Prague: Where Dreams Swirl in a Pink Tutu āØ (Post #68)
Hello darlings! š©° Itās Wednesday, which means a brand new post on www.pink-tutu.com and, for this week, I'm whisking you all off to the enchanting city of Prague! Let me tell you, the romance in the air is so thick, even the cobbled streets feel like theyāre twirling in a waltz!
Remember last week, I was talking about my latest performance for the Derbyshire Ballet Company, where I literally danced my heart out in a new pink tutu? It was a triumphant performance, but also a farewell - you see, a certain pink-tutu-loving ballerina couldnāt resist the allure of Prague and a chance to soak in all the history, the culture, and yes, the fantastic fashion that this stunning city has to offer!
Speaking of travelling, did I tell you I finally conquered my fear of travelling by train? Honestly, my fellow tutu wearers, I have been living under a rock! Train travel is pure magic. The rhythm of the wheels on the track, the glimpse of passing landscapes, it all makes me want to leap out of the carriage and twirl in a field of sunflowers! (Though, I might save that for a different blog postā¦)
Now, about the pony! Thatās how I travelled into the heart of Prague itself. Yes, darling, a pony!
(A side note, darling. If youāve ever been to Prague and know the perfect place to take a pony ride, tell me all about it in the comments!)
Anyway, my charming and incredibly fashionable (I may have insisted!) groom took me through the city, past fairytale-like buildings with intricate turrets, and through charming squares buzzing with life. Honestly, I swear I could practically smell the history hanging in the air ā every corner seemed to tell a story!
Speaking of stories, we arrived at my absolute favourite Prague destination, the National Theatre. Imagine, darlings, a theatre dedicated entirely to opera, ballet and drama, all built in a glorious blend of architectural styles! Now, if that isnāt a dream come true, I don't know what is!
The sheer grandeur of it left me breathless. It was built back in the late 1800s, and they had a gala night celebrating the 120th anniversary! Oh my gosh, can you even imagine the energy? You could practically hear the music vibrating in the cobbled streets.
But the grand opening in 1881 was no fairytale, you see! It had to be rebuilt a second time because of a devastating fire. The stories in this building, and on its very walls, are so rich, it's like a history book that you can physically touch. It was also a source of political resistance! The building had an interesting influence in the events of the āPrague Springā in 1968. We are all just a little bit inspired by Prague's artistic revolution.
Speaking of revolutionary spirit, I also found a lovely boutique with all kinds of pink tutu-like outfits! They had silk skirts, ballerina shoes, lacey blouses and even the most amazing sequined top ā the kind that sparkles under stage lights. Of course, I just had to snap up a couple of pieces. A girl's got to be prepared, donāt you agree?
But that wasnāt all. My Prague adventure led me to Old Town Square, which was simply breathtaking. I could feel the past buzzing with energy! You have to go, darling! They had charming medieval buildings that felt as if theyād been lifted straight out of a fairytale. But even amongst all that grandeur, one detail stole my heart: a beautiful Baroque fountain with sculptures that almost seemed to come to life.
The highlight of the day had to be the ballet performance, though. It was a classic performance of āThe Sleeping Beautyā and my toes were positively twitching in the auditorium! There were beautiful sets, incredible costumes and an absolutely amazing performance by a talented ensemble! Honestly, it had all the elegance and magic you could ever dream of. I couldnāt resist jumping up for a curtain callā¦ and you know what? I might have even caught the eye of one of the ballet dancers! š
While the actual ballet itself is what brought me to Prague, I'm not going to lie - I did indulge in some sightseeing during my time here! Did you know thereās an iconic clock tower in the centre of Prague? Well, darlings, I finally managed to catch the Astrological Clock doing its thing ā an elaborate parade of figures and astronomical symbols that move to the sounds of church bells! So mesmerizing!
I even managed to fit in a tour of Prague Castle! Can you imagine, darling, walking through ancient history ā courtyards, towers, gardens? It felt as though I had stepped back in time and was suddenly attending a grand ball in a historical setting. I almost expected a dashing prince to appear!
And before I left, I even had to indulge my love for all things pink and twirly with a delicious and perfectly pink strawberry milkshake! Now that's what I call a fairytale ending to a wonderful day in Prague!
Oh, darlings, there's still so much more to share about Prague! Next week Iām going to tell you all about where I had lunch, what I wore, and about all the exciting details I've learned about the history of ballet in this incredible city! So make sure you come back and join me again next Wednesday! āØ
* Until then, darling, happy twirling! š*
