Pink Tutu Prague: A Whirlwind of Culture and Couture (Blog Post #64)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, back from a simply divine trip to Prague, a city brimming with history, charm, and an absolute symphony of stunning architecture that leaves one gasping for breath! I just had to share this magnificent journey with you, so grab a cuppa and settle in, because you’re in for a treat.

Now, before I get carried away with my usual flights of fancy (I do get swept up in the beauty of it all!), I must mention that, yes, Prague is as beautiful as the photographs promise, even more so, perhaps, with its medieval cobblestones and the pastel hues of its ancient buildings. And darling, speaking of beautiful… my Pink Tutu was right at home amongst the gothic splendour of the Charles Bridge and the vibrant hues of the Old Town Square. It truly is the ultimate travelling companion – I can't imagine touring this beautiful world in anything else.

Now, as a devotee to all things delicate and exquisite, my travels are always a meticulous balance between performance, travel and, of course, couture. And I wouldn’t have it any other way! This week, in between taking in the exquisite architecture of the Prague Castle, and watching the sun setting over the city's many bridges (which are even more stunning than they appear in photos!), I made sure to indulge my fashion-forward tendencies with a trip to the incredible Prague Fashion Week, which I’ve been planning for weeks! You simply MUST get yourself to the Czech Republic for this spectacle! The catwalk creations, oh darling, the artistry… The designers in Prague really have their fingers on the pulse, using a mixture of vintage elegance, futuristic flair and a dash of traditional Czech craft. Honestly, it was positively dazzling and put my own sartorial game to the test! But the biggest takeaway from Prague Fashion Week? I think I found the perfect new Pink Tutu to add to my collection – it has such intricate beading and exquisite floral accents. Oh, it's practically a work of art, I tell you!

Speaking of works of art, a visit to the National Theatre, perched proudly beside the Vltava river, is a must! I was simply mesmerized by the performances I witnessed. Honestly, the stage is adorned with such intricate detail and, dare I say, drama, and the ballet was exquisite. Oh, my darlings, I could have spent hours watching those graceful dancers flit about the stage! There is a certain majesty to these performances, and, I admit, they did leave me dreaming of waltzing along the cobbled streets of Prague, even in my very own pink tutu, of course!

And the beauty of it all, darling, is that Prague’s history comes alive everywhere. The architecture tells its stories through intricate gargoyles and beautiful gothic towers. I even made it to a historical re-enactment in the Old Town Square, where the dancers (yes, I am delighted to announce that many of them were even wearing Pink Tutus!), twirled around to the tune of an enchanting medieval ballad, and they brought the story of the Prague Spring, a significant turning point in the country’s history, to life!

Now, let's not forget the quintessential Prague experience: indulging in delicious Czech cuisine, like dumplings and hearty stews (I may have gone for an extra serving!), and a trip to the famous Trdelník stands for the most amazing, warm pastries, and for something truly divine, I highly recommend visiting the charming café "U Medvídků" (The Little Bear) in the Old Town – I spent a blissful afternoon enjoying a steaming mug of Czech beer and a delectable slice of their famous cheesecake, feeling every bit the bohemian traveller.

So, if you're ever craving a slice of Europe, look no further than the majestic, vibrant and charming city of Prague. I'd go back in a heartbeat, or should I say, in a twirl, my darling, in my trusty pink tutu of course. Oh, Prague, you've simply stolen my heart!

And, my dearest blog readers, I’ve saved the best for last… this coming Saturday, I have a ballet performance myself. I’ll be showcasing a beautiful and, of course, pink tutu themed ballet – a contemporary interpretation of "The Nutcracker." I'm so excited! This is how I support my love for travel and shopping – by pouring all my heart and soul onto the stage! I hope to see some of you there.

I leave you now with a tip to add to your own little "pink tutu adventure" checklist: Pick up a little pink feather boa on your travels! It’s perfect for an impromptu ballerina photoshoot, as I learnt during my adventures around the charming old city. You know, it’s amazing how these little additions can transform an ordinary snapshot into a fabulous and fashionable moment! Until next week, my loves.

