Post #460: Pink Tutu Prague - Ballet, History & a Horse Drawn Carriage!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu wearing ballerina, back with another installment of my fabulous travelogue! Today we're in Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires, a city steeped in history and utterly charming, like a fairytale sprung to life. This week, on www.pink-tutu.com , we’re focusing on ballet and all its lovely delights.

As you know, I simply adore a ballet performance. And Prague, darling, is brimming with them! From the National Theatre to the Staatsoper , it’s a haven for ballet lovers, and today’s blog is about a little gem of a show that's tucked away in the heart of this incredible city, just a short stroll from the Old Town Square.

My journey here was, as always, a joy. Starting from my little village in Derbyshire, England, it's a beautiful trip. The countryside unfolds as I board the train. This time, though, I decided on a special little treat. A carriage pulled by two majestic white horses took me from the station into the very heart of Prague. I do love a bit of glamour!

History and tutus…what a pairing!

Of course, when in Prague, it would be rude not to visit the iconic Charles Bridge. And, let me tell you, it truly lives up to the hype! The stunning architecture, the cobbled pathway, and the views – pure magic!

Speaking of magic, this trip has sparked a passion for Czech ballet history. I had no idea Prague has a such a rich, colorful heritage, especially when it comes to tutus! It’s all thanks to the Czech National Ballet company, founded in 1945, that they became renowned for their contemporary approach to dance, blending traditional techniques with modern flair. It's truly captivating, and you'd be surprised to learn how fashion and trends of 1920s and 1930s in Prague were mirrored by what ballerinas were wearing!

*My perfect evening at The Estates Theatre! *

The Estates Theatre is a little piece of heaven nestled amidst Prague's maze of charming alleyways. It's not just beautiful to look at, with its stunning architectural features, it boasts an exceptional history too, with a story that spans over two hundred years. A true theatrical treasure!

Tonight, the program featured a beautiful mix of pieces: a classical masterpiece, "The Nutcracker", and a more modern work. “Sleeping Beauty" is so magical – a stunning spectacle of beauty and skill! Each movement flowed effortlessly, every twirl and pirouette was perfectly executed, it was a symphony of color, music and movement!

I am still so inspired! The beautiful set designs, the talented dancers, and the evocative music. I spent the entire evening captivated. Even as the last note faded away, I couldn't resist lingering in the theatre for a little while, letting the ambiance wash over me.

And, wouldn’t you know it, during the intermission, the most amazing thing happened: a ballet enthusiast spotted me wearing my custom pink tutu! It's so lovely to find kindred spirits while travelling! She was thrilled to know I had come all the way from Derbyshire to witness this particular performance, and we ended up discussing the history of tutus and the evolution of ballet styles, both very near and dear to my heart!

*A city brimming with glamour and sparkle! *

My evening continued with a delicious dinner, which I followed up with some rather delightful window shopping! I absolutely adore Prague's mix of high-end boutiques and charming little shops, and found myself completely captivated by their beautifully curated displays.

Of course, no visit to Prague would be complete without indulging in a cup of the city's famous “trdelník" – a sweet, cinnamon pastry, warm and comforting – a perfect way to round off my enchanting evening!

I truly hope this inspires you, my lovelies, to venture into Prague’s cultural world. It is truly captivating. I simply adore this enchanting city, and know I'll be back for more.

I’ll leave you all with this lovely quote that I discovered while strolling the beautiful streets:

*"Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer" *

And I'll add this little snippet of advice for all you wonderful readers: If you’re a ballet enthusiast, do yourself a favor and head to Prague – you'll be spoilt for choice!

And always, my sweet readers, remember to twirl, twirl, twirl!

Until next week, and next week’s exciting adventure,

Much love,

Emma
