Prague Pretty: A Pink Tutu Adventure (Post 409)

Wednesday, 26th February 2003

Hello my lovely readers! Emma here, ready to take you on a whirl through Prague in all its enchanting glory, wearing a fluffy, cloud-soft pink tutu, of course!

As you all know, the aim of the Pink Tutu blog is to inspire you all to don a tutu, any tutu, and live life with a bit of playful sparkle! This week, I'm channelling my inner ballerina princess, bringing you the latest in Parisian chic fashion, dazzling Czech Ballet experiences and a smidge of history, sprinkled with a dash of fairytale magic. All from the heart of this extraordinary city!

Now, before we get caught up in the excitement of Prague's vibrant energy, let's take a moment to admire this incredible vintage masterpiece, my current favourite, a confection of gossamer pink tulle and delicate lace - perfect for twirling around Prague's enchanting Old Town Square!

I acquired this glorious creation at a vintage shop in Derbyshire, the owner a quirky, artistic woman who immediately recognised my pink tutu passion. Imagine a dusty attic full of forgotten fabrics and fantastical frills. That's where I found my treasure - and yes, the scent of faded perfume still lingers in the layers of silk. It's like stepping into a time capsule of glamorous ballet dancers.

Speaking of glamorous, have you been following the fabulous designs that have been flooding the fashion world? This spring is all about soft pastels, shimmering silks and exquisite textures - an ode to ballet and the elegant spirit of dance! Just look at Chanel's collection! It's a symphony of light, flowing skirts and playful sequins! Imagine, darling, all of you with little Chanelesque outfits under a gorgeous pink tutu - it would be utterly divine!

But I'm getting ahead of myself! Prague is beckoning, whispering tales of enchanting architecture, charming cobbled streets and, of course, its own breathtaking ballet scene.

From Derby to Prague, via Steam and Steam... and Horses!

Now, getting to Prague has been a bit of a fairy tale adventure itself. This week, instead of the usual train journey, I decided on a little scenic twist! First, a steam train adventure straight out of a childhood dream. Picture yourself tucked into a carriage with polished wood panels and vintage plush seating. Imagine the clattering rhythm of wheels on the tracks, the chugging of the engine and the whistle's shrill song. It felt magical.

But my journey didn't stop there! Arriving in Vienna, I swapped the iron horse for a four-legged steed. Now, imagine a graceful dappled mare with a gleaming chestnut coat, patiently waiting for its rider! A thrilling and whimsical ride through Austria's rolling hills took me to the heart of Prague, right into the heart of the ballet world.

A Ballet Night in Prague

Of course, I had to experience the Prague Ballet - one of the world's most renowned and elegant. Tonight's show, a whimsical adaptation of “The Nutcracker” at the National Theatre, filled me with a joyful sense of childlike wonder.

Imagine an ethereal winter wonderland, complete with snowflakes drifting across the stage, sugarplum fairies twirling in dreamy elegance, and a grumpy yet charming Nutcracker prince! I'd be lying if I didn't confess to shedding a tear at the beauty of the choreography and the exquisite talent of the dancers.

One dancer, a vision of grace named Helena, danced like a ballerina straight out of my dreams. I could feel her passion and precision through every move. I watched her performance spellbound, a shimmering pink cloud in my heart! I simply had to say hello afterwards. Helena, bless her heart, shared a little about her life as a ballerina - all about rigorous training and relentless practice, but ultimately, the passion of dance that kept her striving for excellence. This passion, dear reader, is what makes every twirl so magical!

I wish I could bring the stage and every single dancer straight back to my blog. Just imagine the magic! You wouldn't need a ballet tutu for a while because you would have to wear it at all times to hold the magic of the performance!

Speaking of magic, I think my next step has to be visiting the National Ballet Library of Prague. Imagine shelves upon shelves, overflowing with vintage ballet history - costumes, shoes, dance notes and sketches - a treasure trove waiting to be discovered! My next post will feature some of my discoveries and hopefully, a sneak peek at my vintage tutu collection - an inspiration to you all! Don't forget, darlings, to share your own pink tutu stories. I'd love to hear what sparks your joy!

Remember, you too can embrace your inner ballerina princess, whether you're twirling in a soft pink tutu on the streets of Prague or stepping into a local dance class!

See you next week for more Pink Tutu Adventures!

Love,

Emma xoxo
