Prague Post #41: Pink Tutu Takes on Prague

Hello, my darlings! It’s Emma here, and I'm bursting with excitement to share my latest adventures with you from the enchanting city of Prague. As always, my trusty pink tutu is in tow, ready to twirl through cobblestone streets and waltz across magical bridges.

This week’s blog post comes to you live from Prague, a city brimming with history and fairytale charm. Imagine winding alleyways adorned with fairy lights, spires reaching for the heavens, and cafes overflowing with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. This is Prague, my dears, and it’s utterly bewitching.

I arrived by train, of course – a classic mode of transport for any ballerina who appreciates a touch of romance. And, naturally, my outfit had to be as stylish as my surroundings: a pale pink polka-dot dress paired with my signature pink tulle tutu, a jaunty little beret perched on my head, and my favourite pair of ballet flats - the ones with the delicate rose detailing. You know me, never compromising on my love for the colour pink.

Prague's heart, Old Town Square, was my first port of call. It was a kaleidoscope of sights and sounds – a bustling market overflowing with souvenirs, street musicians playing traditional Czech melodies, and, of course, the iconic Astronomical Clock, its whimsical figures dancing in time to the chiming bells. It's a testament to the city's long and rich history, a fact that captivated my imagination from the moment I stepped onto Czech soil.

A Parisian Whirlwind in Prague:

Of course, I couldn't visit Prague without exploring its theatre scene. And boy, oh boy, was I in for a treat! The ballet performance at the National Theatre was an absolute delight, a whirlwind of artistry and grace. Imagine this – exquisite costumes dripping in delicate embroidery, stunning choreography that made my heart flutter, and the sweet notes of a symphony orchestra weaving their magic throughout the grand hall. I couldn’t help but get lost in the storytelling, the way the dancers moved, their every gesture an expression of pure emotion.

For the occasion, I wore a stunning, floor-length gown, the perfect combination of elegance and drama. It was a deep shade of blush, like a sunrise kissed by the city’s golden dawn. Naturally, my tutu went without saying. After all, my mantra is "more tutu, more fabulous," and in the magnificent world of ballet, I never pass up a chance to twirl and twirl again.

Finding the Magic of Old Prague:

Later, I ventured through the cobblestone alleys of the Old Town. A delicious smell of cinnamon and roasted almonds wafted through the air, inviting me into a traditional Czech cafe. With a warm mug of hot chocolate in my hand, I savored the moment.

My favourite discovery was the Charles Bridge, with its ornate statues and breathtaking views of the city. Walking across, the setting sun painted the sky with hues of pink, a breathtaking spectacle. It was an idyllic setting, the kind that inspired poets and dreamers alike. As I gazed out over the Vltava River, I felt a deep sense of connection with the history and the magic of Prague.

Tutuing Through The Charming Streets:

One of my most exciting discoveries was Prague's burgeoning ballet scene. From quaint little studios to grand theatres, the city pulsates with the spirit of dance. I found myself captivated by a troupe of young street dancers who were performing near the Charles Bridge, their moves flowing effortlessly, a captivating combination of street-inspired hip-hop and the fluidity of classic ballet. It was like witnessing a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression, a celebration of the universal language of dance.

The vibrant street life inspired me to join the locals in a traditional folk dance. The joyful sounds of accordion and violin music filled the air, and I twirled in the centre of a group of smiling faces, the sun dipping behind the city's historic skyline, casting a warm glow over the scene. It was an impromptu dance party of the heart, filled with laughter and joyful energy. I loved learning the graceful steps of the dance and being part of the festive atmosphere, a real immersion into Prague’s culture.

Tutu Tales:

Talking of dances, Prague, of course, has a rich ballet history. I delved into the story of Anna Pavlova, the legendary ballerina who graced the city’s stages, mesmerising audiences with her delicate and poetic style. Pavlova, a beacon of elegance, helped put Prague on the global map as a city of ballet. I, for one, would give anything to have seen her dance!

But there are also stories of how Prague played an important role in the early years of the tutu itself. Tutus have always been a symbol of feminine strength and beauty, and this story fascinated me. A long, long time ago, dancers in Prague wanted to express their emotions more fully and have more movement, freedom and grace on the stage, and the tutu helped them to do just that. It gave them the power and the confidence to dance with true artistry.

As my trip wound down, I made sure to pay a visit to one of Prague’s beautiful antique shops, filled with exquisite antique gowns and headwear that had been in vogue decades ago. They all reminded me of how fashion evolves and changes. I felt so inspired to capture their charm and creativity in my own pink tutu designs for the future, and how to blend my modern touch with classic styles.

Pink Tutu-Style Tips for a Perfect Prague Trip:

If you're looking for the perfect outfit to wear on your trip to Prague, I suggest keeping it comfortable and chic. Choose a classic little black dress, or opt for a chic, bohemian vibe with flowing skirts and delicate embroidery.

When shopping for your Prague outfits, look out for pretty pastels and floral prints – think soft lilacs, peaches, or delicate pale blues. Embrace feminine patterns and beautiful trims for a truly whimsical Prague look.

And, naturally, my trusty pink tutu is the perfect finishing touch for your travels! It’s all about having fun with fashion and showcasing your own unique personality. Whether you choose a ballet class, an evening at the opera, or a walk along the Charles Bridge, your pink tutu will add a dash of magic to your trip.

Until next time, darlings! Keep twirling, and always embrace your inner ballerina!
