Prague: Where Pink Tutues Dance! - Post #143

Hello, lovelies! It's Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-adoring, ballet-obsessed blogger, back with another delightful diary entry! Today I'm writing to you from the magical city of Prague, where the cobblestone streets are paved with dreams and the air is filled with the whispers of waltzes and the swirling magic of tutus!

Prague - A Ballet Lover's Paradise

Prague is, dare I say, a city that understands the power of pink and tutus. From the majestic architecture that looks straight out of a ballet performance to the charming cafes brimming with Bohemian elegance, this city feels like it's ready to pirouette into my heart. And believe me, my darlings, it has.

As you know, I’ve recently had the wonderful fortune of travelling to Paris, Rome, Venice, Amsterdam, Madrid and Berlin and every city is simply magnificent but Prague has something truly special - a sense of history and fairytale charm that you just don’t find anywhere else.

Today, however, we're diving deep into the ballet scene in Prague, a world brimming with beauty, passion, and – of course – pink!

Tutu Time in the Czech Republic

My dear readers, let me tell you, I've been spending all week exploring this city, getting lost in the maze of winding streets, finding little tucked-away tea rooms and watching every single ballet performance I could find.

Prague's ballet scene is truly extraordinary. The city boasts two main ballet companies – the Czech National Ballet and the Ballet Theatre Prague. While each company holds a special place in the city’s cultural heart, I just love how different their approach is, so be sure to check them both out.

The Czech National Ballet, established in 1945, has a strong emphasis on tradition and classical ballets, drawing you into the grand world of Giselle, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty. I absolutely fell in love with their rendition of "Swan Lake," with its stunning costumes, breathtaking choreography, and, of course, those fabulous, flowing tutus that made me swoon. It was simply mesmerizing!

The Ballet Theatre Prague is known for a bit more experimental approach, blending classic ballets with contemporary pieces that are full of creative energy. I enjoyed their interpretation of "Cinderella," with its whimsical, modern choreography, using ballet techniques we can all understand, such as the port de bras, to add a new level of sophistication to a well-known story.

Of course, if you’re lucky enough to be here on the 21st of January, which coincidentally happens to be today, then I'd recommend the Pink Tutu Prague ballet show, which is always held at the wonderful National Theatre on the Vltava riverfront. This magical show was first performed in 1998, and the company is dedicated to giving everyone the chance to perform - if you want to be involved, it really is all about participation! Who doesn’t love a good participatory experience, eh?

From Stage to Streets: Tutu Inspiration on Prague's Pavement

But ballet doesn't just live within the walls of these glorious theatres. You'll find it swirling and twirling all around you in Prague. The streets of this city are literally a runway for fashionistas and those seeking something special - like myself!

One thing that I simply love about Prague are its charming vintage shops. There are hundreds to choose from, selling everything from beautiful handmade dresses to old theatrical costumes. This is an absolute must-do for me every trip. There are lots to explore in Old Town Square but you’ll also find great hidden gems in Lesser Town, too!

I just discovered the most divine little boutique called “Prague Threads.” It is crammed to the rafters with old-fashioned loveliness. I discovered the most stunning powder pink chiffon dress - a perfect statement for a Prague ballet soirée!

Don't forget your camera! Prague is so incredibly beautiful! The buildings here look like something out of a fairy tale and make a magnificent backdrop for any ballerina photo op - be it twirling in front of the Charles Bridge, posing against a wall painted a delicious shade of rose, or capturing the magical ambiance of a Prague evening in a pink tulle cloud of loveliness.

Prague is just waiting for a ballerina like me to step in, explore its cobbled corners and tell its stories to the world. So ladies and gents, be inspired by my adventures and don't hesitate to share your experiences of this amazing city with me, just use #PinkTutuPrague - the more stories, the better.

And as always, remember: if there's ever a question in your mind about whether or not to wear a pink tutu, the answer is always yes!

See you next week!

Yours always,

Emma x
