Pink Tutu Prague - Blog Post Number 393 - November 6th, 2002

Bonjour, mes amies!

Welcome back to the Pink Tutu Blog, where life is a stage and every day is a performance. This week, I'm whisked away to the enchanting city of Prague! Now, I've heard whispers of this stunning city for ages - "the City of a Hundred Spires," they say, "the Prague Spring, a bohemian jewel." I simply had to experience this fairytale setting for myself.

Of course, as a true devotee to the dance, Prague presented me with a plethora of options - the magical National Theatre, with its opulent Baroque interiors, or the intimate yet exquisite Estates Theatre, known for its remarkable history and its stunning acoustics.

But alas, this trip wasn't solely about ballet. Prague is a city bursting with fashion, beauty, and cultural delights. As I navigated the cobbled streets, I was captivated by the gothic spires reaching towards the sky, the charming cafes with their ornate details, and the quirky shops brimming with treasures waiting to be discovered.

A Fashion Fiesta!

And what's a trip to a European city without indulging in some retail therapy? This time, Prague treated me to a veritable feast for the senses. The city's Old Town Square became my very own personal runway. I danced my way through a labyrinth of independent boutiques, each offering something truly unique.

I confess, I couldn't resist adding to my growing collection of tutus! Found the most stunning pale pink tulle creation at a vintage shop - a true vintage masterpiece. Oh, and the embellishments? Absolutely breathtaking! I can't wait to debut it at my next performance!

But it wasn't just about tutus this time. Prague had a selection of clothing stores that would make even the most discerning fashionista drool. I picked up a beautiful crimson velvet dress from a small, charming shop hidden away on a cobblestone alley. This dress is simply divine, perfect for a special evening out.

Prague Ballet Delights

But back to the reason for this enchanting journey, ballet. I stumbled upon the most extraordinary performance, at the beautiful Estates Theatre, which I believe dates back to 1783, what a remarkable history!

The program was a mixed bill, featuring a selection of ballets, but it was the finale, the grand pas de deux from "The Sleeping Beauty," that truly stole my heart. The dancers, oh my, their artistry was phenomenal. I was utterly mesmerized! The passion, the grace, the sheer power in their movements, I simply couldn't help but be enthralled. I'm already daydreaming about seeing it again.

And Prague itself, the city's character played such an integral role in this theatrical journey. Its architecture, the sheer beauty of the old town, and the vibrant energy emanating from the heart of the city all seemed to contribute to the spectacle unfolding before me. It's a truly inspiring city!

I discovered a hidden treasure, a charming ballet school tucked away in a quaint courtyard. Its small studio was brimming with the spirit of dance, with ballet slippers strewn across the floor and mirrors reflecting the movements of budding ballerinas.

Even their ballet uniform, a beautiful combination of lavender and soft pink, caught my eye! Now, where did I get this fascination for colour?

I peeked through the window, mesmerized by their passion and their elegance. In a flash, I felt the irresistible urge to join them, just for a quick pirouette.

But the allure of Prague's historical streets called to me once again, a symphony of history and charm echoing through the narrow cobblestone alleys.

I explored the Charles Bridge, gazing at the imposing gothic architecture of the Prague Castle as the setting sun bathed the city in golden hues. I stumbled upon charming cafes, where I enjoyed the traditional Czech delicacy, “trdelník," with its delicious sweet glaze. And, of course, every single moment of this journey was immortalized through the lens of my camera!

I want to share some tips for travelling through Prague. Firstly, be prepared for an explosion of colour and a sensory overload. From the ornate interiors of churches and museums to the vibrant street art that adorns every corner, prepare to be wowed! And remember, Prague's history is rich and alive, evident in its charming architecture, the legacy of a time long passed. Let each alley, each bridge, each towering spire weave its own unique narrative.

Oh, and make sure you indulge in the local delights. Be prepared to fall in love with those charming cafes, sample a wide variety of delectable sweets, and allow yourself to become absorbed in the vibrant street markets bursting with treasures both modern and antique.

Finding My Inspiration

Prague inspired me in ways I hadn't anticipated. I see the city as a reflection of my love for dance: a vibrant stage with stunning backdrops and a myriad of performances awaiting their time in the spotlight.

In Prague, I truly felt the spirit of freedom. This is the energy that radiates from each corner of the city, and this is the same freedom that the dance offers us, allowing us to move freely, to embrace the beauty of movement, and to let our emotions dance upon the stage.
