Pink Tutu Blog Paris - #485 - Saturday 2009-04-11 - A Pink Tutu Dream in the City of Lights
Bonjour mes chères amies! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing, Paris-obsessed blogger, back from another magical adventure in the City of Lights! I've been longing to share my latest escapade with you all - because frankly, darling, Paris simply does something to your soul!
This trip was particularly special as it marked the culmination of weeks of rehearsals for a rather fabulous charity ballet performance back home in Derbyshire. (Just to clarify, I was lucky enough to snag a leading role, hence the celebratory trip to Paris!). As soon as the final curtain call was complete, I booked myself a ticket on the EuroStar - who can resist a journey across the channel, especially when wearing my latest pink tutu purchase? 😉
The EuroStar always feels like a portal to another world. The soft glow of the carriage lights, the rhythmic hum of the train, the soft tinkling of the trolley bell... I settled in with a copy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (you know, because who wouldn't want a touch of romantic whimsy on the journey?), and within a blink, we were chugging our way through the picturesque French countryside, leaving the familiar green rolling hills of England behind. The moment the train glided into the Gare du Nord, I was transported. I can't help but get swept up in the magic of this beautiful city every single time.
As soon as I hopped off the train, the Parisian energy washed over me: the air thick with the fragrance of freshly baked bread, the murmur of languages swirling around me, and the elegant Parisians rushing to and fro. It was intoxicating.
Of course, what would a Paris adventure be without some serious shopping? After checking into my charming hotel (a little haven tucked away in a cobbled back street, just a stone's throw from the Louvre, naturellement!), my first order of business was to head to the Marais district, a treasure trove of independent boutiques and vintage stores. Let me tell you, darling, the vintage fashion scene in Paris is incredible! I snagged a few amazing pieces – a gorgeous scarlet silk dress from the 50s that practically begs for a twirl and a fabulous feather boa, just the perfect finishing touch for an evening at the theatre.
My little pink tutu had to join in the festivities, too. So, I ventured into the magical world of "L'Etoile," a hidden boutique that stocks the most divine ballerina shoes and tutus. After all, a ballerina can never have too many tutus, wouldn't you agree? They are my armour, my statement piece, my ultimate fashion dream! I was lucky to discover the perfect pastel pink tulle, shimmering under the Parisian sun. Oh, I can already envision the twirling opportunities in the Tuileries Garden!
No trip to Paris is complete without a ballet performance. And thankfully, my timing couldn't have been better. Today, I had the pleasure of seeing the most stunning performance of "Swan Lake" at the Palais Garnier. This grand theatre is a magnificent beast, steeped in history, adorned with opulence, and home to the magic of dance. I could feel the stories whispered from the walls as the graceful ballerinas pirouetted across the stage.
Paris in April was as stunning as ever - the cherry blossoms in full bloom, creating a confetti of pink and white across the city, their sweet scent mingling with the buttery fragrance of fresh croissants. Every turn of the corner unveiled another stunning sight - a quaint cobblestone square, a grand cathedral bathed in golden light, a whimsical street performer weaving magic with a melody and a hat full of coins. I even indulged in the ritual of purchasing a bouquet of lilies, a vibrant flash of white against the city's grey buildings, bringing the scent of spring to my tiny apartment for a few glorious days.
Speaking of my Parisian home, let's not forget the beautiful Parisian apartment I've been lucky enough to rent! It's a tiny little jewel, full of vintage charm and nestled on a street bursting with laughter and life. The French balcony allows for a sneak peek at the Parisian life below, perfect for observing the locals going about their day, with their freshly-baked bread in hand, heading towards the cafe for their morning coffee.
But Paris, it's true, isn't just about ballet and shopping! It’s also about savoring delicious, mouthwatering pastries, the fragrant aroma of espresso brewing, indulging in cheese so decadent it could be considered a national treasure, and experiencing the pure joy of a "croque monsieur" shared on a sunny terrace. Oh, the joy!
On this visit, I've taken a delightful journey along the Seine River, a picturesque stroll down the Champs-Elysees, a peek at the awe-inspiring Notre Dame, and spent a whimsical afternoon watching Parisian children play in the Jardin du Luxembourg. The city always offers something new to discover - a tiny little cafe with the most delightful cakes, a bookshop with endless shelves of stories, a flower stall brimming with vibrant blooms. Every experience has its own charm, whispering stories of history, culture, and joie de vivre.
Speaking of the joie de vivre, I can't help but share a bit of Parisian street-style wisdom that I've absorbed throughout the trip: It’s all about effortless elegance, darling. Think elegant black dresses, a splash of bold colour (my pink tutu is always making an appearance, of course!), a stylish scarf, and the all-important “je ne sais quoi” - that indefinable Parisian spark that radiates charm and confidence.
You see, I firmly believe that every day can be a dance! It’s a beautiful thing to spread a little bit of joy and a whole lot of pink tulle, and it all begins with one simple decision: To wear a pink tutu and embrace life with a joyous spirit. Because, darling, life’s a grand adventure, and with a little bit of pink, it can be absolutely magical.
So, my sweet readers, as I prepare to embark on my return journey across the channel, I bid you adieu with a promise to bring you more Parisian escapades soon. Remember, the world is your stage! Let your own inner pink tutu shine, dance with passion, and spread a little bit of joy every day. Au revoir, mes chéries! Until next week!
Love,
Emma xx
