Prague, My Love, Prague! (Post #204)

Bonjour, mes amies! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means - it's time for another Pink Tutu Prague post! I'm absolutely giddy to be sharing this week's adventure with you all. As you know, I'm in Prague, the city of a hundred spires, where the architecture is breathtaking and the cobbled streets whisper stories of centuries past. But honestly, the biggest joy of this trip so far has been rediscovering the magic of ballet in a whole new setting.

It's been a whirlwind of activity, let me tell you! This past week has been a delicious mix of elegant explorations, beautiful ballet shows, and, of course, some absolutely divine shopping. I've been waltzing around in my pink tutu like a proper fairytale princess, turning heads and spreading smiles wherever I go. The Czechs are so charming and have a wonderful sense of whimsy – they adore a good bit of pink! I even managed to get a local shopkeeper to trade me a stunning hand-painted porcelain doll for my most fabulous tutu – it’s a true collector’s item, and I couldn’t resist its porcelain charm.

Oh, but before I go off on another shopping tangent, I have to tell you about the absolutely glorious ballet performance I saw on Thursday. It was "The Pink Flamingo" by the Prague Ballet Ensemble. It's not a traditional ballet - it was a bold and beautiful contemporary dance piece set against a backdrop of modern Prague, which added an extra touch of intrigue. I even spotted some gorgeous vintage tutus woven into the costume design. You know how I feel about vintage tutus – pure perfection!

The performance was an incredible emotional rollercoaster. It took us from whimsical joy to heartfelt introspection and back again. I found myself completely absorbed in the intricate choreography, the fluidity of movement, and the expressive artistry of the dancers. Every muscle in their bodies was so incredibly controlled, every leap so effortlessly elegant - it was pure magic!

Afterwards, I treated myself to a slice of the most delicious almond-and-honey cake in a cafe tucked away in the heart of Old Town. I love how this city breathes history; I even managed to stumble upon the charming House at the Black Madonna – a must-see for anyone visiting Prague. Imagine a beautiful 13th-century building decorated in the iconic Art Nouveau style. A proper blend of ancient charm and modern grace – a perfect metaphor for my whole Prague experience.

But enough about my cultural discoveries – you all want to hear about my tutu adventures, right? I’ve had my eye on the most incredible shop in Prague - “The Ballerina’s Wardrobe”, just around the corner from the Old Town Square. It's packed full of the most delightful vintage ballet items, including an amazing collection of tutus! Imagine silk tutus from the early 20th century with hand-sewn beads and lace details, and the most fabulous tulle tutus that twirled perfectly, capturing the very essence of movement and dance.

I spent what felt like an eternity there, just soaking it all in, running my hands across the softest silks, and feeling the whispers of history clinging to each thread. It was a tutu lover’s dream!

Of course, I couldn't leave empty-handed. I picked up a stunning silk tutu from the early 1950s, perfect for a summer evening stroll under the starry Prague sky. And wouldn't you know it, the shop owner was incredibly excited about my own pink tutus. He even complimented me on how well I’m doing with the "Pink Tutu Revolution." He even promised me he’d be the first in Prague to join the pink tutu movement - it seems the pink tutu magic is spreading across the continent!

This week's trip was more than just exploring Prague. It was about connecting with the very soul of dance in a place that whispers of tradition while embracing the avant-garde. Prague has captivated me with its stories of the past, the beauty of its architecture, and the electrifying energy of its people. And, of course, it's been the perfect setting to share my passion for all things pink and tutu-ific!

And, speaking of tutus... did you know that the tutu originated from the ballet shoes worn by the first ballerinas? This was back in the early 18th century. Their shoes were simple fabric affairs that hugged their feet, then, when the romantic tutu – a loose and flowing garment – was introduced, it was simply an extension of those same shoes! Isn't it fascinating? That's ballet history for you!

This Saturday, I'm venturing off on a little trip to the countryside to see some beautiful historical castles - I'm looking forward to snapping some Instagram-worthy shots for you all! Oh, and, as always, you can expect some gorgeous new pink tutu outfits on the blog.

So, my lovely readers, until next week, remember - there's always time for a little dance! Stay bright, stay twirly, and let your inner ballerina shine!

Yours truly,

Emma xx
