Pink Tutu Prague: A whirl of tutus and charm!

#PinkTutuPrague - Post #315 - Wednesday 9th May 2001

Hello my lovely tutufillies! 🩰

Can you believe it? We’re in Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires! I’m absolutely besotted. From the moment we stepped off the train, the cobblestone streets seemed to whisper tales of waltzing royalty and elegant ladies in their finery. And of course, no trip to Prague is complete without a pink tutu! I’m quite certain even the swans on the Charles Bridge have seen my outfit. They've been giving me some rather pointed looks! 😉

Prague feels like stepping into a fairytale – the colourful buildings, the ancient clock tower, the charming little bridges… I could spend hours just wandering the streets, taking it all in. But alas, we’ve got a packed agenda of ballet delights, a bit of shopping for a new pink tutu, and, naturally, the hunt for a perfectly sweet cafe to indulge in a slice of Czech cake!

Ballet Beginnings

So, the main event! Today’s performance was at the National Theatre, a breathtaking architectural masterpiece. We went for the classic Swan Lake. I felt completely swept away by the elegance and power of the dancers, particularly the graceful swan's pas de deux.

It got me thinking, my lovely readers, about how long tutus have been around! Apparently, the tutu as we know it was born in the mid-19th century, as the length of ballet skirts got progressively shorter, becoming more about elegance than coverage! Talk about a fashion statement! Before the tutu, ballerinas danced in long, trailing skirts which were a lot more cumbersome. Honestly, who'd have the energy for a pirouette in those? I'm quite sure the elegant women of the 19th century would have been jealous of my fluffy, pink dream! 😉

A Pink Tutu Dream

Of course, no trip to a European city is complete without a shopping expedition, and I was on the hunt for the perfect pink tutu for my Prague escapade. We visited some truly lovely boutiques in the Old Town square, brimming with the most exquisite lace and embroidery. The perfect place to find a delicate fabric to whip up a custom-made creation. I even found some beautiful blush pink shoes with silver buckles that look stunning with my pink tulle! They just had to come home with me!

Prague with a Pony?

After my tutu-themed afternoon, we hopped on a traditional carriage ride! It’s a great way to see the city. We had the most handsome, black steed with a magnificent flowing mane, almost like a ballet horse! (Except for the bits about snorting and chewing on the leather, perhaps… ) But truly, a carriage ride feels utterly magical. Like riding through a painting, especially with Prague's dreamy lighting!

We decided to explore the Old Town further. There were buskers playing traditional Czech music in every square, making me want to twirl on the cobblestones in my pink tutu, but I was trying to be dignified! 😊

And now, dear readers, it’s time for a much-deserved glass of local Czech beer and to catch a bit of opera (yes, the entire city is singing here!), as I continue my exploration of this vibrant and truly fascinating city. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Keep twirling,

Emma 💕
