Pink Tutu Prague - Post 423 - 04.06.2003
Bonjour, darlings! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu gal, here with another travel tale from the enchanting city of Prague! Today marks another wonderful Wednesday, and as usual, my blog is bursting with pink tutu magic. This week, I've been embracing the city's history and its hidden gems.
I must confess, my love for tutus began young. Growing up in Derbyshire, with rolling green hills and quaint village fairs, it was always ballet that ignited my soul. Those first, clumsy pirouettes, the elegant leaps, and the beautiful stories that danced in front of me – I was captivated. And the costumes? Pure magic! That first pink tulle tutu, a vibrant cloud of fabric – I've been hooked ever since.
So, imagine my joy when, last week, I took the train to Prague, leaving the English drizzle behind and stepping into a land where cobbled streets, majestic architecture, and enchanting tales from centuries past swirl around you. Oh, and let's not forget the shopping – I discovered a tiny boutique nestled amongst the charming backstreets, filled with exquisite antique tutus. It's going straight on my ‘pink tutu to-do’ list!
You see, I don't just dream of a world where everyone wears pink tutus – it's a mission! A delightful dance, a joyful explosion of colour, a reminder that every day can be an adventure. And Prague, with its history of stunning opera, ballets, and a thriving art scene, felt like the perfect place to spread the pink tutu message.
On a chilly, clear Prague morning, I embarked on my first pink tutu adventure – a visit to the magnificent Prague State Opera. The sheer grandeur of the building, with its ornate facade and grand staircase, made my heart soar. Stepping inside, it was like entering another world, a world of red velvet seats, intricate chandeliers, and, of course, that magnificent stage, ready for the magical stories to unfold.
Today’s treat? A matinee of Tchaikovsky’s "Swan Lake", a timeless ballet masterpiece that had me utterly captivated. The sheer talent of the dancers, the graceful movements, the captivating costumes – it was a visual and emotional feast. I even snagged a front row seat! As I looked out at the beautifully adorned audience, I couldn't help but wish they too were sporting a pink tutu! Imagine the sheer joy and whimsical charm!
My travels aren’t just about pink tutus, darling – although, they often are – it’s also about absorbing the vibrant energy of new places, discovering hidden beauty, and sharing those magical experiences with all of you.
So, after the exhilarating "Swan Lake," I found myself in the charming, atmospheric surroundings of Café Louvre. Indulging in a delectable cappuccino, I sat down and sketched. This is my favourite thing to do in the late afternoon - just a quick sketch or two capturing my surroundings. For example, today, I was inspired by the charming architecture and a friendly group of Prague students playing chess on a beautiful vintage board. Their enthusiasm reminded me of my first forays into the ballet world, filled with playful giggles and innocent joy.
I also learned so much about Prague's rich ballet history – did you know, for example, that it was one of the first cities in Europe to have a professional ballet company? And, let's not forget the city's illustrious theatre heritage, which dates back to the 13th century! Every building tells a story – that's why I can't resist capturing my experiences with little doodles and sketches. I plan to use these sketches for a painting project in the next few weeks.
The day is drawing to a close here in Prague, and my little heart is full of delightful memories. I am off to a late dinner at a small traditional restaurant, followed by some serious souvenir shopping! You can bet I will find a couple more unique pieces for my pink tutu collection - perhaps a Czech crystal or porcelain doll, or maybe a tiny ceramic ballet shoe! There are many little shops hidden amongst the maze of medieval streets in Prague!
Speaking of tutus, a friend has invited me to a delightful, intimate gathering, called a “Tutu Tea Party” this Saturday. A gathering of dance enthusiasts and ballet lovers from around the world! This promises to be an enchanting occasion, and a wonderful chance to spread my pink tutu message further!
Remember, my loves, every day is an adventure, and every life is a dance. Don't be afraid to twirl, to jump, to embrace the joy! And who knows? Perhaps the next time you see me, I’ll be wearing a gorgeous pink tutu right here in the streets of Prague! Until next time, darlings.
