Pink Tutu Blog - Paris: Bonjour from the City of Lights! (Post #620)
Bonjour, mes amis! It's Emma here, reporting live from the utterly divine Paris! It's Saturday, 12th November 2011, and my pink tutu is already positively buzzing with Parisian excitement.
As you know, my heart skips a beat at the thought of a new adventure, and hopping on the Eurostar to Paris has been a dream for years! This trip has been fuelled by hours spent perfecting my pliĆ©s and pirouettes ā I've been performing like a mad woman lately, all to pay for this glorious escape. My ballet school even donated some extra funding to help with the cause, which is truly wonderful and so thoughtful of them. You see, being a pink tutu-wearing ballerina isn't just about the pretty frocks and fancy footwork ā it's a lifestyle, a philosophy!
The journey on the Eurostar was, as ever, a joy. I couldnāt resist a good old-fashioned ātutu trainā photoshoot, the sheer joy of spinning with my sparkly tutu skirt in the airy train carriage is, quite simply, divine. The fellow passengers smiled ā some giggled, but mostly in a nice way! A fellow ballet-enthusiast even started a spontaneous, impromptu, ballet dance down the train aisle! Itās all part of my mission to make everyone see the wonder of tutus, donāt you think?
Now, Parisā¦where do I even begin? This city is like stepping straight out of a fairytale, a delightful blend of old-world charm and cosmopolitan cool. The streets are cobbled, lined with pretty boutiques and overflowing with a symphony of delicious smells ā freshly baked croissants, strong espresso, and, of course, the enchanting aroma of roses wafting from countless street stalls. And did I mention the light? Parisian light is unlike anything else ā it bathes the city in a soft, warm glow that makes everything look stunningly picturesque.
Right now, Iām snuggled in a cute little Parisian cafĆ© with a hot chocolate thatās thicker than a ballerinaās braid and sprinkled with even more chocolate shavings! It's bliss. I'm surrounded by locals, who all look utterly chic in their casual, Parisian attire, and thereās a busker serenading the cafĆ© with a gorgeous melody on the accordion. The atmosphere is one of pure relaxed joie de vivre ā something I could get very used to!
Of course, a trip to Paris would be utterly incomplete without indulging in a spot of shopping, especially since Iām in the city of couture, darling! Iāve been to the chicest boutiques, eyeing up beautiful lace, silk and the most exquisite dresses ā Paris truly knows how to turn fashion into art! And my trusty pink tutu, well, itās certainly been put to good use as Iāve twirled around the boutiques and indulged in some serious Parisian style inspiration.
However, it wouldnāt be a Pink Tutu blog without talking about ballet, would it? I was lucky enough to see an incredible performance last night at the OpĆ©ra Garnier, the Paris Opera House. It was Magnificent. āThe Sleeping Beautyā, with its breathtaking sets and captivating choreography, simply took my breath away. The grace of the dancers was divine ā every leap, every arabesque, was an expression of pure artistry, making me long to take to the stage myself! Oh, to have that kind of magic, that kind of grace!
But of course, thereās nothing quite like the magic of finding my own kind of ballet haven here in Paris. I'm headed to a dance studio tucked away in a quaint side street this afternoon ā it's called āBallet Rose,ā and the name itself just speaks to my very soul!
The rest of the weekend is packed with more ballet performances, more shopping adventures, more delicious treats, and most importantly, soaking up the charm of this incredible city. This city, itās just, well, magical. Oh, and a promise ā my Pink Tutu Paris Diary will be brimming with new photos to share with you all next week. Until then, stay pink, my darlings!
