Bonjour from Paris, mes amis! ??✨
It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, and I'm positively thrilled to be writing to you from the City of Lights. This is post #1422 on www.pink-tutu.com - you know, my little slice of the internet where I share my adventures in ballet, fashion, and travel. Today, we're exploring the enchanting streets of Paris, a city that absolutely captures my heart.
It all began, as you know, with the thrilling whizz through the Chunnel on the Eurostar. The journey is always a joy. The air feels so clean and crisp on those high-speed trains. I felt the Parisian spirit filling my lungs even before we pulled into the station. Then there's the sheer delight of stepping out of Gare du Nord, breathing in the Parisian air, and soaking up the energy of this magnificent city.
It feels almost impossible to believe I haven't been to Paris before. My ballet work took me all over Europe, from Germany to Russia, but Paris, the birthplace of so much artistic inspiration, had somehow eluded me. But now, here I am, and I couldn't be happier!
This time, however, I'm not here to perform. I'm here to truly experience Paris. You see, dear readers, the beauty of being a ballet dancer is the ability to travel the world and perform on stages big and small, but my little ballerina heart needs a bit of pampering now and then. Paris, of course, is the perfect antidote to my performance schedule.
I kicked off this Parisian escapade with a trip to the Louvre, naturally. It felt surreal, walking past the iconic glass pyramid and into a world of history, art, and culture. I saw the Mona Lisa, of course, and spent ages marvelling at its enigmatic beauty. There was an almost magnetic pull to its stillness - as if I could just stare at it all day. The Venus de Milo was also breathtaking. And while the Louvre is brimming with magnificent sculptures, it's not just about history - it's also about fashion. Seeing all those silks and embroideries and brocades, they reminded me of all the gorgeous fabrics that I have fallen in love with through ballet costumes. It just shows how fashion is such a vital part of performance.
Speaking of fashion, Paris is, of course, a paradise for clothes-loving souls. We're talking the crème de la crème of designer stores - the flagship Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent - just a dream for a girl who loves a little luxury, and who doesn't, right? But honestly, for a bit of real fun, the quaint, bohemian boutiques around the Marais, are where I felt my spirit really come alive.
Saturday, 2027-03-27 - it was my lucky day - it was a balletic wonder, the day I saw the Ballets Garnier's breathtaking performance of Giselle! Talk about elegance, grace, and heart. Honestly, my heart practically burst with every pirouette, every grand jeté. That incredible dance theatre with the ornate chandelier - it truly took me back in time. I imagine tutus flowing like clouds as ballerinas danced, even way back in the early 1800s, on this same stage. The show was absolutely captivating, and the ballet dancers' grace and precision were just sublime. They moved with such freedom and precision; it was a perfect illustration of how ballet isn't just about strength and technique. It's a true art form that embraces vulnerability, elegance, and emotions - truly magic! You could hear a pin drop after each incredible leap, each stunning pirouette - a complete silence of pure reverence.
For me, the theatre isn't just about watching dancers. I live for that buzz - that pure joy and thrill of performing. In between admiring all the couture (I did make a few very necessary purchases for my wardrobe!), I even squeezed in a delightful ballet class at a small, charming studio nestled in the heart of Paris. The feeling of pirouettes on wooden floors with Parisian sunshine filtering through the windows - oh my, truly divine. It really gave me the energy boost to hit the ground running on this trip! I found that in Paris, even with my ballerina style of walking, you still have to stay focused or risk being pushed over by locals whizzing about on those tiny little electric scooters. It took some concentration to avoid a collision but that was alright because you never know what you might find around each Parisian corner.
This trip was all about indulgence, and so naturally, the Pink Tutu was my travel companion. Paris is just one of those places where every outfit feels perfect. It was hard to resist indulging in my penchant for all things pink and tutu-worthy. I embraced my Parisian chic with an oversized, soft pink tutu paired with a white crochet sweater. A delicate lace beret and a pair of elegant, ankle-length leather boots topped it all off. The delicate pink and the deep dark colours - a bit of a fashion paradox - but in Paris, absolutely the right blend! My Instagram posts are absolutely buzzing with photos and comments. It really gave me that perfect pink confidence - that 'Emma feeling'.
The next day, after enjoying a lovely cup of coffee and some delicious pastries at a delightful boulangerie near the Eiffel Tower, it was off to explore more. The City of Lights just brims with a history and art that never fails to mesmerize me. The stunning architecture, cobblestone streets, and charming cafes are enough to make anyone feel transported. Even the street performers and buskers, who seem to blend seamlessly into the city's landscape, have that special 'je ne sais quoi.'
I decided to explore the iconic Champs-Élysées. Stepping off the metro and onto this Parisian boulevard was an experience I won't soon forget. The energy here was incredible - a lively pulse that set my toes tapping even while walking. It's almost as if you can hear the Parisian pulse in this magical city. Every turn you take there's another fashion discovery, and the smell of buttery croissants baking fresh in cafes is intoxicating. Every so often I would treat myself to a delicious Parisian tart from the famous Ladurée, you know, those ones with the delectable almond flour base - heaven in every bite!
I spent hours walking around this magnificent boulevard, absorbing the sights, sounds, and energy of Paris. You just can't help but feel a little glamorous when surrounded by such beauty! The Seine River is captivating. Evenings are filled with the soothing melody of a gentle Parisian breeze. You almost want to twirl alongside the city and be a part of this incredible storybook adventure.
One of my most memorable moments was a boat tour on the Seine, gliding under the Eiffel Tower in the late evening. Seeing the Eiffel Tower illuminated against the backdrop of the Parisian sky, and having a pink tutu floating around me... It truly felt magical. There are just moments that words can't even describe - the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower on a Parisian night as the river flows, the lights from the banks creating a gentle, hypnotic dance - a picture postcard that captures Parisian soul in all its glory.
As my time in Paris began to wind down, I found myself sitting on a terrace by the Seine, savouring a final glass of wine and reflecting on all that I had seen, tasted, felt, and learned. It's truly been an unforgettable experience.
While I’m delighted to have experienced Paris, I must admit that even on this mini-holiday, I still found time for a spot of practice. Even the best dancers, and yes I consider myself in the 'best dancer' category (pink tutu wearing ballerinas are the best dancers!), have to keep up with their regimes. Ballet training is part of who I am - a ritual that gives me structure and discipline - even while traveling and exploring this beautiful city! There was a beautiful park nearby, with leafy green grass that stretched endlessly into the horizon. You might find me, in all my pink tutu glory, stretching and practicing on the grounds. I even practiced en pointe under a canopy of old, shady oak trees. This little moment of mindfulness and movement was such a treat - reminding me of my love for dance and reminding me of how magical Paris truly is.
This trip to Paris has left me feeling so inspired, not just by the beauty of the city but also by its incredible spirit of creativity, art, and, of course, fashion. It was amazing to witness how the city seamlessly blends the old and new. Modern-day Parisian trends mix and mingle with those old traditions that echo throughout the centuries,
I promise to be back to visit Paris soon. My Pink Tutu is already waiting to be packed. And I'll certainly keep you all posted on what adventures I get up to, because a trip to Paris is only the beginning.
Now, until next Saturday, make sure to check out the latest Pink Tutu blog post, find me on Instagram and Facebook. Let's keep spreading pink love! ?
Bisous,
Emma xx
