Prague in Pink: A Ballerina's Whirl Through the City of a Hundred Spires (Post #264)

Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another pink-tutu-tastic post from your favourite ballerina blogger! This week, I'm writing to you from the enchanting city of Prague, where the cobblestone streets are echoing with the waltz of history and the air is alive with the spirit of romance. And guess what? I'm wearing a pink tutu! It just wouldn't be right to be in such a beautiful city without my favourite ensemble.

Prague, You're a Dream!

The journey from Derbyshire to Prague was absolutely magical. I travelled by train, which, for me, is the most elegant way to travel. The views of the countryside flitted by like a montage of Impressionist paintings. I felt like a character in a classic novel, travelling to a distant land.

My arrival in Prague was just as charming. As I stepped out of the station, the old city's architectural wonders came into focus – the intricate spires, the Baroque facades, the charming bridges. I instantly felt at home, like a swan landing gracefully in a pond of cobblestone.

Shopping for a Princess in Pink

The first order of business was to find some local treasures to add to my wardrobe. I have a thing for delicate lace, vintage-inspired dresses, and everything pastel. Prague was like a dream come true! I discovered the most charming boutiques, nestled in quaint alleys, filled with delicate silks and lace.

One of my favourite shops was called "Prague Couture" where I found a stunning pink tulle skirt that perfectly complemented my pink tutu! The owner was such a lovely woman, and she gave me a whole history lesson about Prague’s fashion scene - something I was particularly interested in. I later discovered that Prague was actually a fashion hub in the early 1900s! I’m so tempted to write a whole blog post about that – who knows, maybe next week!

Pink Tutus in the City of Kings and Queens

Of course, Prague is renowned for its historical architecture, and let's be honest, my favourite thing about history is the fashion! So, my first visit was to Prague Castle. The architecture was incredible, from the mighty St. Vitus Cathedral to the elegant Golden Lane – you really do feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale! As I strolled through the cobblestone squares, I imagined princesses in silk gowns and nobles in elaborate breeches – but it also made me think about the evolution of the tutu! Just imagine the hoops and bustle underneath their grand attire! It was definitely food for thought, especially as I contemplated my upcoming trip to the National Theatre.

Speaking of the National Theatre, I had the most amazing evening at a ballet performance. It was like a dream! The dancers moved with such grace and elegance, telling a story entirely through their bodies. The choreography was intricate, like a series of flowing ribbons, the costumes exquisite. There's something truly magical about watching ballet performed live, it's a true celebration of artistry and movement, something I can fully relate to with my ballet background. It made me want to dust off my own dancing shoes and grace the stage with my pink tutu. After the performance, I was practically dancing through the cobbled streets myself! I just adore this city, it's a symphony of history, culture and romance.

From Pink Tutus to Pastel Delights

I know you’re probably wondering about what I ate in Prague! As a ballet dancer, it’s essential to be mindful of my diet – and what a delightful discovery this was: Prague is a haven for delicious food. My favourite meal was definitely the Trdelnik! It’s a pastry with the most wonderful texture - like fluffy bread but with a caramelized crispy coating. I enjoyed mine with cinnamon, but apparently they do tons of flavours. It was almost as good as my new lace dress! And of course, I sampled a few Prague delicacies, like Czech dumplings and smoked meats. They were so good that I might be tempted to dance in a slightly bigger pink tutu tomorrow.

Travel Tip: Prague, a City for Every Kind of Tutu!

You'll have no problem finding your own bit of magic in Prague! Whether you're a lover of grand architecture, a history buff, or an art aficionado, this city has something to offer you. You can lose yourself in the maze of cobbled streets, discover hidden gems like the Lennon Wall, explore the mystical atmosphere of the Old Town Square, and ride a whimsical gondola boat down the Vltava River. And, if you're anything like me, don't forget to grab a souvenir pink tutu, like the one I found in the Old Town Market!

I'll be sharing more about my Prague adventures next week! Until then, darlings, remember: it’s never too late to twirl into your most fashionable pink tutu and embark on your own journey to this beautiful city. Don’t forget to check out my website www.pink-tutu.com, there’s lots to see and, as always, you can get in touch!
