Prague Dreams in Pink Tutu - Post #25

Bonjour, my darling darlings! It's Emma here, your pink tutu enthusiast extraordinaire, bringing you the latest instalment from the most magical city on the planet (no, not Derbyshire... but you knew that, right?!). This week, I've swapped the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the cobblestone streets of Prague, and my trusty steed has been swapped for a plush train carriage. (I may have squeezed a few extra sparkly bags onto the luggage rack... can't resist a little bit of whimsy, can we?)

Prague, a ballet lover's paradise

This glorious city is just brimming with history and culture, but for a girl who lives, breathes, and sleeps ballet (did I mention I have a ballet-themed dreamcatcher hanging over my bed? Just sayin'!), Prague is truly a dream come true.

I must say, Prague has taken my breath away. It’s the ultimate fairytale setting, with its dramatic spires reaching for the sky and the enchanting, romantic charm of the cobblestone streets.

Every corner reveals a new architectural masterpiece, each more breathtaking than the last. Even the city's historic bridge is festooned with quirky statues, whispering secrets of the past. Honestly, it's enough to make you want to whip up a twirl in your finest pink tutu!

And oh, the food! My inner gourmand is positively swooning over the traditional Bohemian dishes. From rich, velvety goulash to dumplings so fluffy they practically float, my tummy is truly in heaven. Of course, every delicious morsel is enjoyed in the utmost elegance... what else could I be wearing but my new hot pink sequined skirt, paired with a black velvet top and, naturally, a touch of tulle from my trusty pink tutu! (A girl's gotta stay true to her style, right?!)

The Magical Dance of the Pink Tutu

But let's get back to the real star of the show: ballet! My trip to Prague has been timed to coincide with a magnificent ballet performance. This is the sort of cultural event that just can't be missed. You see, I believe there's a certain magic in witnessing the grace and artistry of ballet live, right there on stage. It's a privilege to witness such a passion, a dedication to the art, expressed through the physical language of the body. And with a dazzling tutu to top it off, it's almost otherworldly!

Dancing with the Past - Tutu Timeline

Speaking of tutus... Did you know the story behind tutus is actually pretty fascinating?

  • Back in the 1830s, dancers were wearing a long, flowy dress, and it wasn't really the most practical garment for twirling and leaping.

  • Thankfully, a famous choreographer called Marie Taglioni had an idea. She thought: wouldn't it be amazing if dancers had more freedom of movement, especially for those fancy leaps and twirls that define ballet?

  • So, she had a beautiful, flowing skirt designed for a dance she was choreographing, and this new look became known as the tutu! It quickly became a ballet staple, even though it was, at first, thought to be pretty radical (they didn't really understand fashion back then! Haha)

  • Over time, the tutu has evolved - it’s gone through many transformations, from the longer, fuller, romantic tutus to the shorter, more playful versions that are worn in today's ballets.

And my darling dears, what would this Pink Tutu Chronicles blog post be without a tutu tip for you?! Here is my little tutu wisdom for the day:

Never underestimate the power of a good tutu

If you ever want to add a touch of magic to your outfit, just add a tutu. I know, I know. It sounds silly! But trust me, a little bit of tulle can really brighten up even the dullest of outfits, and give you a sense of whimsy and joy that’s practically impossible to resist. You don’t have to be a ballerina to enjoy the magical feeling of twirling in a pink tutu – I’ve even seen dogs strutting their stuff in tutus on TikTok! The world's your oyster when you're wearing a tutu.

The Tutu Travels On

I can already tell, my darling readers, this will not be my last post from Prague. The city's enchanting atmosphere has already inspired me with plenty of ideas for upcoming posts, from a visit to a famous historical theater to finding hidden gems tucked away on cobblestone streets, with a sprinkle of pink tutu fashion inspiration, of course!

Before I go, I do have a little dilemma: Should I venture out into the streets of Prague to find some fabulous vintage fashion treasures to adorn my beloved tutu wardrobe, or shall I indulge in a local culinary adventure at a charming cafe, sipping Czech beer and sampling pastries that look too good to be true? (But don't worry, darlings, you can always find my whereabouts by keeping a close eye on www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday - that's my sacred blogging day!)

Stay tuned, my pink tutu posy. Until next week, remember: the world is your stage!

Love always,

Emma
