Pink Tutu Prague: A Whirlwind of Culture and Couture - Post #268

Bonjour mes amies!

The sunshine is practically blinding here in Prague! It's one of those days that makes you want to skip and twirl in a perfectly pink tutu – just like yours truly! 🩰 This week, I'm transporting you, my dearest readers, to the heart of Bohemia, where the cobbled streets whisper tales of ancient kings and emperors, and the river Vltava sings a melancholic yet magical song. It’s time for a ballet adventure!

From Derbyshire to Prague, a Tutu’s Journey

I arrived in Prague by train, naturally. Nothing beats a journey on a steaming engine, especially when your travelling ensemble is as glamorous as a perfectly pink tutu! (With a hint of gold sequined details, of course, just a smidge to enhance the sparkle.) It was a most pleasant trip, filled with views of rolling fields and quaint villages – all from my perfect window seat. And of course, I couldn't resist indulging in some light reading from my overflowing travel bag. It just wouldn't be a proper Emma adventure without a selection of vintage ballet books and a worn copy of 'Tutus Throughout Time', my little pink-covered treasure.

My Prague Dream Wardrobe:

Oh my dear friends, let me tell you, Prague is a paradise for fashion! I spent a good chunk of Tuesday afternoon lost in a kaleidoscope of antique lace, brocade and velvet in the shops near the Old Town Square. Can you imagine a tutu made of these exquisite fabrics? Imagine a skirt of rich plum brocade with shimmering emerald trim, layered with a cobweb-like antique lace tulle… my mind is practically swirling! I even snagged a beautiful blush pink feather boa, for a dash of extra flair to my already-fabulous outfit.

A Little History Lesson:

Prague boasts centuries of architectural beauty and artistic history – an absolutely irresistible combination for a girl who adores the finer things in life. We walked around the Charles Bridge, where each side of the river bursts with vibrant historical buildings, a charming mix of Baroque and Gothic styles. This city is a feast for the senses! We learned all about its famous astronomical clock – with a clock tower and statues – built by the master clockmaker Hanus, who was known as the ‘Man of Gold.’

Prague Castle, the most prominent tourist spot in the entire country, is another must-see for history buffs. It is built upon a plateau just outside the centre of the city, with panoramic views over Prague’s city centre. A little more recent history can be found in the Jewish Quarter and Old Town Square. It's almost enough to make me want to grab my tutu and perform a mini dance number right there! But then I remember – it’s all about respect and saving your moves for the stage!

A Magical Evening at the Ballet

Of course, a trip to Prague wouldn’t be complete without a night at the ballet! Tonight we are lucky enough to be witnessing the iconic Giselle, the famous Romantic ballet. I couldn't wait to step into the luxurious setting of the Prague State Opera – just imagine a grand building glimmering with crystal chandeliers! It's absolutely fabulous! The opera is a perfect backdrop for an exquisite evening with ballet!

And oh, the costumes are beyond magnificent. You could easily find a perfectly pink tutu somewhere in this incredible performance. From the shimmering white and gold for the Queen’s costumes to the ethereal white tutus worn by the wilis, the dancers’ elegance is only enhanced by the extraordinary craftsmanship of the costumes! My head practically spun from the beauty!

Prague’s Magical Essence:

The magic of this city isn't just found in its palaces and its historical stories, it’s also in the gentle flow of the Vltava River, and in the cosy cafes filled with laughter and warmth. It’s in the way locals seem to have this peaceful charm about them – a slow, sweet, graceful spirit.

I hope you’ve enjoyed joining me for this adventure through Prague – a city bursting with culture and an elegant charm that whispers of elegance and beauty. I promise you, this journey has been more than simply visiting a city – it’s been a tutu’s delight!

Until next time my dear readers – always wear your smile as big as your tutu!

Emma
