Prague, Darling! Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Thousand Spires - Post #436

Wednesday, 3rd September 2003

Bonjour mes chéries!

It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, and today I’m whisking you away to the magical city of Prague! As a girl who can't get enough of history and fairytale charm, I knew this place was right up my alley. And guess what? It truly surpassed all expectations, which is saying something because my expectations are always very, very high!

Now, let’s talk logistics. As a tutu-clad traveller, I tend to prefer the leisurely pace of train journeys. After all, a journey is part of the adventure! It's a chance to truly immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of a new place. This week, the journey was even more magical because I travelled on the overnight train, the train carriage resembling a luxurious boudoir, adorned with opulent crimson velvet seating and intricately patterned curtains. Pure indulgence, I tell you!

The train took me through rolling countryside bathed in the glow of sunrise, past charming villages with their storybook houses and thatched roofs. I had a little travelling companion, a delightful chestnut mare named Pip, who came along for the journey. You've got to see her, she's absolutely gorgeous! And such a good girl. Her glossy brown coat shimmered in the light, her long mane flowing in the breeze like a waterfall of silk. Pip was even patient enough to allow me to drape a pretty pink ribbon on her braided mane, just for the sake of my fashion sense, of course. 😉

Arriving in Prague felt like stepping into a fairytale, with the ancient buildings towering above, the cobbled streets echoing with the clatter of horse-drawn carriages, and the vibrant life swirling around me like a ballerina's pirouette. The very air crackled with energy and magic!

But the highlight of my Prague escapade was most definitely the Prague National Theatre! This architectural wonder is breathtaking, a celebration of Bohemian style. I swear, I could feel the history pulsing within its walls as I entered. The intricate decor, the velvet-lined seats, the breathtaking frescoed ceiling, the stage… everything whispered tales of forgotten performers and enchanted nights. It's a place that inspires a sense of wonder, doesn't it?

The performance was a true masterpiece of grace and artistry, the ballet "Giselle" performed by the Prague National Theatre Ballet. My favourite scene was Giselle’s mad scene - her frantic dancing with ghostly precision made me hold my breath in awe. The way they made me feel for the characters was amazing!

Oh, and let's talk tutus! Prague’s ballet tradition is strong, with beautiful tutus of all shapes and sizes gracing the stage. From the classical Romantic tutus of "Giselle" to the grand, layered tutus of the "Swan Lake," the dancers seemed to effortlessly float, each pirouette and arabesque echoing the city's magic. It’s fair to say my little pink heart was skipping a beat.

As any ballerina worth her pointe shoes knows, a trip to a new city wouldn't be complete without some retail therapy. The shopping in Prague is absolutely sensational, from chic boutiques to vintage treasure troves, every corner holds a stylish discovery. I fell in love with a gorgeous pink satin tutu that would be perfect for a performance. Oh, I can already picture it. A pink cloud swirling under the glittering chandeliers of the Prague National Theatre. It was an absolute necessity, of course, but hey, a girl's gotta have her pink!

The ballet scene here is buzzing with energy. Prague has a unique dance scene, a beautiful blend of traditional ballets and contemporary styles, and every night there's a plethora of performances and rehearsals. I even took a ballet class here, which was exhilarating. I joined the local ballet studio in the heart of Prague, a hidden gem tucked away on a quiet cobbled street. My teacher, a charming older ballerina, had a vibrant energy that immediately sparked my own inner passion for dancing.

After the class, we popped into a charming little café nestled amongst the bustling markets for some delicious Czech cake, perfect fuel after a long, lovely day of ballet. Talking of treats, I've tried a Czech delicacy called "Trdelník," which is essentially a sugared pastry baked around a metal rod over hot coals, I must say, it’s quite delicious. Just imagine, sugary, cinnamon goodness in a golden, crispy tube. Perfection.

Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without exploring the beauty of the city itself!

The iconic Charles Bridge was a dream to walk across. The views from the bridge were incredible, overlooking the charming terracotta roofs, majestic churches, and the glistening waters of the Vltava river, sparkling in the sunlight.

There was so much more to explore. The Prague Castle was a stunning fortress, a testament to the city's rich history, full of enchanting courtyards and regal chambers. I even saw the magnificent Golden Lane with its quaint houses, each a little gem brimming with stories waiting to be discovered.

There were so many hidden cafes, cozy courtyards, and captivating art galleries just waiting to be explored, so I plan to linger in this magical city for a little longer.

My dear followers, Prague is a place to be savoured, every nook and cranny revealing hidden delights.

Before I sign off, here’s a tip for my darling pink tutu loving readers. Dress to impress, my dears! Embrace the colours and textures of the city! Wear a vibrant dress or a floral skirt, don your favourite pink tutu, maybe a pair of quirky shoes or a touch of bright jewellery, and let your style bloom amongst the beautiful streets of Prague!

I promise you, this will be the beginning of your Prague fairytale!

Until next Wednesday,

Much love, Emma xoxo
