Bonjour, mes chéries!
The EuroStar journey was like a little ballet performance in itself. With a little pirouette of the train rounding a bend, we sped across the English Channel, leaving behind the rolling green hills of Derbyshire for the elegant cobblestones of Paris. Oh, I do love that elegant French railway system! Every time I journey by train I feel a thrill of anticipation, as if each stop were a step in my own grand choreography. And wouldn't you know, my little pink tutu perfectly matched the blush-hued sunset that kissed the Channel as we crossed.
But the best part? This weekend, Paris is practically exploding with ballet! The French have a wonderful way of bringing culture into every corner of their lives, and I, of course, have plans to revel in it all!
Let me start with today, Saturday, the 13th of August. Yes, I know, some consider this day unlucky, but with Paris as my backdrop, I knew it could only bring delightful surprises.
My day began with a flurry of excitement: I'm starting a brand new ballet class with a wonderful teacher at a charming studio tucked away in the charming Montmartre district. I must admit, the sight of the Moulin Rouge just down the street did cause my imagination to flit briefly towards cabaret, but that's another adventure for another day. For now, I'm focusing on strengthening my fouettés and deepening my pirouettes!
After a satisfyingly demanding class, I had just the cure for tired muscles: Afternoon tea at Ladurée! Honestly, how could I possibly resist the temptation of macarons nestled amongst blooming teacups and dainty pastries? There's something truly magical about French patisseries; every detail feels meticulously crafted, like a little work of art! I chose a pastel pink macaron with a creamy, delicately flavoured ganache and a beautiful macaron inspired by the Eiffel Tower, an iconic reminder of the city I am now blessed to be calling home for the week.
But a ballerina's work is never truly done, so the evening saw me in a magnificent theater, ready for an absolute treat: "La Fille Mal Gardée" by the Paris Opera Ballet! Oh my, the music, the costumes, the incredible talent of these dancers... it was a total sensory feast! And to see the audience roaring with laughter at the hilarious scenes – it was truly charming. Every dancer radiated pure joy and passion. I left feeling so inspired, already eager for the next show.
And oh my, I’m completely enamored with this city's energy!
It seems everywhere I turn, there’s something captivating. Yesterday, a street performer transformed a simple Parisian street into a whimsical stage, with his quick steps and energetic jigs. My heart fluttered as his joyous laughter echoed in the streets, making me smile even wider than I normally do!
My Parisian haven for this week is the Hotel du Louvre, which I found thanks to the excellent recommendations on www.pink-tutu.com - our lovely readers really do come up with the best ideas! It’s right next to the famous Louvre Museum, just steps away from all the beautiful artwork and architectural grandeur. There’s a Parisian flair to the décor here, and a little balcony where I've already managed to indulge in a delightful afternoon of reading my favourite novels while sipping Parisian coffee (so delicious!).
