Pink Tutu Prague: Post #471

Wednesday 5th May 2004

Dearest Pink Tutu followers,

I hope you are all having a gloriously twirly week! I am positively giddy with excitement about my time in Prague, I mean, the architecture here is truly enchanting - all those fairytale turrets and cobblestone streets! The city has definitely got that je ne sais quoi...that je ne sais quoi that makes you want to put on your finest pink tutu and pirouette through the streets!

Train Travel and Pony Adventures

This week’s blog post is all about my journey to Prague and how my love for ballet has become interwoven with the city itself. Now, I wouldn't be true to my Pink Tutu style if I didn't tell you about the exciting mode of transport I chose for this trip! I hopped onto a train all the way from Derby - a real train enthusiast here! The rhythmic clinking of the wheels, the view of rolling green countryside, the occasional picnic of crumpets and clotted cream...pure magic!

Oh, and did I mention my pony? Well, technically, he’s not mine, but he’s a gorgeous chestnut fella called Chestnut who lives at the stables near my house, and we’ve become quite the pair. I love galloping through the Derbyshire lanes, the wind in my hair, and it gets me fit for all those balletic leaps and twirls! It’s definitely my favourite way to get in the mood for a big ballet performance. I was so excited to arrive in Prague, a city that's famous for its breathtaking ballet traditions.

Prague's Ballet Legacy and The Pink Tutu Love

The minute I set foot in Prague, I could practically hear the waltzes in the air, the rhythmic clip clop of ballerinas' shoes echoing on cobblestone pavements. Prague boasts a rich ballet history. Back in the 18th century, opera houses in Prague showcased ballets from Italy and France, and the city eventually became a focal point for European ballet.

The sheer beauty and intricate artistry of it all, from the flowing tutus to the breathtaking choreography, just makes me want to throw my arms open wide and twirl for hours on end! I mean, wouldn't it be glorious to dance in a dusty, cobweb-covered, gothic theatre amidst an audience of awed faces, clad in shimmering ball gowns, sipping fine wine? It's a ballet dream come true!

Speaking of tutus, let’s get real - it's been impossible for me to resist indulging in Prague's exquisite fashion scene! After my grand arrival, I headed straight for the boutiques, my trusty little notebook clutched in my hand. (I always write down my outfit ideas! ). And guess what I found? Oh, honey, you’ll just melt at the sight of it! A fabulous, voluminous, pink tulle tutu! So beautifully delicate and layered, just like the meringue clouds you find in your most beloved, decadent raspberry mousse cake (you've got to try the mousse here at a place called Café Sladkovský - absolute bliss!)

But I have a rule for tutus: always wear with confidence! So I did what I do best... a little bit of twirling in front of the mirror! That feeling, I tell you! This tutu is begging to be worn with an extravagant flourish at the Prague National Theatre…

Prague National Theatre: Ballet Magic on Stage

So, my dear followers, imagine my joy when I realised that a grand ballet performance was taking place this evening at the Prague National Theatre! I practically skipped (a ballet skip, of course) to the theatre! It’s a stunning venue with an elaborate facade, and when I entered the foyer, I was completely captivated.

My eyes lit up as I spotted the beautiful, elegant costumes, and I even had the pleasure of watching the ballet dancers warm up in the courtyard. It felt like stepping straight into a classic fairytale - a ballerina's fairytale! The atmosphere was simply electrifying and I felt the weight of the building's historical grandeur!

Ballet Perfection on the Prague Stage

Tonight's performance was Swan Lake, a classic piece by Tchaikovsky. The first notes of the orchestra had my heart pounding with excitement. I was particularly entranced by the beautiful Odette - the Swan Queen! The choreography was stunning, capturing the swan's elegance and grace with an exquisite delicacy. The performance took me on a breathtaking journey. The swans moved with fluid grace, their tutus like feathers catching the spotlight, the dancers as light and nimble as butterflies, their steps as light as a feather…

As for my future travels around Prague, well, you just know I’m going to keep my readers in the loop! From the ancient Castle district to the atmospheric streets of Old Town and the charming Charles Bridge... I'll be twirling through it all, soaking up the city's vibrant energy. Oh, and did I mention the delightful selection of coffee shops offering fragrant lattes? Who doesn’t love a little caffeine pick-me-up whilst planning out future outfits?!

Oh, and, I must share my favourite little discovery - this darling little café I found tucked away in the Old Town! It has this cute pink floral print wallpaper and the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted. Naturally, I had to have a twirl with my friends and post it on my Instagram - you’ll find it at #pinktutuontheroad!

Stay tuned next Wednesday for my next Prague post - and until then, keep on twirling!

With love,

Emma x
