Pink Tutu Prague: Ballet, Fashion, and Fairy Tales - Post 332
Hello my dearest Tutu Tribe! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for a new Pink Tutu Prague post! As the saying goes, "A week's a long time in fashion" (and ballet!), so grab a cuppa, pull up a chair in your favourite tutu, and let's dive into another whirlwind week in this magical city.
Remember last week's excitement? I landed in Prague, the city of bridges, fairytale castles, and… ballet? Well, yes, absolutely! Prague may be famous for its historical architecture and beer, but there's also a thriving ballet scene here, which is, naturally, music to my ears!
Speaking of music, how can I not mention my latest acquisition? Remember that fabulous pink feather boa I picked up in Paris last month? It was divine, but now it has a new, even more fabulous partner: a stunning pink tulle shawl from a little boutique near the Old Town Square. This delicate fabric is simply ethereal, and it dances with me as I explore the city! It feels like every step I take is a graceful arabesque, and every photo op is a ballet pose waiting to happen.
But Prague wasn't always filled with pastel shades of pink! This ancient city boasts history dating back to the 10th century, and every stone whispers tales of royalty, war, and even... tutu history!
Now, you know how much I adore tutus, but their story stretches back even further than this glorious city's. The earliest forms of tutu were practical, meant for women in the early days of ballet, helping them move freely and dramatically on stage. But then, in the late 19th century, a revolution happened - Marie Taglioni, a true ballerina legend, appeared in a fluffy white tutu! This ignited a trend towards the tutus we know and love today, showcasing the grace and beauty of the dancer's movements.
But don't just imagine them in your head! Prague's National Theatre has a treasure trove of historical ballet costumes. This is a must-see for anyone who appreciates ballet and costume design, and naturally, I was straight in there, lost in the artistry and history. Imagine, all those elegant tutus and shimmering costumes, holding the memories of generations of dancers! It was like a ballet museum in itself!
Speaking of dance museums, I stumbled across a little gem called the “Museum of the City of Prague” and discovered a delightful display of historical toys and costumes. Now, what has tutus to do with toys, you may ask? Well, darling, in the Victorian era, little girls (and some boys) adored playing with miniature ballets! There was everything from porcelain dolls in tutus to miniature stage sets. Imagine a little girl dreaming of twirling and pirouetting, her little ballerina doll acting out her every graceful move! This really shows just how much the love of ballet is part of childhood – it's a magic that transcends time and fashion trends!
But Prague isn't just about history and museums. On this sunny Wednesday afternoon, I treated myself to a stroll through the bustling Old Town Square. Prague truly does have an old world charm; I love the mix of gothic architecture and vibrant cafes, with musicians playing lively waltzes in the cobbled squares.
This, however, brings us to a tiny confession: while I adore walking, sometimes my feet cry out for a break! Thankfully, a sweet horse-drawn carriage called out to me, and it was truly delightful. The horses trotted majestically through the ancient streets, giving me a perfect perspective on the city from a different vantage point. My own tiny journey resembled a fairytale as the golden sunlight glinted off the ornate buildings, illuminating the scene with an enchanting aura.
Speaking of enchanting, this brings us to tonight's delightful adventure: The Ballet Prague performance at the charming Theatre Hybernia. Tonight's show is "Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky. How could I possibly miss out on this timeless fairytale of love, magic, and of course, ballerinas in exquisite tutus! This is ballet perfection at its finest, and I’ll be back tomorrow with all the inside gossip!
And don't forget to check my Instagram later! I’m going to post some gorgeous shots of the show, the pink shawl, and a peek at Prague’s breathtaking night scene!
Until then, keep twirling! And don’t forget to rock a pink tutu for all the fun events happening in your own town!
Love, Emma x
