Prague: Where Dreams Come True...and Pink Tutus Take Flight!

#413 - Wednesday 26th March 2003

Bonjour mes chères ballerinas! I hope you're all doing a grand jeté into the week in style! 🩰✨ This week, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-adoring blogger is beaming from Prague, the beautiful Czech city that has captured my heart (and my wardrobe!)

Remember that dream I had a while back about travelling the world and inspiring everyone to embrace the gloriousness of a pink tutu? Well, I'm well on my way! This whole travel-by-ballet-performance thing is proving to be the perfect life plan. After dazzling them all at a fundraising gala in the Derbyshire Dales last weekend (the village hall had never seen so much pink!), I found myself here, in the heart of Europe, a hop, skip, and a train ride away!

Prague: A Fairy Tale Come True!

I confess, when I arrived in Prague on Monday, I thought I'd stumbled into a fairytale. The cobblestone streets, the colourful buildings, the smell of fresh bread...and the history! Every corner I turned felt like a scene from a storybook. It's like a princess went shopping in an antique store, but instead of buying trinkets, she designed a whole city! 😍

The very first thing I did was wander into a quaint little shop called "Tutú Vlasty". Don't even ask how I found it, it just appeared on my radar, as though guided by the magical hand of a ballerina goddess! Inside, I was greeted by the sweetest woman, who spoke broken English but her enthusiasm for all things tutus could be understood in any language! She showed me the most exquisite selection of fabrics - from silken taffetas to softest velvets - all waiting to be transformed into a masterpiece. This is definitely not a shop for your average ballet student, but a true haven for the ballerina connoisseur, and for yours truly, it's pure magic. 💫

A Pink Ballet Adventure!

Of course, no visit to Prague would be complete without experiencing the incredible ballet scene. This evening, I am attending a performance at the famed National Theatre. I hear it's the "most magnificent ballet in Prague". Honestly, it would be a crime not to witness this extraordinary spectacle. It's also just the kind of magical atmosphere I need to brainstorm some tutu-licious ideas for my upcoming blog posts (hint: think vintage, bespoke, and breathtaking!) 🤫

From Ballerina to Tourist (But Still Pink!)

Between the breathtaking ballet performances and my totally obligatory visit to Tutú Vlasty, I've been exploring Prague like a proper tourist.

I have climbed the iconic Prague Castle (it was worth the long staircase!) and taken in the views from the Charles Bridge, soaking up the atmosphere. The old city is brimming with energy, with street performers, quirky little shops and charming cafes hidden away in the winding alleys. Speaking of cafes, I can't wait to share with you the incredible káva I had this morning (that's Czech for coffee!) The coffee was so strong, it was almost enough to give me a pirouette on the spot!

I've also discovered Prague is a fashion haven. So much to choose from, but of course, it was a pink tutu for me! It was love at first sight. Made of the most exquisite fabric (the shop owner said it was made of silk moth cocoons, no joke!) with feathers and diamantes that twinkled even in the Prague sunshine! And get this - it came with its own bespoke pink satin ballerina bag (for all my little ballet essentials, duh!)

Living The Pink Tutu Dream!

Right now, I'm back at my hotel, where I am writing to you all in the heart of the most incredible hotel room, overlooking a picture postcard cobblestone square! (Honestly, if I could take the view home with me, I would!) Tonight, however, my eyes are fixed on that ballet performance at the National Theatre. And maybe I'll do a little "ballet spotting" in the theatre afterwards (because, hey, what else am I gonna do?) 😉

I'll be back with all the latest ballet news from Prague in next week's blog! Don't forget to tune in!

Love, Emma

P.S. Just saw a local shop selling a little knitted "pink tutu pony!" Can you believe it? A pink tutu-clad horse! You bet I bought it! I think it’s going to be my new fashion accessory, but it is going to be hard choosing between my handbag and my hair! 🐴🌸