XOXO

Emma

Emma's Prague Pink Tutu Picks (What to Do in Prague 1996)

Fashion & Beauty:

  • Prague Fashion Week (This runs in mid-July): Oh my! If you're a fashion fanatic, you MUST see this. Prague has such unique style and designers are using fabrics you won't see anywhere else. Remember, I spotted my perfect new Pink Tutu, and I have my eye on a new pair of ruby-red leather gloves with beautiful gold filigree.
  • Prague Market: Grab a handmade purse from the local market! It will add a dash of vintage style to your wardrobe and it is very good quality leather. Be sure to take some fabulous photos to show your friends – it's a wonderful backdrop to your new favourite pink tutu!
  • Boutique Boutiques: This is where you need to be for one-off statement pieces for your wardrobe!
  • Visit the Prague Ballet Shop: A haven for all things ballet – find your new tutus and leotards! They have the perfect colours – from pink to every shade of pastel, darling, and beautiful quality, of course!
  • Treat Yourself to a Manicure: Indulge yourself in one of Prague's amazing salons. This is a little secret I found - they have amazing, stylish nail art - they call it nail "Art Deco". So stylish, just like you!

Sightseeing & Entertainment:

  • Prague Castle: Just amazing! Be sure to stroll across the Charles Bridge with your camera at the ready for all the amazing angles.
  • National Theatre: It’s all about that architectural wonder, the opulence! If you’re like me and you are just as keen on the building and architecture as the shows themselves, be sure to take some fabulous snaps with your new pink tutu as the backdrop!
  • Old Town Square: Just step back in time and let your imagination wander! This is also where you will see some magical historic performances, which have become a real draw in recent years. You simply have to witness the grandeur of the Prague Spring, all set against a backdrop of 16th-century Prague. The beauty!
  • The Astronomical Clock: A MUST!
  • Enjoy a relaxing ride: Head down to the Vltava river – one of the most gorgeous sights. Hire a boat to get the best view of Prague’s stunning bridges.
  • Try some of those vintage Prague train journeys and feel like you’re a guest of honour! These journeys run along the edge of the river, so you’ll see more gorgeous Prague.
  • Check out the city’s cafes! They are just like something out of a book! Grab a coffee and relax with a great book, you know, perhaps a biography of your favourite ballerina!

Foodie Fun

  • U Medvídků: Just amazing, and you have to have the cheesecake. Darling, it’s heaven on a plate.
  • Czech Cuisine: It is hearty, so come hungry! But make sure to treat yourself to something like “Svíčková”, a divine beef dish, that the locals simply love!
  • Trdelník stands: Oh, darling, this has become my absolute favourite treat. Try a delicious warm one and maybe take a second one away for later! They come with everything from cinnamon and nuts, to even delicious cherries.
  • Try the “Světozor” beer: You’re in Bohemia – have the local brew, darling! You must try this – it’s dark and sweet and so refreshing! They’ll say “Na zdraví!” which means “Cheers!” and of course, that is when you get up and twirl in your Pink Tutu!
  • Visit a Food Market: Be sure to explore some of the city's food markets, where you can taste the delights of Czech food - I recommend heading for the Havelská Market – such fabulous meats, cheeses and produce – delicious! Oh, I forgot! There is a great pink ice-cream stand there! Honestly, just heavenly.
  • A Pink Tutu “Bohemian Picnic" : I just love a relaxed afternoon and a picnic! Prague has the most amazing parks to visit for this – I adore Kampa Island and Letná Park. Pack some goodies and your favourite blanket. But do you know, a perfect addition is always a little pink wicker picnic basket! It’s not only practical but also looks fantastic!
  • *Prague’s Pastry Palace: * Head over to the lovely “Malostranské Náměstí” Square for one of the most perfect cafes in Prague. It’s such a gorgeous spot with some divine cake – just imagine a lovely latte and a raspberry tart!

I hope you have a wonderful time in beautiful Prague! And never forget, darling, your Pink Tutu will ensure you have a magical time wherever you travel.
