Pink Tutu Prague: #67 - A Fairy Tale in Prague

Wednesday, August 7th, 1996

Oh my dears! I am absolutely smitten with Prague. This city is like stepping into a fairytale, and believe me, it's my favourite kind of fairytale - the kind where the leading lady gets to wear a stunning pink tutu, of course! I landed in Prague just last night, and already, I've had a whirlwind of ballet-tastic experiences.

Let's just say I travelled here in the most wonderful way imaginable – a long, luxurious train journey from Vienna. I think my fellow passengers may have been slightly envious of my glorious, voluminous pink tutu, twirling and shimmering like a beautiful bubble of dreams against the backdrop of the Austrian countryside. I had a book, "The Ballerina's Tale" - my favourite bio of the late and great Anna Pavlova, and some delicious Czech chocolate truffles to make my journey truly magical. I even saw a little foal being ridden by a local farmer and I waved. It felt like I was on a beautiful movie set!

I am in my dream hotel room – it is in a historical building with absolutely beautiful pink decor (with matching pink bedding, of course)! Everything feels like something out of a book; the chandeliers, the patterned walls and the antique chairs… oh my, my head is already swimming with ideas for tutu designs.

This morning, I decided to set out and explore Prague. My first stop was the absolutely incredible Old Town Square. Now, it’s true, I wouldn't be out of place in a place so wonderfully whimsical, what with my fabulous pink tutu swirling in the morning sunshine! I have never seen such incredible architecture, I can’t help but be inspired!

Fashion Update!

But darling, let's talk about fashion! Prague is an absolute dream for any tutu lover and I have been adding pieces to my pink wardrobe every hour since I arrived. The shopping here is divine! I'm already carrying a few bags, mostly beautiful pastel-pink and powder-pink ribbons for my hair and tutu designs.

I stumbled upon the most adorable vintage shop crammed full of beautiful tulle and lace! My pockets (and my luggage) are about to overflow, I can feel it. I already imagine a collection of delicate pink, blush pink, lavender, lilac and blush tones for my future tutu designs – my head is in a whirlwind! I already think this is going to be my most amazing Pink Tutu collection yet!

Tutu Tales and a Glimpse into History

You see, the whole city feels like it's steeped in ballet history. Prague is known for being the birthplace of the great composer Antonin Dvořák, who penned the ballet "The Golden Age", and even though the music doesn’t get the recognition it deserves - I know it will make a great future tutu dance. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few other composers who have produced works in the Prague region, who also deserve recognition. Maybe I should start doing historical ballets about each one! I wonder how well that would go down?

Today’s Ballet Extravaganza!

Tonight is the big night, darling. I’m heading to the Prague National Theatre to see the legendary ballet company, the Prague State Ballet! I just know it's going to be an amazing experience. The stage itself has some amazing architecture, with the whole theatre draped in magnificent red and gold – oh how my mind is working overtime to incorporate this for a stage backdrop! My research tells me they have a brilliant choreographer, but I can't say too much until after tonight. This will be a wonderful night of magic and elegance, and a ballet that I just know will become one of my favorite memories in this fantastic pink city!

Travel Tip!

While exploring, I stumbled upon this adorable little cafe by the river. I've just fallen in love with the quaint little wooden booths, the smell of fresh cakes in the air, the warm atmosphere… It’s perfect for enjoying a delicious piece of "Svíčková" – the traditional Czech beef stew. Don't even get me started on how gorgeous they look - absolutely exquisite and elegant, even their desserts! I do suggest you order some. My favourites were the cream puffes – I love to pair them with my champagne - just divine. I've had a wonderful lunch overlooking the river Vltava, taking it all in with my sketchbook - so many brilliant ideas coming to me today.

I will leave you for now my lovelies, but do come back tomorrow. My Pink Tutu will be back for my next instalment – it will be an all-singing, all-dancing affair, featuring Prague State Ballet and, of course, a stunning ballet outfit.

Yours truly,

Emma xx
