping down the boulevards, the music of classical tunes floating in the air! Just a touch of grace and artistry amidst the hustle and bustle. Paris has already started to catch on!

On Saturday, I wandered past the majestic Tuileries Garden, admiring the Parisian chic with my pink tutu swishing about. Suddenly, there I was: amidst a throng of people on the Champs-Élysées! I closed my eyes, let the Parisian vibe infuse me, and... twirled!

You'd be amazed, darling! The smiles, the clapping, the laughter! Even a few children shouted, "La Tutu!" in admiration! That's when I knew: the Parisian heart loves a little ballet and, apparently, pink tutus!

Saturday Splendour:

Of course, no Paris trip is complete without a Saturday afternoon exploring hidden alleyways and quaint cafes. There are just so many tiny treasures to be found: the antique shops tucked away on the Left Bank, the quirky boutiques on Rue des Martyrs, the cobbled streets echoing with laughter, the smell of fresh bread baking in old ovens.

The other day, I found a small vintage clothing shop called Le Chic Vintage. You know me: a weakness for anything vintage and a whole lot of tulle! Inside, I found the most beautiful, vintage, hand-painted pink ballet shoes, perfect for a Parisian ballerina. Of course, I just had to have them! They look fabulous peeking out from under my pink tutu!

I spent the rest of the day watching street performers and sipping tea at a cute café on Rue Cler. There's something so charming about Parisian cafés, you know? A beautiful plate of pastries, a steaming cup of tea, and a quiet corner for a girl to relax, write, and soak up the ambiance. Oh, Paris, you are truly enchanting.

A Piece of Paris in My Heart:

And you know what? I’m not even a little bit sad to be going home tomorrow. My heart is bursting with Parisian joy! Every little Parisian detail is forever imprinted in my memory - the smell of the cafes, the elegant ladies, the rhythmic clatter of the horses hooves on cobblestones, the majestic Opera, the little vintage shop with its treasure trove of Parisian past. And all my memories will be filled with the beautiful, romantic feel of this special, stylish city. The pink tutu journey never ends!

Oh, my dearest readers! It's time for me to hop onto the Eurostar. Until next week! Keep your eyes open for the latest pink tutu fashions, for you never know where your tutu journey will lead!

Love,

Emma
