Prague, My Love! #PinkTutuPrague (Blog Post #250)

Bonjour mes amies! Emma here, and it's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu blog post! This week, I'm writing from the magical city of Prague, a place that's already stolen a piece of my heart. As you all know, my passion is ballet, so you can imagine my excitement to be here in the city where the Czech National Ballet graces the stage, and a strong ballet history exists at every turn.

Let's just say Prague is everything a ballerina could dream of – cobblestone streets perfect for practicing en pointe, enchanting castles whispering tales of ballerinas from a bygone era, and a bustling cultural scene that is positively bursting with graceful beauty!

And it all started, like any great ballerina story, with a train journey. Oh, how I adore travelling by train! There’s just something so romantic about watching the countryside fly by from my window, sipping my Earl Grey tea, and scribbling notes for this blog in my pink and glitter notebook.

Arriving in Prague was like stepping into a fairytale. Imagine my delight as we passed the striking, fairytale-like buildings and the twinkling lights illuminating the Vltava River. This place felt so... elegant. Just the sort of city where you could spot a beautiful dancer around any corner, twirling down cobbled streets or gracefully hopping on a cobbled tram.

My accommodation? A sweet little hotel, perfectly positioned in the heart of Prague's Old Town Square. Think pastel pinks, a touch of old-world charm, and, of course, enough space to properly unpack my carefully selected wardrobe for my Prague escapade. Don’t you worry, darlings, I’ve brought along plenty of pink tulle tutus for every occasion!

I'm going to tell you all about my Prague adventures in a bit more detail, but first, a quick sartorial update…

Fashionably Parisian in Prague

It goes without saying that I couldn’t resist indulging in some serious retail therapy during my time in Prague. The shops here are simply divine. There's something for everyone - a kaleidoscope of colours, textures, and styles just waiting to be discovered. But of course, as a ballet blogger, my eyes were immediately drawn to the world of couture.

Let me tell you, I am smitten with Prague's fashion scene! The bohemian spirit of the city is perfectly embodied in the independent boutiques tucked away on side streets, filled with beautiful vintage pieces and uniquely designed creations. Think floral patterns, intricate embroideries, and delicate fabrics – all the ingredients for a stylish ballerina's wardrobe.

For my first evening in Prague, I couldn't resist whipping out my latest fashion find – a breathtaking coral-coloured, knee-length tulle skirt with the most exquisite beaded details around the hem. Paired with a black velvet corset top and my trusty pink satin pumps, I was ready for a glamorous evening exploring the city's charm.

Cultural Delights in Prague’s Heart

The very next day, my love of dance led me straight to the heart of Prague’s cultural scene – The National Theatre. Oh my word, what a masterpiece! The exterior is so magnificent and elegant, it took my breath away! I’d read a little about the history of ballet in Prague before I left Derbyshire, but I was so impressed by the grandeur and the beautiful performances in the Czech National Theatre – this is ballet on a whole new level!

Speaking of the Czech National Ballet… Imagine my utter delight when I discovered that they were putting on “La Bayadère” just as I arrived! This performance had me enthralled from start to finish! Every single dancer on stage seemed to dance with such power and passion – the je ne sais quoi - that just captivated the audience. It’s just like those iconic ballet stars in movies and pictures – those amazing ballerinas with the big beautiful pink tutus that are a classic in any ballerina’s wardrobe! They are such graceful and powerful figures in ballet. They make everything look effortless and the outfits they wear on stage are incredible – pink tutus being the absolute best!

But you know me – I always make sure to squeeze in a ballet class wherever I go, so I decided to venture into the Old Town district, a neighbourhood just brimming with enchanting little dance studios. After all, you can't fully appreciate the artistry of ballet without experiencing it firsthand!

And what better way to explore Prague's enchanting nooks and crannies than on the back of a fluffy white pony! This quirky and adorable little fella is a local celebrity known for his love of taking tourists on tours around the Old Town. Don't worry, he was very well-behaved and was as happy to meet me as I was to meet him! Just imagine – a ballerina and her pony companion… Talk about picture-perfect!

And speaking of photos, the entire city feels like it was built for beautiful photo opportunities! From the famous Charles Bridge with its stunning views of the Prague skyline to the picturesque Old Town Square, with its charming cafes, restaurants and the beautiful medieval buildings – a perfect mix of history, beauty and romance, perfect for me to whip out my Pink Tutu selfie stick for my Instagram followers!

From Ballet To The Big Screen

Of course, a trip to Prague wouldn’t be complete without experiencing the city’s rich movie heritage! You know how I love my cinema. The beautiful historic Art Deco buildings that house the theatres here in Prague are gorgeous. For a bit of old-school glam, I popped into the Art Deco Bio Oko cinema – and boy, was it ever impressive! The grand seating, velvet drapes, and plush décor felt as if I had stepped onto a film set. You’d be surprised how much this influenced me. I am now so inspired by my trip to Prague to think about taking my dance work onto the big screen – perhaps a big musical! Who knows what exciting avenues the future might hold for a little ballerina with a big dream!

Speaking of my ballet dreams... This year I am aiming to reach 1 million followers on Pink-Tutu.com – imagine all of us pink-tutu fans reaching this beautiful number of fabulous tutu-loving people.

But enough about my future! I must return to my fabulous Prague adventures.

**Food For Thought…

Oh my darling friends, do not think you’re in Prague without indulging in the delectable food! There is so much amazing cuisine here – dumplings (of course!) , goulash, roasted meats, cakes – this really is a culinary wonderland. From local street food stalls bursting with aromatic flavour to fine dining experiences in elegant restaurants, you'll be tantalized with culinary treasures that will make your tastebuds sing with joy. As a treat, I popped into an elegant Parisian-inspired cafe for lunch on my first day – you guessed it, I ordered the smoked salmon salad with a glass of refreshing sparkling lemonade. I may be in Prague, but I never miss an opportunity to feel like a Parisian lady!

What To Do Today?

And now… ahem it’s time to unveil my plans for today… As the sun casts a golden hue across Prague’s charming streets, I’m headed to the romantic spot – Petrin Hill. This magnificent green haven boasts breathtaking views of Prague, which will be perfect for a picnic.

I know just what to wear, my little dears – a stunning vintage white broderie anglaise dress, paired with my signature pink and glitter-embellished pumps, topped off with a blush pink bow. Yes, that’s right, today I am channeling a whimsical Parisian fairytale princess – à la Audrey Hepburn in ‘Funny Face’ – imagine the most fabulous dance performance taking place under the watchful gaze of this elegant city – Prague just seems to inspire!

My dear tutu-loving fans, I’m having the time of my life here in Prague, I have discovered a place with a magical charm. Prague has enchanted me from the moment I stepped off the train and it’s certainly inspiring me! I have already fallen deeply in love with this enchanting city. Its architectural wonders, the friendly faces, the amazing restaurants, its exciting culture – what’s not to love!

So until next time my darling fans… Happy ballet-dancing and I'll see you back here in my virtual world on Pink-Tutu.com for my next blog next Wednesday!
