Pink Tutu Prague: A Fairy Tale in the City of a Hundred Spires (Post #55)

Bonjour, darlings! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means? It's Pink Tutu time! This week I'm bringing you a glimpse into my latest escapade: Prague! Oh, the magic! The romance! The...pink?

But let’s rewind a little. Remember last week's post about my amazing London performances? Well, after some breathtaking pirouettes and grand jetés, I was absolutely ready for a new adventure.

Now, I've always dreamt of visiting Prague. Picture this: cobbled streets, gothic cathedrals, stunning architecture – a visual feast! It truly is a city steeped in history, a city brimming with character. And, wouldn't you know it, it also boasts a vibrant ballet scene! (What’s a girl to do but dance in a pink tutu in such a captivating location?)

But before I even set foot in Prague, I had to decide on the perfect travel outfit, naturally. You see, my life revolves around two key elements: tutus and trains. And since this trip was a little special (oh, how I was excited!), I decided on my beautiful, shimmering lavender-pink tutu with cascading tulle layers.

(Fun fact: you know how much I love historical tidbits, right? Well, did you know that tutus didn't always have such flowing skirts? Initially, tutus were short and knee-length, and their style changed to longer and more layered throughout the 19th century. Imagine that! My, how much our ballet style has evolved! But that's a story for another day!)

I hopped on the train (of course) with a stack of ballet books (one of my favourite pastimes!), my trusty pink beret (another pink-tastic touch), and my trusty tutu bag filled with an assortment of accessories. You never know when you'll need a sparkly headband or a tulle flower to add a touch of enchantment!

The train journey was enchanting. We rolled through breathtaking countryside, passing by quaint villages, green meadows, and rolling hills. Oh, I felt so incredibly grateful for all the joy dancing brings. Just think, my passion fuels my travel and allows me to see all these wonderful places!

Speaking of my passion, let me tell you all about Prague’s magical ballet scene. Oh, it was pure magic!

**(And I have to tell you about the amazing food I tasted, especially the famous Czech dumplings! I ate more of those than I’ve had steps in a show!)

I made my way to the magical National Theatre on 15th May 1996. My dear, the architecture of this theatre is truly awe-inspiring. Picture high ceilings, beautiful marble, and opulent decorations – talk about elegance! I could practically feel the stories and emotions dancing through the halls!

I wasn’t only mesmerised by the architecture; the programme on the 15th May was so incredible. A performance by the renowned Czech National Ballet of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. This iconic ballet tells the tale of love, betrayal, and transformation, beautifully told through expressive movement and captivating music. Oh, the emotion of it all, my dears!

Of course, I couldn't leave Prague without paying a visit to the ballet school. I even attended a master class! It was a great opportunity to soak in some invaluable techniques, and of course, to be surrounded by fellow ballet enthusiasts. I always find that such a supportive atmosphere fuels my love for dancing and motivates me to be better.

But of course, my Prague escapade wasn't just about ballet. There’s so much to see! I explored the enchanting Charles Bridge, crossed by people and horses for over six centuries! I climbed up to the Petřín Lookout Tower for spectacular views of the city and watched street performers twirl their way through the crowds. They're always a wonderful inspiration. You know what they say – dancing isn't confined to the stage; it’s in the heart of every city.

I fell completely in love with the vibrant street life, charming cafes, and quaint shops. And let me tell you, my dear readers, the shopping was a delightful whirlwind! Prague is a shopper's paradise. So many treasures to discover – exquisite glass, delicate ceramics, and beautifully crafted jewellery. But my absolute favourite find?

A pink tutu shop, darling! I swear it was meant to be. It had tutus of every colour under the sun! Pink, of course, dominated the displays. But what a beautiful mix! Blush, coral, fuchsia, magenta! It was every ballerinas' dream! And yes, I left with more tutus in my suitcase than you can imagine (not a complaint, my dears!)! Every ballerina needs a variety, you see.

As I bid farewell to Prague, my heart felt light and joyful. This city truly has a special magic. It’s a city that truly celebrates the beauty of art and life, a city that encourages us to dream and chase our passions.

But before I end my Prague tale, I'll tell you this: a trip to Prague is simply incomplete without indulging in traditional Czech delicacies. Think delicious roast pork, savoury dumplings, and a good dose of rich pastries.

The city embraces traditions, and, my darlings, I’m a sucker for a good tradition! And don't forget, a lovely mug of Czech beer!

After Prague’s adventures, it’s back to England, back to Derbyshire, to focus on my performances, but that's a story for next week.

But you know what I truly want? For every woman, man, child to find a little bit of joy in the movement and embrace their own unique sense of grace. And what better way to do it than in a beautiful pink tutu?

Until next Wednesday, darlings!
