Pink Tutu Prague: Post 265 - Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of a Hundred Spires

Hello darlings, and welcome to another thrilling Wednesday from yours truly, Emma! This week, I'm absolutely buzzing to be whisking you all off on a ballet-tastic adventure to Prague, the glorious city of a hundred spires.

For this week's post, I'm putting on my very fanciest, fluffiest, pinkest tutu (naturally!), because I'm diving headfirst into a weekend of dazzling ballet. You see, I recently completed a delightful tour around the beautiful English countryside performing a series of my own slightly interpretive versions of classical ballets, and all that twirling had left me yearning for something truly magnificent - the grand spectacle of a true ballet masterpiece in a magnificent venue! And where better to do this than the jewel of the Czech Republic, Prague?

Prague, the Ballet-Lover's Dream

Honestly, darlings, the city is utterly enchanting! Prague oozes a fairytale charm, a whimsical elegance that absolutely begs to be spun through in a delightful pink tutu. Every corner boasts breathtaking architecture, from towering gothic cathedrals to pastel-coloured buildings that look like they've been plucked straight from a Disney movie. You could spend weeks here exploring and I guarantee you'd still discover something new and wonderful.

But my dear readers, you know I'm here for more than just the sights (though, those are stunning!) Today, it's all about the ballet, darling, all about the ballet!

Ballet's Grand Debut in Prague

Believe it or not, ballet actually first took root in Prague back in the 16th century. Now, before you start picturing the dancers in sensible shoes and skirts, remember: even back then, it was all about elegance and grand spectacle. Court dancers performed for the Bohemian royalty and nobles, wearing ornate costumes (a pink tutu for everyone! Can you imagine?) and twirling with grace and flair. You know, that kind of performance that leaves you speechless, but also wanting to run home and put on your tutu and swirl around your living room!

Fast forward to today, and Prague is a true ballet haven. It boasts the National Theatre, with its spectacular Neo-Renaissance design, and the stunning State Opera, offering audiences a unique blend of classic and contemporary ballet performances. You’ll find smaller ballet studios and dance schools tucked away in the city’s cobblestone streets as well, where budding young dancers practice their leaps and arabesques, fueling their own ballet dreams.

Tonight’s Spectacle: “Swan Lake”

And to mark the start of this magical ballet escapade, we're headed to see "Swan Lake"! Oh darling, Swan Lake is absolutely breathtaking. Just the music, it’s a swirling symphony of emotions, telling the timeless tale of love, betrayal, and, of course, the beauty of a swan's graceful movements. You really have to see it for yourself to truly experience its magical storytelling. And trust me, wearing a pink tutu in a theater filled with so much drama is the only way to go!

Speaking of drama, this performance is extra special, featuring the world-renowned ballerina, Isabella Rava, who I have been dreaming of seeing for months now. You see, this performance is part of her grand world tour showcasing her new, exquisitely expressive interpretation of "Swan Lake." Everyone is saying this is the must-see performance of the year. It's enough to make even my ballet heart flutter a bit!

More Adventures and the All-Important Tutu Shopping!

But before we get lost in the twirls of Swan Lake, let’s take a moment to revel in the beautiful city of Prague. Tomorrow, we’re going to be hopping on a little horse-drawn carriage, for a delightful jaunt through the Old Town Square and to explore the charming Charles Bridge. Did you know it’s one of the oldest bridges in Europe, with baroque statues and incredible views over the city? And of course, I’ll be posting photos on Instagram, with a full run down of our fashion choices for the trip – don’t forget to check it out!

And naturally, my visit to Prague wouldn't be complete without indulging in a little bit of retail therapy, especially when it comes to finding the perfect pink tutus. So, my darling readers, get ready for some tutu shopping and a fashion update in my next post. Stay tuned to www.pink-tutu.com, and you won’t miss a moment!
